HOWL (previously known as "An Invitation to be seen: Nous Territoris") is a structured and developed improvisation that explores our understandings of territory. The work-in-progress expands the common ground and illuminates the vague, undefined, unlimited and ephemeral that co-exists with the limits of territory. The project HOWL has discovered the necessity of territory as what enables expansion, rather than dissipation, of creativity. Without our conceptions of territory creativity can weaken and ultimately be undermined. This piece is always formatted in a specific method developed by Phoebe Osborne, Andrea Vincente and Carola Oritz during their residency together last fall: 10 minutes of silence, 10 minutes of vocal sound, and 30 minutes of collaborative improvisation. The practice involves a live, spontaneous investigation of territory where music, movement and set design are constantly being shifted to discover the dreamlike landscapes of collaborative boundaries. This performance is an invitation to witness our live collaboration; our spontaneous painting of new territories.
Three artists from different disciplines who met in a residency of NodesCartisRes2011 in Gracia, Barcelona. Carola Oritz (Catalonia), a musician, Andrea Vicente (Catalonia), a visual artist and mover, Phoebe Osborne (California/UK) have found a pracitice of improvisation based in two concepts: inviting the experience of been seen and exploring territory. Currently they have invited two movement-based performers, Urša Sekirnik (Slovenia) and Joana Serra (Catalonia) to practice and perform with them.
The project is has now been invited to tour in California with performances and workshops in San Diego, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco during August and September 2012. Unfortunately these invitations do not cover travel costs. We currently need at least $5,000 to fund the cost of our transatlantic flights. We are excited by this fantastic opportunity to share our work with California. Please participate in making this happen- the benefits are grand!
