4089 is all of those things & more!
You'll be able to battle & sneak through a huge procedurally designed ship. Hack cameras & locked doors. Build walls for cover. Break down secret walls to discover new paths. Choose whether you are playing for the full adventure, or just a quick challenge. Edit or create your own rooms, enemies, weapons, textures, models & sounds, then share them with the world!
Customize Your Character
Throughout the game, you'll get items that unlock "stat points" & upgrade your weapons. "Stat points" can be spent in these areas:
- Health: increases your ability to take a beating.
- Damage: destroy your enemies faster.
- Energy: stronger weapons need lots of juice to fire.
- Engineering: Better hacking & unlocks construction options.
- Stealth: Quieter movement, invisibility & target tracking.
- Agility: Faster movement, double jump & time warping.
Weapon upgrades include things like leeching health from enemies, silencing, explosive projectiles & charging.
How the World is Generated
Think of 4089's ship like it is a big Lego brick construction, with each Lego brick being a room in the ship. Individual rooms are first hand-crafted by us and optionally by players like you. The world generator then automatically connects those rooms together, rotating and flipping them as needed, to make something different every time you play. Ships will already be unique just with the base content, but imagine the possibilities when the community starts creating & sharing their own creations!
The world is intelligently populated with items, enemies, security cameras & more, including any of those you've added or modified!
Create Your Own Content
All modifiable content, such as rooms, robots & items are defined in text files & stored in their respective folders. You can tweak values, change models, textures and more, all with your favorite text editor. Creating a new room, enemy or weapon is as simple as making a copy of an existing text file and then editing it. To use your own textures or models, you must first place them in the “Textures” & “Models” folders before referring to them in text files.
We desire a more advanced & integrated editor, with more automated ways to share content, but we are focusing on creating the core game first. However, you may be surprised how easy it is to get started and share things already!
Oculus Rift support
4089 is being designed from the start to support the Oculus Rift. Menus & the heads-up display will look good and operate as expected both with and without an Oculus Rift. Options will be included, like turn snapping & slowed movement, to make 4089 more comfortable for sensitive users.
4089 will also support controllers, like the XBox 360 controller. This way, you can play on your big screen TV, inside your Oculus Rift, or traditionally with a keyboard and mouse with ease!
A millennium has passed since the all-powerful supercomputer, known as the Overlord, conquered planet Xax in 3089. That entire planet was transformed into a playground for relentless experiments on robotic soldiers. The year is now 4089... the Overlord's mothership has begun to orbit the majestic, purple planet known as Zehra. The aquatic Humoids and beastly Neanders native to Zehra have lived in harmony since the end of the Great War of 3079. Could the Overlord's presence threaten everything they've worked so hard to achieve? Zehra is counting on you, a self-aware robot of their creation, to investigate the mothership... What are the Overlord's plans? Do you side with Zehra, the Overlord, or find your own path?
4089 & the prequels, 3079 & 3089
4089 combines the story of these two prequels, so please consider checking them out if you want to experience it all!
All of the games in this series are futuristic action role-playing games, but each one is significantly different than the last: no rehashes here. 3079 was the first commercial game of the series. It has Minecraft-esque visuals and gameplay similar to Borderlands. 3089 featured smooth terrain, more powerful events and abilities, like meteor showers & time ripping.

Supporting 4089 doesn't just result in a better game, it helps other games supporting the Oculus Rift get better too. 4089 is the driving force behind our contributions to the Oculus Rift library for the otherwise complete 3D engine called jMonkeyEngine. We believe there should be a fast, cross platform, reliable, free & open source option available to everyone to develop new Oculus Rift applications; help make that happen here!
We've decided to focus on developing a core, solid gaming experience first. We do not want to rule any features out as a result of goals not being met, nor do we want to delay 4089 to meet reached but non-essential goals. KickStarter themselves recommends against setting stretch goals for good reason.
This project started without a demo, but as development continued, a demo was able to be put together after receiving positive feedback from early builds. Remember, this is very early software and not all current content is in the demo -- it is merely a glimpse into what currently exists and what we are building on.

$3,000? That's not much.
No, it isn't. However, we are very serious about making this promising game even with a limited budget. Of course, exceeding this goal will be mutually beneficial: we'll be able to devote more time to doing what we love & prepare more content for you at release.
