About this project
Butterpat is a unique take on the food cart phenomenon. Using fresh seasonal ingredients from local organic suppliers, we will provide all-natural, heartwarming Southern food with a unique regional influence. Call it Southern-Northwest Fusion, if you like!
Why Butterpat? Well, I grew up in the Mississippi Delta. I've been gone for a few years now, but we in the Southern diaspora never lose our taste for butter. It represents the ultimate in damn-it-all comfort food; bread may feed the body, but butter feeds the soul. And it's so versatile! Everything, even a food cart, is better when topped with a sunny little butterpat.
I've spent my life in the Delta and on the West Coast perfecting my recipes, specializing in pie. Now I'm finally ready to share my tender, flaky, buttery pie with the world! Sweet and savory pies will change on a daily and seasonal basis to take advantage of the produce when it's at its best. Look for savories like Herbed Chicken Pot Pie, Spring Vegetable Quiche, Tomato-Basil Caprese Pie, Sunday Pot Roast Cottage Pie, and Turkey Leek Pie. For dessert, you might try my legendary Maple-Bacon Cream Pie (also available without bacon if you prefer), a Salted Lavender Caramel Tart, Meyer Lemon Icebox Pie, Butternut Squash Pie, or Peach-Marionberry Pie. A la mode? Oh yes ma'am!
Butterpat will also offer breakfast - my soft fluffy biscuits (seriously, they're the best in Portland!) with my own secret-recipe gravy (or honey, or homemade herbal jelly); my pancakes come in seven different flavors, including gluten-free. For lunch, if for some reason you've had enough pie, you can try a Plate Lunch of slow-cooked blackeyed peas, collard greens, and creamy corn casserole with your choice of meat (vegetarians, try the tofu fatback). And you can't beat our Mac & Bleu, a creamy bleu cheese mac available with or without thick-cut bacon. Daily specials will round out the menu!
So where do you come in?
I'm asking for $15,000 to supplement my own savings. After Kickstarter and Amazon take their cut, this will allow me to purchase and outfit the cart, as well as meet my county licensing & insurance requirements. In exchange for your pledges, you'll be entitled to some pretty awesome rewards!
Note: If you're not in the USA, please add $5 to your pledge to help me out with shipping!
By the way, NPR says pie is the next big thing. Move on over, cutesycakes, it's time for PIE to shine!
