Hourglass is an atmospheric first-person puzzle adventure inspired by Portal, The Witness, and Rime where you have to cooperate with yourself to solve difficult puzzles, explore a foreign world and unveil the big secret of ancient egypt.
Besides offering an ancient world to explore, Hourglass is mostly about solving various puzzles with a unique core-mechanic.
Your ability allows you to record your actings for a certain amount of time. After that, time winds back to the beginning of the recording and a copy of yourself appears, repeating the actions.
On your adventure, you will have to use this ability in creative ways to get through various areas filled with difficult puzzles.
"Pyramids are the tombs of the pharaohs". This is what most people believe. But more and more studies raise doubts about this thesis. Scientists found indications for ancient egypt being far more technologized than we can imagine.
Hourglass is set in a scenario in which those assumptions are actually true..
You will play as Aywa, a young adventurer who is travelling to Egypt to find her missing father - an archeologist, who never returned from his latest expedition.
Your journey leads you to a remote temple where you encounter undiscovered egyptian technologies and portals to a foreign world.
Only by unraveling the secrets of these long lost technologies, you are able to solve all puzzles on your quest and eventually find your father.
Although completing the Story itself might take you only about 4-5 hours, there is way more to explore. Completing 100% of the game will take you much longer. Generally speaking, the more funding we receive, the more puzzles, islands and content we are able to provide for you.
We have worked on Hourglass for the last 12 months (part time). We concepted and prototyped the main features of our game and we got great feedback. Now, we would love to work full time on Hourglass and bring this game to life.
Hourglass is currently planned to release on PC (Windows). We would love to port the game to Consoles if there is enough funding for it.
Hourglass will support gamepad and keyboard input and will release in English and German.
The game will be optimized for players with 21:9 monitors!
We are the Team behind this Project. Ben (left) worked for two years as a 3D Artist on Desperados 3 by Mimimi Games and THQ Nordic while Patrick (right) is mainly a Youtuber and Streamer and has worked on multiple simulations games like Bus-Simulator and Police Tactics by Astragon Entertainment.
A funding via Kickstarter allows us to develop the game independently. This is very important to us because we want to develop Hourglass together with the community. We would love to stay in constant dialogue with our supporters and hear about all your ideas and feedback for the game.
We need most of the money to pay our living costs.
Since we are only two people and we can´t do everything by ourselves, we will need a professional sound designer who provides us with atmospheric sounds and music and an animator who can create clean animations for our character/clone.
Risks and challenges
Game development always bears certain risks but we have already prototyped the main parts of Hourglass. Since this is not our first time developing a game, we already know about the upcoming challenges. We are very confident to be able to deliver the experience we promise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
