*Note - I will ship anywhere in the world!
In order for you to fully understand what you will be backing, the following description is necessary, because the jewelry I want to create is more than just something to look at it. It is more than just a tangible object. Thank you for reading, and for understanding. Thank you for your support.
I am an artist.
I have had, and still have, many passions in my life. Animals, astronomy, poetry, people. Only one has remained a constant from as far back as I can remember. Only one has never left, faded, or faltered - the need to create. As a child, I used to dig deep into the soft Louisiana ground to find clay. From that clay I would find my first experience in sculpting and working with my hands. Later, my father would introduce me to leather working. Later still, I would begin to hone my drawing skills. Branching from that came painting, more sculpting, wax work, and many, many more. For most of my life, I've been searching. Searching for a medium and an outlet for the need to create something beautiful. Time and again, especially in times of stress and frustration, I would have the urge to use my hands, my body, to express what was toiling inside of me.
Recently, after finding my husband and transferring to Fort Bliss, I began life as a stay-at-home Mom. Always working outside the home before this, I had the itch to make my own way. So I began my artistic endeavors once more to try and make a small living. I began with resin, which led to mold making, which led to polymer clay, which has led to silver clay (a.k.a Art Clay or PMC).
All of my life I've had a spiritual connection to....well...everything. I've always felt it, even if I didn't understand it. I whole-heartedly believe that we humans are a miniscule part of a massive picture. A work of art and spirituality that we cannot even begin to imagine. Scientists and Theists alike have tapped into this...through chemicals, DMT, religion and prayer. I am content as I am - not understanding, only feeling. This feeling is the root of my creative need. I've always had a fascination for stones. Crystals and gemstones that have healing or other spiritual properties. Herbs that cure ailments and aid health. Meditation that brings us closer to the connection of the world around us and the spiritual planes beyond. I have always had the desire to create art that would strengthen this connection, and enlighten the mind. But we are humans. We are here on this earth, and we must be a part of it in material ways. Nothing I created seemed to be able to reach people in a way that they could carry with them. A painting sits on a wall, a sculpture on a desk. But jewelry....
A little over a year ago, all my endeavors seemed to focus around jewelry. I didn't know why. I don't even really wear much jewelry. Only very special pieces. I thought it was because it was popular, and I could make money. I thought it would be something easy to start. Recently I've come to realize this was not the case. Jewelry is something you wear, take with you wherever you want, and lays against the skin at all times while worn. I've been partial to strong jewelry. Pieces I could wear daily, never taking it off for months at a time. All of my previous mediums did not allow such strenuous wear. Polymer clay was favorite, but it just didn't hold up like I needed it to. Then I discovered silver clay. A medium that allows me to sculpt and shape, to mold and form - and then fire into a precious metal strong enough to withstand everyday wear. Finally, I have discovered something that is wholly me. My art, my creativity coming through my hands, into my work, and onto my body.
The Final Goal
I now have an artistic medium that ends my search, creates an outlet, and allows me to tap into the connection of my spirit and the world around me. Around us. I want to spread this enlightenment. I want to bring something into the world that will allow others to tap into the connection. That will remind us that we are alive in more ways than just our body functioning. That will bind others in a way to let them never forget that they are not alone. My line of jewelry will be completely natural, using metals of the earth, and stones that will aid our mental capacities. Every single piece will be completely unique. None will be reproduced, and each will be the art and soul that I've carried within my self all of my life. An expression of what I feel this life can bring, and where it will lead when it ends.
All of my previous experience with different mediums will play a role in the creation of each piece. My skills in sculpting, glass, wax, wire and others will be used to make my pieces truly unique and beautiful. They will add color and personality to an already-beautiful metal.
am not a famous jewelry designer. I am a person. I am a mother, a
sister, a wife. I have a home, a family, I am normal, average. But I am
also an artist. I am a person with a goal inside of her that aches to
reach beyond the limits of the body. To embolden itself, to manifest as a
tangible work of art that can reach, touch, and enlighten others. This
is where your funding will go. It will help me acquire the necessary
equipment, tools, and supplies to finally allow this desire to escape
into the world. It will allow me to promote my art, so it can reach
everyone who has the spiritual need to hold on to their connection. It
will take time. No piece will be rushed. They will all have spirit, heart, soul. They will be special, unique, and with purpose. This is the Connectivity line.
The Connectivity Line
Using PMC, or Art Clay, I will be making .999 silver, .925 silver, Copper, Brass, and Gold jewelry. This jewelry will be art, and expression. Every piece will be completely one of a kind. Every piece will be a manifestation of feeling, emotion, and spirituality. Spirals will be predominant in almost all of the pieces. Spirals symbolize the connection to ourselves, and to something greater than ourselves. Some pieces will include stones of healing, of enlightenment, of grounding. All will be special. There will be rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets....all will be meant to be worn, touched, held, loved. They will be strong, they will be memorable, and they will be a reminder to us all that there is something beneath the surface of this world that we are connected to, and so is connected to us. The Connectivity of life.
Where Your Funding Will Go
The money I raise here will go toward the following requirements:
Molding/Stamping Supplies - In order to ensure quality, bold designs in my work, I will require the materials to create my own silicone stamps. Buying pre-made design stamps would destroy the work, and perpetuate mundane, mass-produced pieces. They must by my designs, and mine alone. I will draw them by hand, scan them, edit them using special imaging software and a PC drawing tablet to make them able to be created into one of a kind stamps that will be found nowhere else.
Shipping Supplies, Findings, and Artistic Tools - While I have built up quite a collection of tools and supplies, they are not all I will need to make this project a successful reality. The padded envelopes and printed labels will not be enough to fully incorporate my work into the world. I will need jewelry boxes, with sufficient protection, to ensure nothing terrible befalls my work during the shipping process. I will also need good, quality findings to complete each piece. Findings made of the same, if not stronger material to ensure durable wear. Findings like chains, bails, earring posts, and clasps. These are essential to ensuring your jewelry stands up to the test of time. Artistic tools such as sculptor's tools, anvils, hammers, tongs will be needed. As of now, I make my own tools. While this is sufficient for my current productions, this project will require that I have good, professional tools at my disposal. Tools that will not break, bend, or wear. In order to create quality items worth the backing of this project, I will need the proper supplies.
The Clay - I will need to purchase large quantities of metal clay. This is the medium. THE medium. The one I've been looking for. The answer to the main idea of wearable art. The way to hold that art against the body, and channel its meaning into your mind, body, and spirit. Metal clay can get a little costly. It is pure metal (silver, bronze, gold, or copper) in powder form, mixed in with a proprietary organic binder. When fired, this binder burns away, leaving nothing but the beautiful metal behind. This is how I will be able to convey my creativity into jewelry. This is my heart.
Keep track of updates in my blog on WordPress. While I will be updating on the project itself, I will also be writing about my ideas and personal opinions. Get to know me, and you will be able to better understand my work, my life, and my art.
THANK YOU!Thank you to everyone who took the time to look over my project, even if you did not back it. My goal here is to reach people. If I could get by doing this for free, I would. Unfortunately, the world demands an income, and in order to continue putting my artwork out into the world, I will need your help to fund it. Once I get started, my work will be priced to ONLY cover time, materials, and effort. I am not looking to become rich or famous. I only want to live with necessities, and have my work reach the people that most need it. With your help, I may be able to do just that. Thank you, again
