PhiLOCK. The connected lock that lets you share your bike in one click.
Biking is one of the key factors of smart mobility in cities around the world. It’s good for your health, the environment, and traffic. That’s why huge efforts have been made to promote biking in recent years: More bike lanes, more parking areas... It’s great! But some challenges still exist that prevent many people from biking.
First, not everyone owns a bike. And it's crazy to see so many unused bikes when so many people would prefer riding them instead of being stuck in traffic jam or taking the subway. The other major challenge for cyclists is theft. In NYC for example, more than 10,000 bikes are stolen every month. It’s not only a the huge loss for cyclists, but it causes 20% of victims to stop cycling!
We at PhiLOCK want to change this. That’s why we developed a new connected lock that makes protecting your bike more secure and more convenient than ever. Plus, PhiLOCK lets you rent your bike in just one click.
PhiLOCK is a fully integrated solution composed of a lock and a mobile app.
The Connected Lock is made of 3 components:
• A smart alarm, embedded with multiple electronic sensors, that stands guard against theft. It connects with smartphones or smartwatches via Bluetooth to authenticate users.
• A strong alloy encasing that protects the system from outside threats. Nearly unbreakable, it is state-of-the-art armor in a sleek design.
• The security cable is made of stainless steel and can be attached to the lock to prevent removal of the bike, making for a complete security solution. With a dual opening, your bike can be secured on the right or left side. You can even remove it and store it in your bag while riding.
Once PhiLOCK is installed, you can choose if/when you want to rent your bike. To do so, you just activate the “renting” option via the app and your bike will appear on the map, ready for users to rent. Through the app you can also customize your rental with multiple options: Price and dates of availability, place of return, and provide information on your bike to users: Size, accessories, etc.
That's it! No more exchanging keys, collecting payments, or worrying about security. PhiLOCK takes care of it all.
PhiLOCK application will be soon on iOS (iPhone 4S - iOS 9) and Android (4.3 and later).
How does it work?
It all starts with security. PhiLOCK’s unique design features a new connected lock that fits with any type of bike, preventing against theft through the dual alarm and security cable system. Cast in its reinforced alloy fixation, the system stands guard, ensuring that no unauthorized person moves your bike: If PhiLOCK doesn’t recognize a user, the security cable will always stay locked and the alarm will sound until the movement stops. And with its innovative, super-resistant case, thieves can not detach it from the bike.
PhiLOCK’s easy installation takes less than 2 minutes for set up. It’s also easy to use, because there’s no need for a key or code. The system automatically recognizes users through their smartphone or smartwatch. And of course, renting is optional. You can use the connected lock for your own security.

Why we need your support
So far we have been working closely with the design agency to help us create the system and reinforced case. Numerous rounds of prototyping have already been performed and shown great results.
Now we need your support to adapt and improve everything and make it ready for mass-production. We also need to review the app to make it easy to use for renting and securing payments.
We want everyone to enjoy care-free riding, so please support our mission to deliver tomorrow's best piece of shared-mobility.
Risks and challenges
Even if we are working with top manufacturers and we really trust them, we know that production's process is not a bed of roses and it uses to cause delays in that kind of project.
Another risk we are facing is the delay due to CE certification & FCC. The manufacturers we are working with have already worked on that type of connected devices, but the process is never easy.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
