Meet the cast
About She's in London
Centred on a lesbian bar and its staff & patrons, She's in London, explores the theme of the gentrification of Soho and the closing of LGBT venues. With the iconic lesbian Lexington Club in San Francisco closing its doors recently, this theme resonates across cities and countries.
No good LBQ web series would be complete without sex, love, friendships and drama, and She's in London has this in spades. Theo, who works at the bar, find herself getting involved with Mel. Which would be fine, except that Mel is the ex of her best friend and flatmate, Sam. What neither Sam or Theo know is that Mel also works for the developer that's trying to close the bar. With all these secrets it's only a matter of time before trouble ensues.
NEW: Character bios
THEO - the happy-go-lucky, recently single, wannabe player lesbian bar worker, who’s trying to keep her life “uncomplicated”
SAM - Theo’s best mate, struggling to work out what and who she wants
MEL - Sam’s ex who is drawn to Theo’s uncomplicated ways and perhaps the wrong side of the fight to save the bar
JILL - Theo’s boss and the mother-hen, mama bear bar owner, leading the fight to save the bar
The talented cast will reflect the diversity that abounds in London's LBQ community. There are also a number of cameos from familiar faces including Out in South London's Rosie Wilby, Drag Idol 2014 Winner, LoUis CYfer and My Lesbian Radio Lesbian Lounge podcast host Denise Warner-Gregory.
The soundtrack will feature some of the brightest talent from LBQ musicians including MIRI and ME and Deboe.
Tello Films, renowned for producing and distributing authentic, innovative, high-quality web series with a lesbian focus will be distributing the series, and showcasing 'She’s in London' to their significant subscriber base across North America. The series will be shot in Soho, with one of the main locations being in a well known LGBT venue.
How can you help?
Making quality lesbian content costs money. We need your support to raise the necessary funds to film and edit She's in London, ready for release in September or October.
All funds raised will go directly into the production - camera, sound, lighting, wardrobe, props, hair and makeup, locations, music and a number of other areas.
Katie and Naomi Bennett Hall are the founders of Ultimate Planet, the umbrella organisation that has brought you the well known Planet London and Planet Brighton brands. The newest brand Planet M, a brand new production company, creating and supporting quality LBQ content out of the UK.
Planet M Productions was launched due to an increasing demand from LBQ women who want to see more realistic characters and storylines.
Kat Holmes, founder of Kat Life Films, is the Creative Producer of 'She's in London'. She brings to the production over ten years of experience in lesbian film production, and was the writer/producer of the Australian Lesbian Feature, 'Submerge' the recent hit at international LGBT film festivals and released globally in over 20 countries. (http://www.submergethemovie.com/#submerge)
Her mission is to produce films that challenge the viewer's perception of the world or themselves, through a compelling storyline, interesting and approachable characters, and dramatic action. Kat is an Australian native now making her home in London, and is a content lead for Planet M.
Stuart Dunlop, Director, is formerly Creative Director of Travel Channel International. Lemonwedge Productions is an all-in-one film production company working in both the creative and corporate fields to tell compelling stories.
Reaching the target of goal of £3,000 will enable the web series to go into production in June as planned. However we don't want to stop there. Here's what will happen if we exceed our target:
£4,000 - Will allow us to pay for the rights to use more top quality music from your favourite lesbian artists.
And of course the more we get the more we can do. The sky's the limit.
Our campaign video says we're looking to raise £2,500, however our target goal is officially £3,000. This is because we need to cover the Kickstarter and credit card processing fees.
Risks and challenges
The producers and director She's in London are experienced filmmakers.
Whilst making any film or TV projects is full of logistical and artistic challenges, we do not foresee there being any fundamental problems that would prevent us from completing the web series by the end of the summer, ready for release in autumn.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
