About this project
My goal is to hit the "Big Apple" and show my "Noir" collection in Couture Fashion Week this September. I believe this may be the right platform to help "Kickstart" my career. My drive and determination come from my mother who left me way too soon from Colon Cancer. I miss her very much.
I often take part in fundraisers where fashion shows help raise money for cancer and other types of charities. By helping others, I believe we can help ourselfs in turn.
I am a recent UCLA Masters graduate, sewing by day and waitressing by night in order to pay off my student loans. The money donated by you would help pay for the entry fee to the New York Coutoure Fashion Show in September 2011.
I am grateful for any support you can give, I know times are tough. If given the opportunity - I will prove to you that your efforts will not only go unnoticed, but that you'll be proud of the work I've accomplished with your help. Lets take the Journey and keep the art of Haute Couture alive!
Follow me to NYC. I am on a journey to couture fashion week this September. Let’s preserve a dying art form!
A couturier’s work is just as valid as a Barbara Hepworth or a Botticelli. The initial concept begins with an inspiration and a unique design using excellent artistry with the fashioning of the highest quality of materials.
What makes Couture Haute?
Haute couture technique uses the artistry of high design similar to sculpture. When you think of high design one can picture the empire state building or a Richard Serra. So when you peel open a Charles James or a Chanel garment one can see the same process of complex design such as the structure of the garment. The structure can include spiral cut bones, interlining, padding and long hours of vigorous hand sewing techniques as well as fabric manipulation. But remember, a mock-up or a toile must be completed on the form to get the perfect shape similar to a sculptor utilizing an armature.
The estimated clientele who purchase Haute Couture is extremely exclusive; it ranges from 1,400-2,600. People are responding to changing times and fast fashion and ready-to-wear has become the "norm" to the industry. Anna Wintour blames editor of French Vogue Carine Roitfeld for not providing young designers with enough support to survive in Haute Couture. Pilar Macchione wants to branch away from fast fashion and provide her client base with unique custom fashions. It is her dream to present collections at the Haute Couture shows in Paris. Couture Fashion Week in NY can be the launching pad she needs.
Pilar Macchione strives to keep the vision and technique of Haute Couture alive.
Haute Couture garments are exhibited in fine museums just like paintings and sculpture.
Haute Couture is an art form.
