Why a tiny cookbook?
This tiny story of a tiny cookbook about tiny food is a reminder that the little things are the things that matter.
Our lives are made up of bite-sized moments. Bites make up a meal, 3 meals become a day, days become our lives. Food is the one thing we all have in common. Food is a shared experience, it’s how we celebrate. Food is life.
Besides, tiny is novel. Tiny is eco-friendly. Tiny things are just CUTER. In fact, this MIGHT be the smallest cookbook in the world. The Bite-Sized Book of Bite-Sized Recipes fits in the palm of your hand at just under 2 inches tall, with 20 fun, easy to make bite-sized recipes with cute & clever photography.
I’ve been cooking since I was 10, maybe even before that. When I was little, I used to think up recipes every night before falling asleep. My first job was in a restaurant. I loved it so much, I stayed for 7 years before starting photography. My whole life revolves around food. I’m always experimenting in the kitchen, gifting food to friends, talking about the latest restaurant and my favorite farmer’s market finds.
On the flip side, I’ve been a food photographer for over a decade. My photography business, Photo Kitchen, was created from my love of food and photography. There is no formula for the perfect photo. But there is a recipe. The spark of an idea, drive and determination to make it happen, and help from others. I have a million ideas a day. Every once in a while an idea sticks with me and won’t let go. This cookbook is one of those ideas.
What does a tiny cookbook look like?
The Bite-Sized Book of Bite-Sized Recipes will be approximately 1 3/4 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches wide, 52 pages long and include 20 photos and recipes custom made for this book. They’re kid-friendly and easy to make—just cute, clever, tiny foods that are fun to eat and taste good.
The craft-colored softcover books are made from thick 140# French cover weight with a dark brown letterpress design (preview below) printed by local company Igloo Letterpress in Columbus, Ohio. The interior pages (sourced through Print Solutions Today) are 80# silk paper for a mildly glossy, durable finish. The necklaces and ornaments will be attached with a small ribbon inserted into the spine of the book.
Each book will come with a magnifying glass and a digital copy, making it easy to read for when you want to get cooking. Estimated delivery for all cookbooks is the first week in December.
Who would want a tiny cookbook of tiny recipes?
Kids with dollhouses who host teddy bear tea parties. Foodies. Cookbook collectors. Anyone who loves to eat, cook, or entertain. Minimalists. Lovers of tiny things. Librarians. Photographers. Cats. (Really, they do! My cats are proof.) It’s the perfect stocking stuffer and would make a unique birthday party theme with gift included.
Because there is no formula for a cookbook this small and there is no publisher who would take on this project without changing it. To have a fully customizable product down to the smallest detail, from the cover design to the size, the type of paper it's printed on, the recipes, the companies producing it...there's only one way to do it, and it's by self-publishing.
I wouldn’t be able to fund the production of this book alone. Your backing will help offset the expenses of prototypes, the first print run, studio rental, groceries, props, recipe testing, design work, and editing. $8,500 is the magic number to break even. Most importantly, Kickstarter is here to prove an idea SHOULD exist, because more than one person WANTS it to exist.
Can you help bring this tiny cookbook to life?
I can't do it without you! Make sure the mini cookbook becomes reality with a backing. No amount is too small. Know someone who'd love a tiny cookbook? Please send 'em our way. Thank you for sharing a passion for food and all things tiny!

Multiple Copies Within A Pledge Level
You may add to your pledge the extra cost of up to 9 copies of that pledge level. For example, if you would like 3 cookbooks, simply choose the $25 pledge level, then type in your pledge for $75.00. (Kickstarter has a 10 item per person limit.)
Rewards From Multiple Levels
Want the rewards from more than one pledge level? You may add on the cost for LOWER pledge levels to a HIGHER pledge level. Example: You select the $40 pledge level for the necklace but would also like to purchase the $40 ornament. Simply type in your pledge as $80.00. We will confirm with you after the campaign the details of which rewards you want for your pledge.
Note: Some levels have a limit to how many can be purchased. You can add unlimited pledge levels to limited levels, but you cannot add limited pledge levels to an unlimited pledge level as this would skew the limits of those pledges.
Questions? If you have any questions about pledge levels or rewards, please send us a message and we'll help!
Risks and challenges
Luckily, this project is already halfway in the making. All the printing details have been worked through, including the first prototype. The print schedule is on track, the extra items (necklaces, whisks) have been sourced, the post office has been consulted, the recipes and photo concepts are well in the works, the cover design is almost finalized, and the marketing plan has begun.
What could go wrong? Oh, plenty of things. A partner company could go out of business, items could get lost in the mail, the studio could become unavailable.... The scariest part is promising products to be available in time for the holidays. But I've dealt with things just like this a million times over since becoming a professional photographer. There are alternatives and workarounds. Everything always comes together in the end.
Nothing about this project is impossible. It's up to you to make it happen!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
