1 Million & More Stretch Goals!

Well, well, well. We went and made the audacious decision to go to sleep, and you lot smashed through all of our stretch goals! We can’t take our eyes off you for a minute, can we?

Now that we've raised an incredible £1 million ($1.5m!), Yooka-Laylee will be released day-on on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One and Wii U!

Obviously we would like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone who has backed the project so far. Our intention from the beginning was to use Kickstarter as a means to improve Yooka-Laylee, and you’ve helped us shape it into one fine specimen.

But we’ve not run out of ideas yet! Backers can be assured that the Playtonic team will deliver a complete and satisfying game package. However, given the opportunity and additional resources required, we have a list of additional ‘dream’ extras we’d love to incorporate.

How about a developer commentary video? N64 shader mode? Hell, we’ll even get Grant Kirkhope to record a new ‘DK Rap’ for the endgame credits.

Any extra money will of course go towards improving the game. Below are the extra features we’ll be able to fulfill by reaching new stretch funding goals:

Tom, Salvatore Iuzzolini, and 500 more people like this update.

Just a quick question, I'm really excited for the co-op multiplayer. Will there be an online multiplayer that is cross platform? so PC players can play online with a playstation player?

      Here, here, here we go
So they're finally here performing for you,
If you know the words you can join in too.
Put your hands together if you want to clap,
As we take you through this trio rap.
      Huh
      Y.K. Yooka-Layle.
They are an interesting pair, you'll know them well,
They are finally here, to kick some tail.
With Yooka's camoflage, and Laylee dishing out dirt,
If they hit ya, it's gunna hurt.
They are awesome, funny, and unique too,
They are the first members of the Playtonic Crew
      Huh
      Y.L. Yooka-Laylee

@Luuk Ros Because sometimes backing isn't about getting a good deal, it's about supporting someone's passion project, and those someones happen to be some of the key developers behind my personal favorite n64 era game, Banjo-Kazooie. When it released, I was 10 years old, and Rare helped incredible childhood memories form. If I can help them do that again for others, well, that's the only reward that I need.

    7. Elliott Jeffrey on May 3, 2015

That is a really, really unfortunate thumb crop for both of those stretch goals...

As excited as I am about this, I have misgivings about any project that gains so much money so quickly. I trust the devs to do the best job they can, and even though I know more money does *not* equal a better game, I'm afraid backer expectations (including my own) will be unrealistically inflated because the project is so well-funded and staffed.

I know it's going to be good, I just hope I don't ruin it for myself.

    9. Luuk Ros on May 3, 2015

Can someone tell me why it is worth backing this game? I mean we all know ID@xbox games range between 15-25$ so basically there is not much of a reward, just pre-ordering the game way way early... For around 24$. Also make a stretch goal to get an earlier release dat :) October 2016 is so far away! More money more people faster product finishing? Cheers

I would love to see more levels in the game! I want the game itself to have as many levels as possible. Maybe a higher stretch goal could be to have 10 or so levels, much like the Banjo games.

    12. James Thompson on May 3, 2015

      @Peredur
They're probably working right now, trying to put together plans and figures for new stretch goals. They don't have a PR rep (something I think more Kickstarters should invest in) so the people who keep up with the Kickstarter are the same people trying to keep up with questions and development. They'll likely being trying to put together some of the work they're doing to show off later in the Kickstarter too to get the late funding goals.

Seconded to Shaun's comment. I'd love to see the devs do a lets play of their older games. To the people wanting more game content, well, be careful what you wish for. Feature creep is a very real thing when it comes to game design, especially with Kickstarters, where the money goes up and up, and the devs promise more and more until suddenly the game is enormously large, and they still only have the same amount of developers (or only one or two extra) to work on it all. It's a very big worry I have with Star Citizen at the moment.

That said, these guys are industry veterans (I personally would go as far as to say legends), so I trust their judgement on this.

I'm just happy that this exists.

Wow, both stretch goals hit already! Congrats guys, well deserved.

If there were another set, I'd love to see a stretch goal for the team to make little lets plays of their old games, kinda like Chris Seavor's Conker videos or Double Fine's "Devs Play" series.

Is there anyone from the studio following the KS campaign? There are too few updates. Last update was for 1M. There were none for 1.1M and 1.2M. The image for 1.1M is updated but it is all. I know the campaign goes faster than anticipated. But you should really show more presence. The way it is, it does look like no one is following its evolution. Not a conforting image. :/

    17. Ruben Estrada on May 3, 2015

@ Gabriel W Coleman... What does that even mean? Do you mean a "secret" world? If that's the case, I don't care whether or not there will be any more worlds. I'll take quality over quantity any day. And if Playtonic thinks that 5 worlds is enough, so be it. Also, please don't spam just to get noticed. And no one's going to make a whole other world for 20 more dollars. LOL

    18. André Neumann on May 3, 2015

    20. DeafTard on May 3, 2015

I am so glad that I backed this game because this is the type of team thst totally deserves my pledge. Most of all, this Yooka-Laylee game looks absolutely fabulous and awesome at the same time! Also, it can be rare to find an honest team that is working on a video game project for KS since there has been ALOT of shady KS projects that should of never been funded.

Keep up the good work playtonic games!!!

    21. Chris Taylor on May 3, 2015

I am astounded at how successful this has been. But do you know what I think would make it even better? To see the game physically, nice and shiny on the shelves of game stores all over the world, with a disc and manual inside. To be able to look at it on your own shelf in your own collection.
Yes, I support physical copies for every platform.
Again, congrats go to Playtonic Games for a truly spectacular 'Rare-vival'.

    23. Amanda R on May 3, 2015

That commentary video sounds awesome. Not sure what you could come up with for other stretch goals, but I got a couple ideas from reading others' comments:
      - Money set aside for proper marketing at release (I'd love to see the game brought to the attention of a wider audience).
      - Extra worlds/content, even if they were released later as DLC to avoid pushing back the release date.
      - Possible amiibo support for the wii u version.

    24. John Tulloch on May 3, 2015

How about secret "cheats" aka button combinations like in the old N64 games like Tony Hawk Pro Skater and such? Nothing game breaking, but like Big Head Mode, or Moon Jumping lol. (A, B, Up, Up, Down, B, Right)

    25. Jeff Pearce on May 3, 2015

How about some cameos or cheats for additional characters? Would love to see some old-school Rare love, some of the Pinatas even would be cool.

@robert camargo - I'd love to see an appearance by donkey and Diddy Kong on wii u version too. Xbox one can have banjo and kazooie and ps4 can have ratchet and clank.

The stretch goals now are things a lot of people won't use. I'd really just like more content (levels, NPCs, bosses); really flesh out the core game to the max!

    35. Aaron Greenbaum on May 2, 2015

At the rate things are going, you're going to have to include something like a second video game as a stretch goal.

    36. Anna on May 2, 2015

Would love a Vita and 3DS version

    37. Luke Henke on May 2, 2015

If I can make a suggestion, I would like a hub area/hideout that you can customize and upgrade with spare play tonic coins (or whatever you call them). PS I'm loving the two preview songs, keep up the good work!

The Cameo is a good idea but I would want it to be the same cameo across all systems. I think we are at a period where game companies are less worried about how to beat their competition and more about everyone being successful. I'm sure Nintendo and Microsoft could come to an agreement but I'm not 100% sure about Sony.

Bring in a character / enemy roll call a la the DKC series! :)

    44. Saul James Ebanks on May 2, 2015

      Suggestions:

      -Physical console release
-Special outfits for completing special missions (only like 3 outfits, e.g shorts, funny hats etc.)
-Cheat codes (e.g Big head mode, Alternate skins) For old school nostalgia.

    45. JDEzekude on May 2, 2015

An Y.L. Rap!? How intriguing! I'm already imagining a few lines like "You can do it, Yooka-Laylee!" or "Go, go, Yooka-Laylee! Go, Yooka-Laylee, go!" But those are just my ideas.

If I have any more ideas, I might consider writing a full set of lyrics. I'm an author after all, and I would be happy to help in any way possible.

    46. Thomas Rogers on May 2, 2015

How about a stretch goal where you double the team size and get the game out sooner? My concern is the more content you add the longer it will all take. Getting the game sooner seems like a good reason to push for more money. Thanks.
