Meet the Creator
I am Luke Christie, and I am the original creator of Pixel Caps and all of our products. This may come as a shock, but I am actually just a 14 year old kid from Yorktown, Virginia. I have a lot in common with other kids my age, for instance, I play trumpet, baseball, and . . . go to school. I may have many similarities with other kids my age, but I am no ordinary kid. When I grow up I want to become an entrepreneur and make items that are not only fun, but also inventions that can help everyday life. Paul Christie, my dad, is helping me with this project since I am so young. Pixel Caps is only the beginning of the long road and many dreams ahead of me. So when you support Pixel Caps, you are not only helping the business, but you are also kick starting my life to the many ideas and dreams I have stored for the future.
What is Pixel Caps?
Pixel Caps is a product that uses various colors of bottle caps to make a picture. So far we have 3 different kits, and 4 unique designs for you to explore! With the Pixels Caps kit, you not only get to use and play with the designs, but you also get to make the entire backing board for the designs to go on. You can easily make a really cool design with a Pixel Caps kit. What I wanted to make special about these kits, was I wanted to make it so that you can switch designs at any time. The special magnets on the board allow all the bottle caps to hold on tight, but also come off with ease. Every single backing board is a massive 24" x 24", making it super big and large for size. Even though there are only certain specific designs we offer to you, you can still make whatever design your mind can think of with the supplies we give you.
From Idea to Project to Product
I came up with the idea to make pixel art out of bottle caps many months back. I had seen all the apps that allow you to make pixel art on your phone. What I wanted to do, was take that same concept from the phone, and make pixel art out of ordinary everyday objects. This idea turned into a project and I started to make sketches, take measurements, and buy supplies. My very first design I ever bought and made was the baseball design. At first I tried to make the design out of ordinary soda caps. I thought it would give the design a more vintage look, but all it did was make the full picture harder to see. The logos and multiple colors on each individual bottle cap was just too much. I eventually tried the same design with just pure colors and the outcome looked great. I thought up of some more designs and all of them looked great in the end as well. I think this is a really amazing product but need you to help support so I can buy better supplies, create more designs, and increase the quality of this product. If we can reach this goal, the story for Pixel Caps has only begun.
If we reach our goal on Kickstarter, we will make very little money. Our goal for this project is not to make a lot of money. We would just like to see our project become a success. That is why we are selling you this product at a price close to what we buy it for. Using Kickstarter, this journey will be a great experience to learn and grow our company to make better products for all of you. We think this is a really cool product and want it to get out in the hands of people all around the world. We would like to take this experience to grow our company, get more design ideas, and adapt our product. But we can only make this happen with your support.
Risks and challenges
The shipping on this item is very expensive because this product weighs almost 5 pounds. We have tried to lessen the weight of the item by making the board plastic or using thinner magnets. We found out that it just takes away from what a great product it is. This board is made out of real wood and all the bottle caps are the actual size, shape, and weight of a real bottle cap. So even though the shipping is going to be higher because of the weight, it will have better materials and will be a higher quality product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
