The Pixabay App takes the amazing images and functionality of the Pixabay website and creates an optimal experience for when you are on the go. Our 2 million+ members have been asking us for an app to make accessing and managing our 610k images and videos easier on mobile devices. And they are finally getting their wish!
What is Pixabay?
Pixabay is the premiere community for user-donated copyright and royalty free images that can be used by anyone without attribution. Started in 2010 by Hans Braxmeier and Simon Steinberger, Pixabay was created with the express purpose of making it easy for people to find high quality images that they could safely use in blogs, articles, or any other content without fear of copyright infringement and the associated fines. Beyond that, Pixabay creates a friendly atmosphere where photographers, both professionals and amateurs, can share their work with the rest of the world. We help our contributors receive feedback on their images and videos, and allow them to get well-deserved recognition from the Pixabay community.
Why a Kickstarter Project?
Using Kickstarter to fund this development allows us to keep our site ad-free and highly responsive to our users. It also allows us to offer special rewards to our contributors!
About the Product
Our Pixabay website does a great job of meeting the needs of desktop users, but let’s face it, some things are just better with an app:
Fast, comfortable searches and user-friendly navigation
Displaying search results in an easy-to-use slideshow format
Optimized image viewer with zooming and panning on smaller screens
Directly download and share images in all sizes
Connect with others through messages and comments
Like or favorite images, and manage favorited images
Funding Goal: €42,000
The Pixabay App is already designed, but needs professional software engineering to make sure that the final product meets the same high quality standards as our site images. The funding goal covers all design, development and administrative costs necessary to produce and maintain the app.
Stretch Goal: €55,000
Some of our requested features are currently scheduled for a later release, but will be moved up if we can reach our stretch goal:
- Take photos with the mobile device and directly upload them into your account
- Manage your own images from within the app
- Instant notifications/ better messaging system
Here is a brief timeline of how the app development will proceed once it is fully funded:
- Funding Goal Met/ Development Start - August 2016
- Development Completed - August/September 2016
- Beta Testing - September 2016
- Full Release - October 2016
Risks and challenges
We are very experienced programmers, but there will always be risks in any app development effort:
-This is a mobile, web, and server based software project, with all the risks normally associated with software development.
-There are also various risks in approval and deployment from Apple and Google that are out of our control. We do not anticipate any problems but it’s a process that we do not control.
Project costs and schedule estimates are the result of our evaluation of the technical and approval risks and our deep familiarity with this type of project. There will, of course, be some unforeseen glitches, which will promptly be reported in the Updates section. We are committed to completing this project once the funding goal has been achieved, and keeping you informed every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
