BlackStuff Foam Efficiency Experiment
Air Purification Capabilities
How do I use it?
Step 1 - Place in the room you need purified
Step 2 - Enjoy
How is it built?
PILO is built like any other throw pillow, with an polyester insert full of foam encapsulated in a pillow cover, in this case made of natural linen. The difference here is the foam. While other throw pillows are stuffed with regular polyester foam or feathers, PILO is filled with our revolutionary Activated Charcoal embedded BlackStuff stuffing. The linen covers are extremely breathable, allowing dirty air to penetrate the pillow and clean air to exit with little to no resistance.
Why should I use PILO Purifiers?
Apart from the obvious deodorizing properties of PILO, there are are even greater reasons why such a product is important. It can be summarized in three words: Indoor Air Pollution.
Indoor air pollution is composed of outside air pollution that invades our homes like car pollution and industrial waste, plus all the indoor pollution sources like mildew, cleaning chemicals, dust mites, pet hairs, dust, tobacco smoke, etc. The sources are endless, making the reasons to buy such a product just as endless.
In fact, according to the World Health Organization, indoor air can be up to 10 times more polluted than outside air, causing 90% of people to breathe overly polluted air, resulting in 7 millions deaths each year.
Here are just a few symptoms of indoor air pollution:
Sinus Congestion, Coughing, Sneezing, Dryness and Irritation, Allergies, Fatigue, Headaches, Dizziness, Upper respiratory congestion.
As well as more serious diseases like:
Severe Lung Disease, Asthma, Rashes, Conjunctivitis and many more...
These pollutants are mainly composed of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). VOCs are gases of chemical particulates floating around and mixing in with regular air we breath. These particulates are up to 10 times more present in indoors than outdoors, causing us to breath in these compounds in dangerously high amounts.
Activated Charcoal is among the best materials to trap these compounds and filter the air ofthem. Luckily, PILO has plenty of it.
Does it really work?
We at BlackStuff haven't reinvented the wheel. Activated Charcoal have been used for deodorizing and air purification for centuries. We have taken a proven, tested product with absolutely great reviews, replaced the regular activated charcoal with our more adapted foam, supersized it so it will cover more area, integrated it in a product that fits your decor better and voila PILO Purifiers.
PILO Purifiers Testimonials
We lent our prototypes to a few friends and asked them to write a review. Yeah, we know, friends are biased but we still asked them to be as honest as possible. Here are a few reviews.
"Not wanting to smoke in the house, I go to the garage to have a cigarette from time to time. No matter how much I try to get rid of the lingering tobacco smell, it just keeps coming back. I was lucky to be able to try PILO Purifiers before the release and was pleasantly surprised! Barely 24 hours later, I could already smell the difference! I can say the smell dropped maybe 80% after a day and even more the next day. I was sad to have to give PILO back and can't wait to get a few of my own!"
"The beautiful cat you see in the video is actually mine! Lovely cat, the litter box, not so much... We did notice a big difference with PILO in the room. When the cat is freshly out of the litter box it still smells for a while though. Give it a few minutes and you notice a difference right away. Overall, the house smells a lot better with PILO. Wish I had more than one to properly test out, but looks very promising. Would definitely get one."
"I live in an Indian-Canadian home and my mom loves to cook Indian food. I personally don't mind the smell that much but my friends notice it right away when they come in the house. I tried PILO in my room to see if there will be a difference with the rest of the house and the results are staggering. I especially notice it when I step out of my room and into the rest of the house. I think it would help for sure to have a few around the house."

Risks and challenges
The main challenge for us is reducing shipping costs. Since throw pillows are bulky, shipping costs are higher than what we would have hoped for. We are committed to working with our shipping partners in order to reduce these costs.
Another challenge is to keep costs low enough to have competitive pricing while still producing locally. We believe that the pros of local manufacturing (quality control, job creation, no shipping time, etc) vastly outweigh the cons and are committed to keeping the operations local.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
