Hailed by The New York Times as "the best contemporary summer festival in the country," TBA was started in 2003 by our founding director, Kristy Edmunds. Since then, TBA continually champions adventurous new work by the world's most visionary experimental artists.
TBA is a galvanizing force for the contemporary art scene in Portland ... and beyond. This past year, TBA brought over 26,000 people to experience the work of more than 200 international artists in over 50 performances and numerous exhibitions, lectures and workshops for 10 days of non-stop time-based art! In 2014 - we're gonna do it bigger and better than ever!
PICA's mission is to support artists! PICA supports the experiments of artists working at the intersection of forms and at the edge of new ideas. We commission, produce, and offer creative time all in the name of their work.
“PICA is one of my favorite institutions in America. PICA is lightweight, flexible, it can respond to artists and works unlike other institutions … it’s very clear what this festival means to Portland. “ - Emily Roysdon; TBA Festival 2013
Yet with all that we do, PICA is at a critical point financially. While the rest of the country is gradually recovering from the recession, the arts are still slower on the climb, as confirmed by a recent American for the Arts report.
That's not what PICA wants and that's not what YOU want. This is where you come in. For 30 days, PICA is launching its first ever Kickstarter campaign to help raise $25,000 in support of the 2014 Time-Based Art Festival!
Our resourcefulness and resilience are what make PICA stand out from the rest. Every dollar you give counts because PICA ensures that it is used to push artistic voices that would otherwise go unheard!
With your support, PICA will bring more forward-thinking programming, more artist-driven public talks, more fun (free) late-night jams, more more more ... because without you, what's the point?
If you have found inspiration from our programming, if you have had a transformative experience with us as an artist or audience member, if you have met the love of your life at TBA, if the work we do has challenged and provoked you, if we have comped you a ticket or bought you a drink in the Beer Garden after a show, now is the time you can give back.
A few awesome facts about our where your dollars go:
• All TBA Festival Visual Exhibitions, our opening night performance, chats, and lectures are free to the public. 12,779 audiences attended free TBA Festival programming in 2013!
• 70% of the total festival budget goes directly to programming (paying artists, production costs, housing and travel) and only 20% of festival revenue comes from ticket sales. We rely on grants, businesses and individuals (like you!) so that we can offer low-price tickets, free programs and show work from emerging as well as more established artists.
• We present US and World Premieres. There were 14 commissioned projects presented in TBA:13 alone!
TBA:14 needs you! Show your support today!
NOTE: Your contribution(s) may be tax-deductible. The tax deduction is limited to the excess of your contribution over the value of items or services you received. For your tax purposes, PICA’s tax ID number is #93-1177971.
