The only way to get a Pico Model C right now is by pledging through our Kickstarter page, here!Last updated:
Pico Model C’s brew cycle takes about 2 hours to complete. After the brew cycle is finished, the beer will need to ferment for about a week before consumption and then you will need to carbonate your beer before drinking. So, from PicoPak to pint, the whole process will take around a week with force carbonation (requires CO2 regulator, carbonation adapter and CO2 cartridge) or about two weeks with natural carbonation.Last updated:
Pico C connects directly to the internet via WiFi, so you don’t have to worry about pesky Ethernet cables or apps that aren’t compatible with your platform.Last updated:
Pico C can brew beers up to 10% ABV and as high as 100 IBUs. It can brew all major styles of beer listed in the 2015 Beer Judging (BJCP) style guidelines. We don't currently package fruit or liquid adjuncts (e.g. honey) as part of a PicoPak but you can add your own directly to the keg for fermentation.Last updated:
Pico C’s dimensions are 16”x12”x13.8” (HxWxD), and it weighs 23 lbs, which makes it much smaller than most microwaves on the market. So yes, it should fit nicely right between your toaster and coffee machine!
We offer a one year limited warranty to our Kickstarter backers purchasing Pico C.Last updated:

Each PicoPak comes with a perfectly sized packet of carbonation sugar. After racking your beer from the Brewing Keg to the Serving Keg simply pour the provided sugar packet into the Serving Keg. Let the Serving Keg sit undisturbed for about 7 days, or until fully carbonated. Chill in refrigerator for at least 12 hours before serving. Alternatively, you can Force Carbonate it in about 36 hours using a carbonation adapter (available as an accessory for purchase in the BrewGear section of our website).Last updated:
Yes, absolutely. If you'd like to "bottle" condition in the 5L keg each PicoPak comes with a package of priming sugar exactly measured to the batch or you can rack the finished beer into bottles and do traditional bottle conditioning.Last updated:
It depends on how you are dispensing. If you are dispensing with a vent plug at the top of the keg, where you must open the vent plug to let air in, then the beer will stale faster "like a growler that you open and re-cap."
If you are dispensing with a CO2 system, either a commercial mini kegerator, party tap, or CO2 regulator, and there aren’t any leaks in the system, the shelf life could be anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on the style.Last updated:
The Pico C Brew Keg will not support the kind of pressure that is used during force carbonation or serving. It is for brewing and fermentation only. A 5L Serving Keg is provided with your Pico Model C for carbonation and serving. If you would like to use a kegerator, we suggest using a keg with ball lock connectors such as our 1.75G Brew Keg available on our store.Last updated:
We have redesigned the most expensive elements of the current Pico to make it more affordable. Our patented brewing technology sanitizes the Pico and keg as part of the brew cycle. After each brew, you'll follow a simple rinse and cleaning program and after fermentation the keg can be cleaned either by hand washing or in the dishwasher. The Pico C Brew Keg is even simpler to clean than our earlier brewing kegs. Based on customer feedback, the Pico C Brew Keg we use with this model will not support the 1.75G ball lock kegs.
Not only is it easier to clean, but it is also easier to connect. The color-coded hoses easily push on to barbed connectors, no ball locks to mess with. To top it off, with the Pico Model C users no longer needs to purchase a sous vide adapter as the new keg has that function built in. The Pico Model C can use any PicoPak that the original Pico can use even the FreeStyle PicoPaks!Last updated:
PicoPaks are available for purchase at the BrewMarketplace (www.brewmarketplace.com) on our website. Each brew produces 5 liters of delicious beer. This is a little over 14 12oz. beers.
Most PicoPaks on BrewMarketplace are $19-30, depending on the ingredients. And each PicoPak brewed will produce about fourteen 12oz beers. This means that each 12oz beer you consume costs you between $1.35-2.15.
An even better option is our new BrewUnlimited service. It's like "Netflix" for beer, for $60/mo. you can brew all the fresh craft beer you want. Order 2 PicoPaks, brew them, order 2 more. You get the picture.Last updated:
Most PicoPaks have a six-month shelf life. If you are using a recipe with liquid yeast you'll need to take that out of the kit and refrigerate it upon arrival. Also, if you are not going to brew right away you should put the hops in the fridge as well.
PicoPaks are compostable in municipal composters, and therefore we strongly recommend throwing your used Paks in the food waste bin when finished.Last updated:
Each PicoPak ingredients kit contains:
- Hops Pak
- Grains Pak
- Dry hop Pak (if dry hopping is required)
- Yeast packet (for fermenting)
- Beer keg sticker (to label your dispensing keg)
Each ingredients Pak may also hold other adjuncts unique to that beer, such as spices and water amendments, and will be noted on the packaging. Some PicoPaks will be created with organic ingredients. This will be indicated on the PicoPak box, as well as on the website.Last updated:
There are a lot of options. The BrewMarketplace is home to hundreds of licensed PicoPaks, ranging from ambers to saisons. If you would like to add your own flair to a recipe, you can use the brew customization feature on the Pico to adjust a recipe’s IBU and ABV content. (Some paks restrictions apply.) If you own a Zymatic, you can also join the PicoBrew Developer’s Program and design your own PicoPaks to sell on BrewMarketplace! Finally, there’s Freestyle, PicoBrew’s fully customizable program to develop your own PicoPak.Last updated:
Brew Pulse is an iPhone and Android mobile app that keeps you up to date throughout the end-to-end brewing process. After signing in to your PicoBrew account on your phone or tablet, you’ll be able to monitor your brew as it progresses from brewing to fermentation and carbonation through to consumption. For safety reasons, we require the brew to be started on the Pico device.Last updated:
What is BrewUnlimited and how does the program work? When does my 2 mo/1 yr BrewUnlimited program start?
Think of it as all the beer you can brew from any available PicoPak (including Freestyle PicoPaks and Kombucha PicoPaks) available in BrewMarkeplace. There are two lengths to get started. For $100 dollars for two months or $500 for a year, you get 2 PicoPaks at a time, brew those, order 2 more. Again and again. The choice of PicoPaks is yours. We’ve decided to include with both BrewUnlimited subscriptions a new Pico C Brew Keg and a Serving Keg, for every Kickstarter backer who’s pledging BrewUnlimited at the 2 or 12 month level!
BrewUnlimited is currently available in US, Canada, the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. Shipping is included in the contiguous US. It’s an easy way to brew all you want from any available PicoPak in BrewMarketplace. BrewUnlimited is available to one program per person.
And don’t worry, the clock does not start ticking until you have your machine and you have your account. BrewUnlimited starts when you receive, and register your Pico unit and activate your plan from your account. If your machine breaks just let us know, and we will stop the clock while we repair it for you.Last updated:
No, the BrewUnlimited program is per user account and is not for retail or commercial use. This means BrewUnlimited cannot be sold or transferred to another user.Last updated:
Sous Vide is a popular gourmet cooking technique that is further simplified when done with the Pico Model C. It is done by utilizing the food of your choice, sealing the food inside a bag that is later submerged under water and cooked at low temperatures over some time dependent on the selection of the meat you have chosen. Food cooked in this way is amazingly tender and can be thoroughly infused with other flavors included in the bag. Sous Vide is included with the Pico Model C so no need for an adapter. There are some sample basic Sous vide recipes in the online manual, however many online sites can provide you with additional information and recipes about Sous Vide cooking.
While vacuum sealers may help for some types of foods, it is not required. Careful use of heavy duty zip lock baggies works great for most foods.
The water bath that food cooks in (the keg water) can be tap water. The water reservoir at the top of the machine is used to generate steam and should be distilled water. A gallon of distilled water in the top water reservoir will heat Sous Vide for several hours.Last updated:
Also known as the "tea of immortality", kombucha is a delicious and healthy fermented tea packed with probiotics. Drinking kombucha regularly is known to aide detoxification, digestion and result in more energy.
Due to live microbes present, Kombucha is not recommended for people with poor immune system, women who are pregnant or nursing, or children under 4 years of age.
There is no alcohol in kombucha.Last updated:
Yes. The Kombucha PicoPaks will work with all current Pico models.
We will initially offer 3 flavors:
- Ginger Malt
- Lemon Malt
- Classic Lemon (Gluten Free)Last updated:
From start to finish, it takes about a week to brew a batch of kombucha. Each kombucha PicoPak will brew 5 Liters.Last updated:
Yes, you will need to have a SCOBY which can be purchased from a 3rd party provider. We recommend PoseyMom SCOBY which can be purchased from amazon.com.
SCOBY is an acronym and stands for Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast. A SCOBY is the living home for the bacteria and yeast that transform sweet tea into kombucha. You won't need a new SCOBY each time. With proper handling and storage, SCOBY's are reusable.Last updated:
Kombucha PicoPaks will cost between $14-$20 and will be included as part of BrewUnlimited. The average shelf life of Kombucha PicoPaks is one year.Last updated:
White Labs Clarity Ferm is an enzyme used to prevent chill haze and produce reduced levels of gluten in beers made from barley and wheat. Add Clarity Ferm to your cooled wort when pitching yeast.
Beers treated with Clarity Ferm test below 20 ppm of gluten when used correctly, which is below the FDA's criteria for labeling a food as gluten free. Depending on your sensitivity to gluten, this reduction may or may not meet your dietary needs.Last updated:
Clarity Ferm will be available on the BrewMarketplace and an option at checkout for all PicoPaks. It can be used with all types of malted barley and other raw ingredients. As for the amount, 10mL of Clarity Ferm is enough to treat one 5 gallon batch of beer. If brewing with the Pico or Pico Model C, we recommend adding around 3.5ml to your brew keg at fermentation.
You should store Clarity Ferm at 39.2-46.4⁰F (4-8⁰C). If properly stored, it can last up to 12 months.Last updated:
The PicoStill was designed to produce essential oils from the humulus lupulus plant family (hops) either in pellet or in flower form, and as such, using it to produce hop-oil, a non-alcoholic product, is qualified as a “legal use” under U.S. federal law. (The laws of individual states, as well as the laws of other countries, may be different and may prohibit any use of a still. You should check the relevant laws where you live.)
Even under U.S. federal law, the production of spirits without appropriate licenses/permits is not qualified as a “legal use.” Compliance with local, regional, and national laws is ultimately the responsibility of the PicoStill owner. You should also be aware that, whenever they want, the authorities charged with enforcing U.S. federal law may order us to notify them of the names and addresses of PicoStill customers before completing any future shipments.Last updated:
The PicoStill was designed specifically to produce essential oils from the humulus lupulus plant family (hops) either in pellet or in flower form. Like most distillation units, it can also distill water. For PicoBrew Pico customers, this means you can be like Jim and achieve your own amazing hop flavors and aromas in your craft beers. And of course, you can use your PicoStill to follow PicoBrew’s recommendation that you produce your beer using pure distilled water for best results.
PicoStill is, of course, also capable of producing distilled spirits, but users of the product are cautioned to be aware of and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Appropriately licensed craft distillers may use PicoStill to produce small pilot runs of whiskey, vodka, bourbon, etc. in a manner similar to the way hundreds of craft breweries around the world use PicoBrew’s Zymatic to product pilot batches of beer.Last updated:
Water-extraction hop oils can be produced by the PicoStill in about 2 hours by simply filling a Pico’s water reservoir and the PicoStill keg with water, adding hop oil or hop pellets to the Hop Basket in the PicoStill, and running the “Still” program on the Pico. Approximately 2oz of hop oils will drip into the collection vessel.Last updated:
A licensed and properly permitted user can use a PicoStill to produce the same types of alcohol that can be produced with a normal still: neutral spirits (vodka), whiskey, bourbon, moonshine, gin. PicoStill was designed with safety in mind (patents pending) so that the dangers inherent in heating alcohol vapor and from methanol production are substantially reduced. Many great craft breweries with proper licenses and permits, like Rogue, are now making craft whiskies and other spirits by distilling their refined mashes. Using commercial PicoBrew equipment to create these pilot batch mashes and then PicoStill to distill them is a way to leverage PicoBrew small-batch pilot equipment efficiently at licensed craft distilleries. A licensed distiller can produce approximately 500 ml of distilled alcohol from 5L source.Last updated:
Yes, since Pico Model S can be adapted to use a Pico C keg upon which PicoStill is based, PicoStill can work with the Pico Model S. Since Zymatic can be adapted to use a Pico C keg upon which PicoStill is based, PicoStill can work with the Zymatic. Both the Pico Model S and Zymatic will require firmware upgrades to work with the PicoStill accessory.Last updated:
PicoFerm is a web-connected fermentation monitor that makes the process of monitoring a beer’s fermentation progress as simple as opening an app on your phone. Using patent-pending technology, PicoFerm monitors the fermenting beer and sends a precise forecast of when the beer will be ready to drink to the free BrewPulse app. It will also send tips on how to improve fermentation to the app, such as suggesting temperature changes to speed up the fermentation process, and will warn you if it detects any problems.
How is PicoFerm used?
The sleek round monitor snaps on to the top of the Pico Model C Keg. There are no wires to connect and nothing to clean or sterilize because PicoFerm doesn’t ever touch the beer. Brewers just switch it on when they are ready to ferment and sync it with the BrewPulse app.
Will the PicoFerm be available as an add-on?
The PicoFerm Bundle add-on includes 2 PicoFerm monitors for $100 + shipping.
Will the PicoFerm work with ball lock kegs?
At this time, PicoFerm works only with the Pico C Brew Keg. We will be offering options for ball lock kegs in the future.
Will the PicoFerm work with a Pico S?
Yes, but PicoFerm requires a Pico C Brew Keg. The Pico S user will need to order a Pico C Brew Keg as is included in the Keg Bundle or BrewUnlimited add-ons.
I bought a BrewUnlimited , do I need anything else to use PicoFerm?
Nope, assuming you also have any Pico (S or C) you are good to go. The BrewUnlimited service offerings come with a Free Pico C Brew Keg that is compatible with PicoFerm.
What is the MSRP of PicoFerm?
PicoFerm will retail for $89 USD when it hits stores in the Fall, but Kickstarter backers who pledge at least $250 will receive one for free, assuming PicoBrew hits their final $1.812M Stretch Goal target.
Will PicoFerm work with fast fermentation ?
Yes, PicoFerm has been designed for the Pico C Brew Keg which supports fast fermentation only.
Does the PicoFerm work based on the tilt meter or CO2 off-gassing?
PicoFerm does not use the tilt meter. PicoFerm contains patent-pending sensors and algorithms which will accurately monitor fermentation progress without touching the beer.
Will the BrewPulse app work with multiple PicoFerms?
Yes, the BrewPulse app will support any number of concurrent Pico sessions at any stage of the brewing cycle.
I bought 12 month BrewUnlimited, will I get PicoFerm?
Yes, if we hit the final $1.812M Stretch Goal target then all backers who pledge $250 or more will receive a free PicoFerm.
What if I want more than one PicoFerm for multiple kegs?
You can add on the $100 PicoFerm Bundle to your pledge! PicoFerm will also be available for $89 USD in the PicoBrew.com BrewGear online store in the Fall timeframe.
I pledged $250 or more after shipping, will I still get a PicoFerm?
Yes, if we hit the final $1.812M Stretch Goal target then all backers who pledge $250 or more (including shipping costs in their pledge) will receive a free PicoFerm.Last updated:
