Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely nothing! If you come from the above three places, the shipping price is already included in the $397 and you do not need to add anything else.
If you are a Canadian/Singapore backer, please select shipping in the US.Last updated:
We are shipping to all the seven seas, yarr! As such, our blanket rate covers all corners of the world. Our shipping package weighs about 10kg, so on average it would cost over $100 to ship.Last updated:
Yes. If your shipping costs less than the stipulated amount pledged, we will refund you by providing extra material cartridges.Last updated:
This is possible by shipping in bulk. If we are shipping a whole bunch of Buccaneers to your town, we will accrue the savings to you. So go out and start knocking on your neighbours' doors telling them the good word about the Pirates!Last updated:
PRINTING: Can I use my own 3D Design software and then upload to the cloud or do I have to use Smart Objects?
You can use any 3D design software and upload to the cloud, don't worry!Last updated:
It accepts all .stl files and it is up to you what you wish to use.Last updated:
Yes you may. We have a backup WiFi printing mode similar to Octoprint which can be used in the event that zombies attack and all servers are destroyed.Last updated:
That's a really good question and very appropriate considering how most corporations go. But that is not how we roll. There are absolutely NO hidden costs involved with the printer. Software is free to use and will always be.Last updated:
Officially speaking, on the record stuff, we do not support ABS and only PLA. The Buccaneer is a home-focused product, and quite a lot of our supporters could be parents - so your health (and ours) is of foremost importance!
That said...our Buccaneer has a backup WiFi mode similar to Octoprint, where you can flip a switch...and everything magically goes into ABS mode. Though the majority of our users probably won't ever need to use it.
In short, we only "support" PLA, but if you want to use ABS, you can.Last updated:
You can use it on both windows, macs and Linux. We just use Macs in our photos for simplicity's sake.Last updated:
We answered this in the comments thread but will post this here in case anyone misses it:
A larger build platform would increase the weight of the z-axis. So we would have to redesign it to ensure that it maintains orthogonality with the XY movement of the nozzle. We're focusing on making the best and most easy to use 3d printer possible right now, so we're keeping our dev simple and manageable for now.
In short, we won't be increasing the build area to keep on track with our development schedule and deliver the printers to you on time.Last updated:
Yes, there will be so don't worry too much about that!Last updated:
After funding is over and we ask you for your location, we will pack in the right voltage power supply for you.Last updated:
The Buccaneer supports WiFi or RJ-45 (Ethernet Port) if you prefer a cable connection.
We do not like USB as the connection is often buggy, and the need to install USB drivers (and code a driver for every platform) makes life difficult for a lot of people.Last updated:
Unlike other 3D printer projects that build their units by hand, we're going with a contract manufacturer right off the bat. Our contract manufacturer that we have teamed up with runs the production lines for many MNCs.
Production is easily scaled depending on the number of orders we receive. All we would have to do is increase the number of production lines with our manufacturer.Last updated:
PRODUCTION: How is it possible your 3D printers are so affordable??? This must be a scam! *rage rage*
It is totally possible by using smart manufacturing. We designed the Buccaneer to be mass produced rather than hand built, and thus this lowers the per-unit cost significantly.
We are also comfortable with lower margins. This makes it more difficult to go through distribution channels, but we're willing to do so to achieve our goal of widespread 3D printer proliferation.Last updated:
Hi everyone! We think it's about time for an official statement on ordering new cartridges. Just a recap to start:
1) Cartridges of 300 grams will be sold on Kickstarter at 10USD but will be 12USD after the campaign ends.
2) If you will like more cartridges, please add them to your amount at 10USD/Cartridge. EG, $397 + $50 = $447 will get you 1 (the free one) + 5 = 6 cartridges total.
3) Take note the MAXIMUM extra cartridges each backer (of a printer reward) can order is 10. Meaning $100 max above your pledge amount. Any extra than that we will take it that you are just being generous =D
The reason for this is that any more than 10 cartridges will start to incur much more shipping charges, we are willing to cover the shipping costs of up to 10 cartridges and we hope that all of you find this a fair deal.
3a) If you have already selected the $497 batch with 10 cartridges, you cannot order more cartridges. The max is 10 extra cartridges for any backer. If you give us more, we will be ever grateful and thank you for your generous donation =)
4) Closer to the shipping date, you can order more cartridges on our main website but it will be at 12 USD and you will incur shipping charges on that. We will try our very best to ensure a stock is present at each location with high volume to save you on the shipping.
5) You can select your colours closer to the shipping date as well when we send out a survey asking you what you would like.
Hope that helps!Last updated:
