Thanks for all of your support!
We are very pleased to announce that due to the fantastic response we have had to this project we are now able to offer some stretch goals which can be seen below:
GOAL 1 ACHIEVED!! £1500 - orange "goldfish" solder screen colour similar to - you guessed it - a goldfish (see below for the colour test done by the PCB house)
GOAL 2 £2000 - immersion gold contacts
GOAL 3 £2500 - additional stickers - we will add an extra two Pi Supply stickers to go along with the Fish Dish sticker included with all of the pledges of Sticker Madness and above
GOAL 4 £4000 - COMING SOON
Help us to hit all of these goals!
- do you have more than one Pi? do you want another Pi? If you answered yes to either of these questions, why not double up your pledge, or add a RasPi and power supply to your order! See above for more details. Thanks a lot for all of your support so far!
- we also still have 1 of the FIRST EDITION pledges available...so if you want to get your Fish Dish kit first, and want to support The MagPi and the Raspberry Pi foundation at the same time then why not back at this level? You can also still add extra kit even if you back at this level. We will ship the FIRST EDITION rewards immediately after the end of the campaign, and will send any extra kit with all of the other pledges
Want to spice up your Raspberry Pi? Why not add a little Fish Dish on the side!
The Fish Dish is a super-fun add on board kit for the Raspberry Pi which is great for children and beginners, right the way up to seasoned professionals in electronics and computers.
Take one look at this board when it is up and running and it will bring a smile to anyone's face.
WHAT IS IT?
The Fish Dish is a breakout/add on board for the Raspberry Pi (can be used with other boards too - Arduino etc.) which makes it easy and extremely fun to use the GPIO on the Raspberry Pi. It plugs directly onto the GPIO pins with a 2 x 13 header and is in the shape of a three-eyed fish.
It has 3 LEDs (red, yellow, green), a buzzer and a switch. The Fish Dish can therefore be used to showcase a variety of different interfacing techniques, and brings physical computing to the Raspberry Pi in a cute and cheerful way!
It will also come with a stacking header (as pictured) meaning that you can still use the other GPIO pins if you wish.
WHY A KIT?
We love electronics kits for a multitude of reasons - they are fun to put together, you get a sense of achievement at the end of it, they are great for learning about soldering and electronics and many many more reasons...
At Pi Supply we are quite keen on the whole education and fun aspect of the Raspberry Pi and computing and electronics in general, so we feel that a kit is much more worthwhile to all of our backers.
However, you don't need to be a soldering god or an electronics pro to put our kits together - we make them simple enough even for absolute beginners to put together.
We have finished the design of the board and the circuit completely and using these we have set out on a production run of 15 printed circuit boards with our supplier of choice in order to check the quality. We are extremely pleased with the outcome, and think you will be too:
We have been performing tests with 5 of the boards, however we are delighted to say that we have the remaining 10 available to our backers in the FIRST EDITION reward. Pledge at this level and you will also be sending a donation to both the Raspberry Pi Foundation and The MagPi magazine - 50% of profits from these pledges will go to the Foundation and the remaining 50% to The MagPi.
We have also lined up supply of the components from various suppliers and are happy with the quality of all of the different components.
REWARDS AND DELIVERY
We already have the design and a working prototype so this is essentially a group buy style project. All we need is 50 people to sign up to receive a Fish Dish to get the product to you at a bargain price! Therefore this project is 100% risk free - once we reach our funding target we can then place the orders with our suppliers and everything will be on its way to your doors very soon.
As always with projects from Pi Supply, this project will be released as open source as soon as the Kickstarter project is over. The files will be available to view and download from our website at www.pi-supply.com as well as on Thingiverse.
WHO ARE WE?
Pi Supply started earlier this year with a project to bring a Raspberry Pi power switch to life. We successfully funded this project on Kickstarter, however that was only the beginning. We then opened a web store at www.pi-supply.com and have begun to fill it with cool things.
However some of the cool things we want to fill it with just do not exist yet - which is why we are bringing them to you here! We have lots of ideas for Raspberry Pi add on boards and acessories and we want to bring those to you over the coming months using Kickstarter as a sounding board for these ideas.
So far we have already had two successfully funded Kickstarter projects, and this has inspired us to keep reeling them out (we already have 6 more in various stages of planning!).
Thanks for your help and support in bringing these ideas to reality.
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Thanks for looking at our project and for your support in bringing it to life. Even bigger thanks if you have made a pledge to our project.
Even if you can't support with a pledge, why not help us by spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter and any other social networks or blogs you use?
KICKING IT FORWARD
This project is part of the Kicking it Forward movement! What this means is that if this project is successful, we will pledge 5% of the profits from the finished project back to the Kickstarter community to help fund the dreams of others. Read more at http://www.kickingitforward.org/
This is something we think is really important to keep this fantastic Kickstarter ecosystem going. And a great way of saying thanks for all the much needed support we have received!
MULTIPLE DEVICE ORDERS
- If you would like to add another blank PCB (with no components) to your pledge, please add £6 (+£3 for international shipping)
- If you would like to add another Fish Dish starter kit to your pledge, please just add an additional £9 to the total amount (+£3 for international shipping).
- If you would like to add another Raspberry Pi + power supply to your pledge please add £45 (+£5 for international shipping)
- If you would like to add another ULTIMATE KIT to your pledge please add £60 (+£5 for international shipping)
Obviously we will be throwing in extra stickers with these too!!
At the end of the Kickstarter campaign, we will send out a survey with an option to tell us about any additional items you pledged for.
Risks and challenges
There are not many risks and challenges because, as stated above, this is essentially a group buy. The PCB design is already finalised and tested and is working great.
We already have production quality units in hand and they have been confirmed to be working correctly.
The only risks and challenges are the supply of the PCBs and other rewards themselves, and the reliability of the shipping networks.
We have made sure to get quotes from various suppliers for both PCB manufacture and component supply, which should mitigate any delay should either of them not be able to fulfil our orders in time. We have also made sure to use commonly available components, so that they can easily be sourced from a variety of suppliers.
In terms of shipping, the kits will be assembled as soon as the materials arrive with us. This will not be more than a few weeks after the end of the Kickstarter project, so everyone will have their kits shipped out before the end of December 2013!
We have literally just finished fulfilling orders from our previous project, the Pi Crust, so we may have a small bit of work still to do with that project too...but we have done as much as we can to reduce this as a risk.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
