$1M reached! + stretch goals

We have reached $1M, futurists <3

The figure is growing faster than we expected, so we have already filled in your Kickstarter package with some little gifts... just to say thank you! :-)

Many people asked us the question: Why Kickstarter? Here is the answer:

  • Kickstarter is a great way for us to test how many people out there are actually interested in big FOV and high-resolution VR
  • We prefer to estimate the market demand in advance to prepare our production schedule
  • We want VR futurists like you to get 8K sooner
  • We want more futurists to be able to test 8K earlier, so we need funding for roadshows
  • We need to finalize those modules, e.g. hand motion, eye tracking, wireless transmission, inside-out tracking, scent enabling module etc.

We prefer to focus our energy on fulfilling the Kickstarter packages first, which means, we will not move on to launch 8K outside of Kickstarter until ALL of our Kickstarter backers have received their rewards on June, 2018.

Best regards,

The Pimax Team

Thunderbolt 3 can support 40gbps or 2 4k displays @ 60hz. It would be amazing if the only required connection was a usb c plug. Can this be done?

Are the headphones on the deluxe strap over the ear like the Pimax 4K, or over the ear like the current HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap? Is there possibly an option to choose?

Can you make the controllers grip button be zero force to press, similar to the Oculus Touch grip button. It is important to make it easy to press, so you can hold objects without fatigue of your hand.

Also, include a thumb stick in each controller. It is easier for use in FPS for walking, and turning.

Actually the important part is not the look, its the functions. The knuckels you dont have to hold, you can fix them at your hands,...and much more important they have finger tracking. Of course i want the knuckels controller, this is the reason i updated to the Full package pledge.

Q: Thanks for the gifts! For the $2,000,000 mark, I don't care what it is just as long as it is not the smell module. I'm scared of that thing.
A: I see. It would be even scarier with smells in certain games.

Q: @Pimax i wonder why you didn't say anything about the controller in your update. I'm still waiting for an official upate that confirms that we will get the knuckles style controller.

@Suk because a top of the line BMW would be WAY more expensive than eye tracking modules, discount coupons, or the wireless module. Not to mention a top of the line BMW would have absolutely no relation to this awesome Pimax headset. Come to think of it though, there's probably a VR game out there that lets you drive a top of the line BMW. I think I'll take a spin when I get this headset, and it'll be like they threw one in lol.

A: there are two magnets on the frame. Simply attach it to the lenses.

I'm overly ecstatic about the head strap with headphones. I wasn't expecting any extras. Just to have built in headphones is such a huge convenience for me as I always disliked having to put on a headset after the visor then vise versa when I'm done.

Mark Smith@ You asking way too much. Why don't you just ask them for free top of the line BMW car when $1.5 million stretch goal??

    16. Missing avatar

      Mark Smith on

I'm telling ya, if you want to see the numbers spike, do the cooling fan with eye tracking (instead of Rx lenses) at $1.5M and then toss in the wireless adapter at the $2M mark. Leave the Rx lenses as a purchase item on the website, but throw in a 25% off coupon for the backers. You could do the same thing with the smell module. Put both of them as a discounted item unlock at $1,750,000 so it feels like backers are getting something on the way from $1.5M to $2M. Then toss those modules up on the Kickstarter page as purchase items, with a spot to enter the discou6code for backers, and it'll aid in driving the goal amount to the desired $2M.

Alright John, lets not consider the past and aim for the future. The opinion I've shared was mostly influenced by other kickstarters but my later points remain valid. The prescription lenses are extremely specific. Instead of going for something that only few will fully appreciate why not go with something that's useful for everyone? Much like the improved headstrap (which I totally dig). A good example is a premium case to safely store the unit.

It might be more useful to come up with suggestions of what the new future packages might hold. Instead of what could have been.

Just for a second think what you are suggesting Bugi Bogdan, consider at what amount pledges are atm. Now what makes you talk about stretch goal points that have already been PASSED?
How would it matter even if the stretch goal package was made into one package at 1 million mark? Since we have passed that mark already...

    20. Bugi Bogdan on

In my 1st point I meant "additional face cushion". Sorry for the confusion.

    21. Bugi Bogdan on

      1. I feel like the additional headstrap could have been at a lower stretch goal, something more like $350.000.
      2. The Deluxe headstrap would fit much more nicely at the 700.000 stretch goal (more than 3x initial goal).
      3. Prescription lenses are a big plus but they're literally not useful at all to a big portion of the backers. I would suggest putting this as a separate option to get by tweaking your pledge (like the hand tracking module). Having said that we're left with the cooling fan which doesn't fit at all the $500.000 stretch goal considering we can 3d print it easily.
      4. Eye tracking module is one of the key features people are looking forward to. I think that the $1.500.000 mark should be for unlocking this module at a discounted price. About $40-$60.

Those are my 2 cents. Also, a useful strech goal for $1.200.000, that I'm sure many would appreciate, is a high quality package that can be used for trasporting the unit(Similar to what htc's and oculus'). Nonetheless I'm excited for the headstrap. Definitely a huge improvement over the standard one.

    22. bubbleball on

I think wireless module and eye tracking has a high cost, so they have to decide that these will be pledge more option or stretch goal.

Is the head strap actually more comfortable than the Rift head strap? I am asking because the head strap looks similar to the Acer, HP, and other Microsoft HMD headstraps with the resting on forehead design, but those headsets are actually NOT comfortable. Please actually test the head strap for comfort against the Rift head strap before deciding to use it.

i think wireless module and eye tracking module are the two big things that people are waiting for...if you give this to the backers for a small additional pledge we will reach the 1,5 or even 2M in very very short time

any news about eye tracking module? i would like to add it if its not to high costs
A: we will update asap. how much would you pay for an eye tracking module? :P

i have no knowledge about the production costs and such a things, also in comparison to the hand motion module i have no idea if its more or less complicated. Also it depends how good it realy works.

The strech goals are nice, but i am a little disappointed...its already 5 times the money that was necessary to reach the project goal, so i thought we would have reached at least 3 or 4 strech goals, This is the negativ part when the strech goals coming so late :/ having this in my mind i would think you should give people a big discount on additional modules. so for example if you want to sell the eye tracking later for $100, we should ge it for $75.

Giving it a little more thought, because some people don't wear glasses, and due to the headset being large enough to accommodate people who wear glasses (making it so the detachable Rx lenses are a nice to have, but not a need to have), I also didn't realize the headstrap with earphones was the "deluxe strap". I revise my thoughts on stretch goals to what I had before, with adjustments to the following:

$1,000,000 = deluxe head strap with earphones
$1,500,000 = cooling fan + option of either detachable Rx lenses, OR eye tracking adapter
$2,000,000 = wireless adapter (I think this is KEY to getting people to really push to hit this)

Loving the update, and very thankful for anything you guys decide to go with. Anything additional is better than nothing at all, so THANK YOU!!!
I think by negating a $1,250,000 goal, the $500,000 increase from $1,000,000 would be more justifiable by the public, and future kickstart investors, if it included the either or option of Rx lenses or eye tracking adapter. It would also justify the increased cost of the eye tracking adapter being included from Pimax's side of things.

Q: are the earphones fixes or are they removeable ?
      A: removeable.

While this is great and all, I honestly feel it should have gone like this:
      $500,000 = extra face cushion
      $750,000 = headstrap with earphones
$1,000,000 = deluxe headstrap with earphones
$1,250,000 = cooling fan & Rx lens combo
      $1,500,000 = eye tracking adapter
      $2,000,000 = wireless adapter

I think doing a stretch goal for every $500,000 is a bit much, and that every $250,00 is more reasonable, especially since that more than doubles the initial goal amount for each stretch. Just my 2 cents though.
