Bigger, bawdier, and boozier than ever; Piramania! is returning to the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer. Help us make this ambitious project a boat-rocking success!
Written by Tim Frost and David Massingham, Piramania! The Swashbuckling Pirate Musical is an adult musical-comedy, ambitiously staged with a cast of 10 actor-musicians by director Alex Howarth (We Live By The Sea), with musical direction by Ben Papworth (Bad Girls), orchestrations by Mark Aspinall, and produced/choreographed by Holly Robin, who literally moved to the UK from Australia to make this show!
Premiering in 2010 to rave reviews and multiple sell-out performances, this original piece of British musical theatre has been adapted for a bigger stage, is now fully orchestrated, and has an outstandingly talented cast of actor-musicians bringing this debaucherous tale to life.
Rallying such a large crew is a monumental task and we're asking for your help to ensure the next leg of our journey sails as smoothly as possible! We have a lengthy list of expenses in order to get the crew to Edinburgh and looking and sounding great. In particular, we’ve realised that we need to:
- mic our actors and instruments (a cost of over £5000 in itself!)
- hire rehearsal space in London
- transport our selves and equipment to Edinburgh
As well as numerous other ad hoc expenses. Finally, and most importantly, we want our company to be comfortable during their month performing and, as such, are already paying them for their services. Edinburgh is expensive and draining, however, so to help further:
- We will give the company 1/5th of all funds raised through this campaign! Similarly, any profit made from this production will be shared among the company.
We are offering exclusive merchandise, show participation opportunities, and advertising space in our programme and on our flyers – at least 20,000 of which will be distributed around Edinburgh over the duration of the Fringe Festival, as well as via our social media.
Our outstanding actor musicians have spent the last 3 days learning the music of Piramania! in London, alongside the close help of Mark and Ben. Follow our journey on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to see the #PiratesInLondon, #PiratesInEdinburgh and our fabulous crew batten down the hatches and secure the mainsail of the Golden Hinde in London Bridge!
Previewing in London at Upstairs at the Gatehouse July 22&23, and playing in Underbelly's 278 seater Cowbarn in Bristo Square July 31 - August 26 (not 12) 16:35 daily during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Book a deal including your tickets and catch us on (or back!) stage this summer.

Risks and challenges
We have two weeks of rehearsal scheduled in July before we preview in London.
Our tech, sets, instruments, costumes, and pirates need to be transported to our rehearsal space, the venue, and packed up into the van ready to be driven up to Edinburgh at the same time as our actors arriving by overnight coach early on July 27, before heading straight into tech at the theatre with Underbelly!
