NEW STRETCH GOAL: $1,000
We are so excited to have met our funding goal with 2 weeks to go that we are adding a stretch goal. If we hit $1,000 we will be adding two additional Tube Tats sets (designs TBA) plus we will be giving backers at the $20 level and above an additional reward: a trouser strap! Months ago I created 3 fabric designs to accompany Tube Tats, and had them printed by Spoonflower. What better way to use that fabric than to keep backer's jeans from being eaten by bike chains?
Finally! Vinyl decals designed with bikes in mind.
When I went looking for a non-permanent way to add some pizazz to my bike I was sorely disappointed with what's currently on the market. With vinyl wall decals popping up in every imaginable style and everywhere from Etsy to big corporate stores, I had assumed that a smaller, more bike-friendly cousin must exist. Such was not the case.
I created Tube Tats to give people a way to personalize their bicycles without having to settle on one permanent design. I think of them as being like temporary tattoos: painless to apply and removable when you're ready to change up your style.
In a word, versatility. Tube Tats were designed with the idea that you should be able to put them anywhere you want, in any arrangement you want. Each pack contains "design elements" which are cut out individually. This allows you to create a gridded pattern OR spread them out randomly across your frame. Three of our designs also include a larger decal intended to be used as a head-badge.
Our most simple sets are "Pixels"and "Dots", which include 80 individual squares or circles in four colors. "Pixels" can be arranged to create stripes, 8-bit style images, or unique patterns. "Dots" is a fun multi-color approach to good old fashion polka-dots.
Walking by our neighborhood bike shop I often swoon over cruisers with intricately painted fenders. When the time came to buy a new bike, however, I decided on a solid color. Why? I was afraid that the design I love today might not be what I want in six months or a year. That thought played a big role not only in making Tube Tats removable, but in keeping them affordable. For the price of seeing a movie, you can peel off the old set and stick on a new style.
Pixel and Pint is a two-person graphic design team. David van Wert does web and print design for clients while I focus more on creating products, like graphic posters, for sale. In the past the only equipment we've needed are our computers and the printer down the street.
Tube Tats is a project I am very excited about, but producing them at a profession level requires either outsourcing, or bringing new machinery into the works. Having them produced by a larger scale company is expensive and would require us to order a minimum of 100 of each design set. Producing these decals in-house will allow us a higher level of control, make it possible to offer all 6 designs, and give us a chance to offer the option of customization.
We are bringing our project to the Kickstarter community in hopes of having enough orders to warrant purchasing a plotter/cutter. The particular model we are aiming to buy is surprisingly affordable, and highly capable of turning out a quality product. Additional costs include materials like specialized printable vinyl, a quality printer, ink, packaging, and postage.
Where Are We?
I have spent the last two months perfecting our designs. It was important to me to be able to offer decals with colorful, printed details rather than just plain silhouettes, and I think you will be pleased with our first sets. We created prototypes, tweaking the sizes and shapes of the decals so they could function as puzzle pieces of your own unique patterns. I tested materials on my 8 mile (often rainy) rides home from work. I have designed packaging and sourced materials. Everything is in place! All we need is you!
Our primary reward for backers is the product itself. With the exception of the $100 "Ultimate Custom" option, each reward level will allow you to choose from the following sets of Tube Tats. If we surpass our funding goal and reach the $1,500 mark we will add more designs for you to choose from! You will be given a survey at the end of the project (if it is successful) where you can specify your choices.
Reward Levels above $10 also include 1 of the following sets of buttons! You will be asked to specify your choice at the end of the project.
Breakdown of rewards:
$10 Level: Choose 1 set of Tube Tats ( One 5.5" x 8.5" sheet)
$15 Level: Receive 1 set of Custom Color "Pixels" or "Dots" + Choose 1 Set of Buttons. We will ask you to provide examples of up to 4 colors at the end of the project.
$20 Level: Choose 2 sets of Tube Tats AND 1 set of buttons!

You will be asked to provide examples or descriptions of 2 to 4 colors at the end of the project. **In order to keep things simple please allow us to choose what color goes where. We promise to make it look good!!!
As an example let's say that Sally has chosen the "Mix tape set" and has asked us to use the colors "Red Orange" "Bright Blue" and "Purple". Her custom design will contain elements like these:
$65 Level: Retailer Sample Pack. Ten Packs of Tube Tats (choose from the designs shown above) to sell in your bike shop or boutique! This is a perfect way to introduce Tube Tats to your customers.
$100 Level: Ultimate Custom: Support our project at the $100 level and you get the full Pixel and Pint experience. I will design a custom set of Tube Tats just for you!! Maybe you want to cover your bike with images of narwhals, or seagulls, or chocolate cookies...now you can! Includes consultation, custom illustration, and multiple drafts. You can choose up to three images for us to create and we will repeat them to fill a standard size Tube Tat sheet. You will receive 5 sheets of your custom design and we will keep your design on file in case you ever want more! During the customization process, communication can take place via email, phone, or video chat. Or, if you live in the Spokane area, you are welcome to meet with us in the Pixel and Pint studio to discuss your project!
Risks and challenges
The most time-consuming part of this project has been finished- that's creating the actual designs. Production will be easy once we have the equipment and materials we need, but as with any project there are potential hang ups.
Our custom color and custom design reward levels require time-consuming work here in the studio. These rewards may take more time to ship out, but you can help us out: We will be contacting you during the custom design process to get your color choices or ideas for custom designs. Your rewards cannot be made without this information! The "Ultimate Custom" reward will involve initial consultation and draft revision, and will require final approval before we print and cut your designs. So, the best way to assure you get your custom order as soon as possible is to respond to our questions in a timely fashion.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
