Phonejoy Game Discovery App Released

While we are still waiting for the factories in Shenzhen to open up shop in two weeks again, we have some positive news to share!

iOS App

Our iPhone app has finally been approved by Apple and the Phonejoy app is now available on the App Store. It will give you a good idea about games that are compatible with iCade as well as the new MFi Game Controller Standard. Apart from that, we'd appreciate if you could already have a peek at it and give us some valuable feedback, so that by the time we ship it will do all the most important things you'd like to see.

Android App

As promised we are launching the Phonejoy app on Android as a beta. The Android app will have some advanced functionalities as it can actually talk with your Phonejoy, therefore it's been taking us a little longer than the iOS app to develop. Nevertheless, it does already everything that the iOS app does and much more will follow. If you want to test-drive our Android app. Please send us a message on Kickstarter or via, and we'll send you an invitation to the beta group.

After two months of absence, we have resurrected the forums on This time your forum account will be completely integrated with your account (which also allows you to view your shipping information). If you have any troubles logging in, just send us an email.

What's Next?

Later next week we'll post an unboxing video that will show you all the things that you will find in your Phonejoy box when it arrives. :)

In two weeks then production in China will resume, and we are firmly planning on showcasing additional behind-the-scenes videos and photos of the process. Meanwhile, we haven't forgotten about the MFi version, we are in the process of resubmitting our revised design to Apple in hopes that they will approve it.

@Yakamoneye While could certainly need some extra cash, we hold it for utmost important to keep the app uninfluenced by game developers. All featured games are nothing but staff picks from us.

      Hello PhoneJoy team!
I've read in a french press article that your app might be sponsored by developers of presented games in the iOS app. That's not true, isn't it? The app has been funded by the kickstarter pledges right?
Btw, I like the design of the app! ;)

@Kathy Indeed, our OEM partner estimates to have the first batch of 500 units ready by February 20. They will start with the printed circuit board assembly next week. As always we'll keep you posted on the progress. Fingers crossed that everything will go smoothly this one time!

@Chris, Unfortunately we are under NDA with Apple and cannot disclose much about the details of our application. All, I can say, is that Apple has certain guidelines for material being used, buttons (size, number, labeling) and firmware requirements that absolutely needs to be used for us to pass the first approval stage. A lot of those things had already been set in stone for us by last summer, so they need to be now adjusted in order to pass.

Looks great. Really looking forward to the MFi controller. Out of interest, what hve been the issues with MFi and Apple? are they just being arsey or is it genuine hardware/software concerns?
