Update: No news

Hey guys!

I've just realised that our last update to you was in December... Which I admit is a very long gap between updates. So, since this is the year's first update via Kickstarter: Happy new year!

The main reason why we haven't posted any updates, is that there hasn't really been much that has been worth updating on; Production is frustratingly slow, and is being held back mostly by the LCD displays that had to be especially made for the Triggertrap, and the casings. The casings are due at our factory this month, but the LCD displays don't arrive until mid-March, which means that our current estimated shipping date remains 'April'

In the meantime, we have been keeping the Triggertrap site updated with various news and tidbits. Some highlights:

Sorry there isn't much exciting news to bring, but we're slogging away to bring you your Triggertraps - and we're as excited as you are to finally get to play with the final version!

      Hi Scott:

We're still where we were last month; the estimated shipping date is still April, and I'm expecting to find out in the next few days whether the LCD screens were delivered on schedule.

I'll do an update as soon as I have something to update :)

I’d agree that almost every product i’ve backed has run into these problems. with some products (like this) it is more understandable. with others (musicians) it seems less acceptable. I have a band i backed almost a year ago that still has yet to deliver their album!?!?!?

i can’t even imagine the amount of coordination between a bunch of vendors in different countries to try to manufacture something like this. not to mention the actual planning and design of the product itself. i get a headache just thinking about it.

I’d like to see any of the detractors try to do better.

While i was hoping for my triggertrap sooner than later, i’d rather have a well made product than a piece of crap rushed together.

Dear Haje, my name is Alessandro, not Allessandro.

I was completely aware that the product was not existing, and that should have rung an alarm in my head. You had no previous experience about whole process, and you can't be blamed for this. But that doesn't mean that you cannot do your homework and contact the manufacturers prior getting the money.

My point is that this are my opinions. I am not telling you how to run your business, I am only losing
      confidence in your abilities.

For your information this is more than an appropriate forum, where all the other backer can see how passionate your answers are.

I hope to receive a beautiful and complete product, somewhere before 2015.

This isn't a "No News" update -- this update tells me that you are still working on this, that you care enough about your backers to keep us updated, and that you are still working on secondary tasks (like updating the manual) while you wait for the parts to arrive. So there is plenty of news in this update.

I also note that you're doing this as an open-source project -- a great way to allow others to share in the success of your hard work. Have you posted the open source plans and/or code yet?

Wow, as a pledger for over 20 products so far, I can say this much - unless an order for 1M units is raised, one cannot force a manufacturer to a schedule; you make do with what you're given. One does not have any power, all the projects I backed faced similar production issues.

I was hoping on getting a product a long time ago, but instead of off-the-shelf home DIY style built product, I'll be getting a totally sexy unit that will go on the road / airplane with me and will outlast my current camera equipment. IOW, longer wait for a superior product.

All I can add, is when appropriate, that we can buy an extra unit or two, at our pledge price, before being forced to buy at "retail".

      Dear Allesandro,

Thank you for your insightful comment.

To address your points: As you can see from the article linked above, they can give and have given me an estimation of when we get the LCDs: It is mid-March.

I did receive the money up front, but as you knew when you paid for the product, the device didn't actually exist yet, and I have never created anything like this before in my life, so we ran into some problems. Regrettable, but unfortunately unavoidable.

As for a scam: Given that I'm currently several thousand dollars out of pocket, I would have to be the worst scam artist in the world.

Finally; I would like to welcome your suggestions for how to run my business in a more appropriate forum.

      Thank you for your help,

      ~ Haje

I just can't believe that the part providers cannot give you an estimation of the shipping or takes them all this time to ship LCDs. How do you conduct your business? You received the money upfront and you had the power to contract a specific date. You had the power to select different manufacturers to order but you chose the one who is ruining your business.

I am starting thinking this is a scam. It's ridiculous.
