About this project
Electric Projected is a FREE outdoor art and music festival that will be held in Beacon NY on the evening of October 1st 201. The focus of the festival are 24 original animations that will be projected onto the side of a vacant 19th century factory building in Beacon NY. Each animation is inspired by and designed to "interact" with artwork that is currently installed in the large windows of the factory as part of the Electric Windows project. Each animation has been designed to cover the entire side of the 160' wide x 60' tall factory building and will "interact" with the structure of the building giving the allusion that the building is transforming before your eyes! During the animations, DJ Bobby Collins of BOBBY C SOUND TV from Denver Colorado will be performing a live audio mix that will react to the animations as they play. After the animations BOBBY C SOUND TV will transform the festival into an epic outdoor dance party and will be projecting the visual from his set onto the side of the building. This will be a night to remember so bring a lawn chair ( maybe a blanket since it's October) and your dancing shoes you will be glad you have both!

For those of you considering supporting this awesome project, you should first know the story. Electric Projected almost happened once already. It was scheduled for August 6th 2011. We were fortunate to have about 15 local businesses in Beacon sponsor the event. Everything was set up and well organized.
The projection company arrived on Friday and set up the 2 massive 35k projectors on a 20' scaffold across from the building. We tested the projections and they looked amazing and everyone was excited.
$14,000 worth of projection gear...
YEAH THE ANIMATIONS ARE THIS BIG.
2 event organizers camped out over night in shifts to ensure the safety of the projectors. On Saturday the mood was electric, volunteers were doing last minute promotions and setup and at 12 noon the street was blocked off for event setup. The stage and sound was set up for the music. Power was routed and secured from our generous sponsors at the Roundhouse. The street lights were shut off for the evening to make it extra dark during the projections. Setup was moving along nicely, however, everyone had one eye on setup and another eye on the weather. The forecast called for a 30% chance of rain. No one was happy about it, but the odds were in our favor and we pushed on with fingers crossed. The midday report from the projectionists was that we could project in the rain so we stayed positive and moved forward as planned. The first band arrived around 3pm and sound check begun. The sound was great and everyone was getting very excited for the event we had been planning for months to start.
The mood was in a word "electric". Everything was set up and ready to go by 5:30 (the event officially started at 6pm) around 5:45pm we felt the first drops, the forecast had jumped from 30% chance to 40% chance. We all crossed our fingers and waited for the New England thunderstorm to do what they normally do, rain hard for 15 minutes and then leave. Unfortunately the storm did not budge. But the rain wasn't too bad and the projectionists were still positive that the show would go on. Then around 7pm ( when the first band was about to start) the wind came. It was light at first but quickly picked up and brought more rain with it. People scrambled to their computers to check the doppler radar. The storm had a tail. and the tail was long... The next 2 hours were tense but people kept arriving and waiting. Reports were coming in that every restaurant in town was packed with people waiting for the rain to stop or for the projections to start which ever happened first. However, The wind kept blowing and the rain kept falling. The tail of the storm was dragging right across Beacon and it seemed like it was staying for the party...
Around 9:00pm it was plenty dark enough to project the animations, however the projectionist wanted to wait for the wind to stop.Although the projectors were covered the possibility of the equipment getting wet (and damaged) as a result of the wind was too high. So we waited. By 10pm it became obvious the weather was not going to cooperate and we had to call off the projections. We were all disappointed but the crowds that stuck it out were still in good spirits and were inquiring about rain dates and what would happen next. So the evening wasn't a total wash we quickly setup a small projector inside OPEN SPACE gallery and the remaining crowds crammed in elbow to elbow and we showed the animations on the back wall of the gallery. Those in attendance were in awe. The crowds cheered and clapped as each animation was shown. glow sticks were handed out and everyone smiled. Some people watched the show a few times and continually cheered at their favorites and others took their glow sticks outside and danced in the wind and rain. over time everyone began to look outside at the massive building where the projections were supposed to be shown and imagined how amazing he show would be if it were projected larger than life on the 5 story factory building outside. As the crowds left for the night everyone inquired about how they could help Electric Projected happen as it was intended, as an outdoor event with the animations shown on the building and music in the street.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
As you can imagine, a project of this size requires a considerable amount of rented equipment and skilled technicians to pull off. Every dollar we receive from this campaign will go directly to paying all of the hard cost related to this project.
The organizers and animators involved in this project are not getting paid. We are doing it purely for the opportunity to see this project become a reality.
You could get this awesome shirt!
THANK YOU !!!!!
Note about Kickstarter funding: If we do not reach our funding goal by Sept 24th, we do not receive any funds and your credit card will not be charged. Please click the green button to the right so that your pledge will be counted and we can make Electric Projected a reality!
