"Phish is celebrating our 30th Anniversary and we're talking about how lucky we feel to be part of such a loving community, and that means the audience as well as the band members" - Trey Anastasio
Thanks for visiting the "WE'VE GOT IT SIMPLE" Kickstarter!
We are so excited to begin production on this film. For those who haven't heard about the film yet, "We've Got It Simple" is a documentary about Phish fans, made by Phish fans, and will ultimately serve as a Gift from the fans to the band. Every aspect of the film will focus on the collective whole of Phish fans. From photos and videos, graphics and titles, storyboard art and animations, all created and submitted by the fans. In fact, even the title was one of ten potential titles submitted by fans via social media and voted on by over 5000 fans thanks to Surrender to the Flow and PhanArt. "We've Got It Simple" was the run away winner taking over 75% of the first place votes!
The film and its unique structure will allow us to tell the true story of us, the fans, and the unique and artistic sub-culture world that we have created. Beginning in the early years in Vermont and continuing through the 30th anniversary year, "We've Got It Simple" will allow us to celebrate our community and tell our story from the inside, while exposing the most unique and eclectic fan-base in music to those who may not be as familiar.
Perhaps the most important part of this film is that although Philly Philms is the production studio putting this film together, the author of the film will be all of YOU! We have been gathering and will continue to take submissions of photos, videos, stories and even graphics, art work, posters etc. Just about anything you could think of that is Phish fan related, that you would like to contribute to this film, WE WANT! Remember, this is your film too! We have some amazing fan created and band inspired art that will be used for both the kickstarter rewards as well as in the film that includes work from the top artists in the scene! But that is not nearly enough, we still need you!
SO WHY ARE WE MAKING THIS FILM?
I am the writer/director of the film, but more importantly a Phish fan since the early 90's. Phish has changed my life in many positive ways, including sculpting and developing me into the filmmaker I have become. Making this film is important to me, and I am proud to be the one to direct it.
Having said that, I am still an indie filmmaker and Philly Philms, if you are unfamiliar with us, is an ultra-small production company that consists of just two employees. Myself and Kelly Wood Jobes, our rockstar producer! But that's it. Making films on the indie level, especially ones that are in such a niche market as Phish is not only difficult but near impossible without the help of community support. So we've brought our film to kickstarter and thank you in advance for your support!
What we have to offer is not only a chance for you to become a part of the film and the story of the fans, but also part of our collective gift to the band, showing them from our point of view the world in which their music has created for us.
WHAT REWARDS HAVE WE CREATED IN EXCHANGE FOR YOUR SUPPORT?
If there is one vibe that flows through the Phish scene, it's the sense of a give and a take, from veggie burritos and bottled water to art work and free tickets, I have seen just about every sort of barter imaginable on the lot and we hope to create that same vibe here with this Kickstarter and our reward levels.
So to entice you to help us make this film, we have designed a ton of cool rewards and even named each of them after a fitting Phish song. The rewards range from the most basic level of support which you can take advantage of for about the cost of a tasty sandwich, all the way up to reward levels that include VIP Premiere Parties for the film, becoming one of the film's producers or tattooing whatever you like (within good taste) on my currently "tattoo-less body"
MY FRIEND - MY FRIEND REWARD
In between these two extremes of cool rewards, we have some solid mid-range options including the "My Friend, My Friend" reward which is at the Kickstarter "sweet-spot" of $50 and we named it "My Friend, My Friend" because this is the reward level we "HOPE" our personal friends come in at. In fact, if just 20% of our Facebook friends took advantage of this level our film would be fully funded!
WHAT ARE THE "PHANART" REWARDS?
Lastly, I must admit I am probably the most excited for the "PhanArt Rewards" because I have always had an attraction to fan created and band inspired art. Specifically in the form of posters and pins which tend to dominate the underground art scene and are inspired by the band and their music. Our goal with these rewards was to have the top poster and pin artists create work in the theme of the fans for a change, as opposed to in the theme of the band. What is unique is that we will use this art to not only fund the film via kickstarter, but also kickback to the artists that made them!
There will be a MEGA PIN REWARD and our OFFICIAL MOVIE POSTER REWARD added mid-way through the campaign and although we can't divulge the artists involved just yet, you will flip your wig if pins or posters are your thing!
I'm absolutely fascinated by the idea that artists would create art that is about the fans, which would then be purchased by those fans to help fund a film which is about those fans which is actually being made by those fans. I can't think of a more cyclical form of artistic creation than this nor can I think of an example where this has been done before. Literally, this is set up to be a fully crowd-sourced film in both it's funding and production as well as its content and creation, flipping typical crowd sourcing expectations upside down!
WHAT IF I AM NOT A PHISH FAN?
And of course, we realize that not everyone are fans of Phish or their music. This is understandable as there are few things in the world as subjective as music is. The good thing is that this film is not about Phish or their music, rather the world that their fans live in, which I think if you are unfamiliar with, will find quite fascinating. It is imperative that we have the support of "Non-Phish Fans" in order for this Kickstarter campaign to be a success so we have a few support levels that have "Non-Phishy Rewards" if that is your thing :)
So we hope that you believe enough in us as filmmakers and this project itself to become one of our Backers! Although it is very cliche, saying we can't make this film without you in a huge understatement. Not only with your support financially but also and maybe more importantly, your support creatively. We want as much input and participation from the fans as possible to ensure this is a true collaboration by the collective whole. Remember, this is your film too!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, SHARE THIS VIDEO LINK EVERYWHERE!
Regardless of your participation in this Kickstarter campaign, There is no better way to get the word out than to get the word out! A simple share on social media with a note to just "give us a look" can make a huge difference with everyone behind it so please consider helping us spread the word.
Thank you in advance for all your help and support with this film. We sincerely appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. Whatever you do, take care of your shoes.

Risks and challenges
With any artistic endeavor, there are and will always be risks and challenges associated with it, especially in the world of feature film production. While these are unavoidable, we feel confident in not allowing them to effect the film nor our timeline to get onto the big screen!
Having previously produced, directed and distributed a feature film, (Beeradelphia) we feel confident that we have a production template in place that will ensure the success of "We've Got It Simple."
However there are ALWAYS issues that arise when making a film that can not be foreseen nor avoided. This is one of the reasons securing a complete budget can help us to dodge and weave through any problems when they arise.
What we can assure all of our backers is that we will remain in contact with you all, answer any specific questions you may have and update you on both the film and the rewards as the information comes in.
We thank you in advance for believing in us and supporting independent filmmaking!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
