Orboot: The Educational, Augmented Reality Globe (AR Globe)

Orboot is a 10” globe that highlights every country in the world. To use Orboot, scan the globe with a smartphone or tablet using the Orboot App and enjoy your journey around the world!
Orboot engages kids in a way they can relate to every story, and ignite their imagination to make each adventure their own! Orboot is a factual and creative representation of the world. It has culminated from a wealth of research and representation to give an experience that will help the young minds grow.
Orboot covers extensive details spanning culture, inventions, monuments, natural wonders, map, weather and cuisine for all the countries of the world! It has hundreds of detailed 3D models, amazing voiceovers and local flavors of music, giving an immersive experience to both kids and adults
Orboot comes with great audio stories!
Each highlight on the globe has its own story to tell. The stories are exciting and vivacious. Between the lines, the stories contain basic educational information, facts and figures from around the world. The festive cultural story below should give you an idea!
A child’s mind is incredibly flexible and absorbs the world around them. They need the right tools during the developmental years of life! Which is why, we ensured that S.T.E.A.M. was an integral part of our educational approach to kids’ playtime.
Other than hundreds of amazing 3D visualizations across 8 categories, kids also enjoy a variety of mini-games, puzzles and quizzes. Here's a glimpse:
Shifu's journey started in early 2016 and it has been an amazing ride since then! We are determined to make it even more awesome in 2017!
The Idea - In our childhood, we always had difficulty in visualizing the Earth with its many countries, states and borders. We thought, why not simplify it for the young ones! Combining it with the love for travel, the team built on the idea of ‘Around the World’.
Research - Our next challenge was to give an immersive experience to the kids and make the screen time good! Hence, started our in-depth research about the world, country by country and culture by culture.
Design - Imagining these amazing highlights in 2D from around the world and pinning them accurately on the map to make it visually appealing to kids became our top priority.
The App - The experience had to be enriching, engaging and interactive. We know the value of every word spoken and every visual shown to kids. The animators took up the task of creating a detailed 3D model for every highlight and achieving the task of animating them on the sphere successfully. The coders made sure we had a supreme performance on all kinds of iOS and Android devices.
Manufacturing - Leaf by leaf we got it all together! After zeroing in on the ideal size, the quality and the graphics, began the making of Orboot globe. The method of making the final globe was laborious and required a lot of precision. After all, it has to be made with love!
Parents, homeschoolers, teachers and innovators - we need you!
We have done a lot of work already but want an inspiring community of parents, homeschoolers and teachers to make Orboot even better. And this is where you come in! The money we will raise through Kickstarter will be used to:
Manufacture 500 beautiful Shifu globes to make it affordable for you
Research extensively for unknown cultures, traditions and hidden treasures around the globe
Hire professional voiceover artists to give exclusive and engaging stories to your kids
Add more activities and puzzles in the App to make it engaging and interactive
Vivek Goyal & Dinesh Advani are batchmates from IIT Kharagpur and worked at Procter & Gamble together too. Vivek went ahead to pursue an MBA from Stanford GSB and found his passion in building products in the domain of local commerce and mobile apps. Dinesh has more than 10 years of expertise in the field of business planning and development, manufacturing and logistics!
Both are tech enthusiasts at heart and awesome parents pursuing their passion through Shifu. They pulled together a passionate team of early learning experts, innovators and technologists that fit together like puzzle pieces. Their aim is to make every experience exciting and meaningful for kids and strive to give the best!
Risques et défis
Everything needed to kick off the manufacturing process is complete. Great care has been taken to finalize the supplier. The design and prototyping is done and all materials are in place. It’s just a matter of giving the factory the green light.
The technology side is sorted as we specialize in creating AR games and have launched 7 AR-enabled games. Post funding, plan is to create an awesome child-friendly AR app and hundreds of beautiful, high quality models/animations across 8 features described.
We are confident of delivering Orboot on time. Having said that, there are always some uncertainties and risks associated with any project. Our team has been-there-done-that and we are ready with mitigation plans and back-ups.
