Please keep supporting & sharing our Kickstarter!

In a world where cyberspace has made emotions obsolete, is there any use for real love?

Robot Will Protect You is a visually stunning animated short, with heartwarming characters and a humorous, emotional script akin to Hayao Miyazaki’s films.
It’s a spin-off of Nicola Piovesan’s “Attack of the Cyber Octopuses”, an award winning short film made by the same author and funded through Kickstarter (where it got 133% of its starting goal!), entirely made with practical effects in truly 80s sci-fi style.
Set in the same dystopian world of dark and rainy Neo Berlin, Robot Will Protect You takes place 17 years earlier, and follows the adventures of a 9 year old Tina (the same badass Tina of Attack of the Cyber Octopuses) and her big clumsy robot, SAM-53. Here's a teaser:

The story is set in the year 2062: Cyberspace has become indistinguishable from reality and people can now get complete emotional satisfaction online, without having to interact with other humans. Many end up addicted to cyberspace, increasingly separated from the real world.
To maintain the population, the government encourages people to procreate by offering the incentive of a free robot to help with the children.
One rainy night in futuristic Neo Berlin, nine year old Tina and her guardian robot, SAM-53, set off on a quest that asks: if cyberspace has made romantic love obsolete, do we still need love in the real world?

The animation style is ‘toon cyberpunk’ - built in 3D CGI but rendered with the look of hand drawn cartoons to achieve a mix between Disney classics and Japanese anime. This technique allows for stunning camera movements and elaborate animation while keeping the warmth of classic cartoons.
In this tutorial I explain how I'm achieving the look of "Robot Will Protect You":

There are a lot of cool rewards for our backers: from files packages including the original script and storyboard to digital copies of the movie. But also big posters, framed artworks, tote bags, t-shirts and blurays, as well as many other combos and personalized perks like the chance to be an animated character in the movie! Not to mention IMDb credits and new special perks that will be announced through the course of the campaign (sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know and get priority access to all of them)! Here are some of the perks:

The person behind the project is Nicola Piovesan, an award winning Italian Filmmaker and Producer based in Estonia, with more than 70 awards in Film Festivals around the world. Nicola created the world, characters and original concept of the film. Check out his showreel for a preview of his works.

The screenplay is written by Matt Willis-Jones, a London born award winning Director/Writer (but also VFX composer and painter) now based in Mexico City.
For voicing the robot SAM-53, we'll have the voice acting legend Richard Epcar, who has voiced over 500 characters in games and anime, including Batou, the co-protagonist of Ghost in the Shell, Jigen from Lupin the 3rd, Raiden from Mortal Kombat, the game version of The Joker and many more!

While the young Tina will be voiced by the talented Lizzie Freeman (known for “Secret of Mana” or “God Complex”).

Many professionals from all around the globe are pitching in to help Nicola with animating, modeling, texturing and everything else necessary for making this film stunning!
The original soundtrack will be made through a collaboration between different artists: Canadian Yann Latour, Swedish Valsaland, Italian Giacomo Franzoso and more!

Risks and challenges
Like every low budget film, the biggest challenge will be to do everything on time, while optimizing the limited funds and creating a high quality product.
We have more than 15 years of experience and many awards worldwide from class A festivals. We are specialized in low budget films and are very capable of creating high quality products with limited funds. A nice example is our previous work “ATTACK OF THE CYBER OCTOPUSES” (here is a trailer: https://youtu.be/DFolO07bDdw), made with a very low budget yet creating a professional final product. Its Kickstarter campaign ended in March 2017 and within six months everybody received their perks, film included!
Check out our company website www.chaosmonger.com to see more examples of quality low-budget films.
Let’s make this film a reality, all together!
