About

We are a group of artists and creative professionals who believe an arts community is stronger and richer when it has regular exposure to its creators. That's the idea behind our series of books—to provide a way for the community to discover and celebrate some of the incredible talent in the region, one book at a time. We start with ten photographers but plan to follow up with painters, sculptors, writers, and other artists.

We need to raise $14K to pay for printing, binding, and shipping the first thousand copies of the book and to throw a modest book signing party after it comes off press this summer. Please support us by pre-ordering a first edition copy of the book, or selecting one of the small archival prints some of the photographers are generously offering, or simply donating to, or becoming a patron of our project.

Everything a publishing house normally does, we're freelancing out to a crew of local creative professionals. They invest their time and talent, without pay, or even a guarantee of pay, in return for a share of the book's success. Each project will have its own team in order to spread the love and bring a diversity of talent to our projects. Likewise the cast of photographers all own shares in the book, and money starts accumulating in everyone's accounts as soon as we reach our fundraising goal. With this co-op approach and reaching out to the regional arts community, we're trying to do something a little like the farm-to-table food movement, only bringing fine art from studios all over the region to your coffee table.

Sketch of clothbound, debossed, and foilstamped case

We can't show you our book cover yet, only this sketch of it. That's because to make a prototype of our specialty bound case was simply too expensive. We are book people who aren't satisfied with a run of the mill art book, we are striving for a book that is itself an art object. The design and manufacturing calls for a cloth bound case in charcoal, with a debossed frame in the upper half, and inside that frame the ten printed color thumbnails are adhered and set off against the stamped cloth, and below that the title is foil-stamped in metallic silver. They overall effect is classy and artful and we hope will be attractive to collectors of photography, regional artists, and booklovers.

Inside is another story, here's a sneak peak for each of the photographers portfolio openings. Each photographers portfolio consists of 12 pages or 6 spreads.

The book is a modestly sized 9" x 9" with a grand total of 128 pages and well over 100 photographs. Some of them cross the whole spread and are as large as 9" x 18." Ten Piscataqua Photographers will retail for $60 once it's off press and in stores and online. Advance sales start at $48 each for 1-4 books, $46 each for 5-11 books, and $44 each for 12+ books. We hope you'll consider pre-ordering enough copies for the photography lovers on your holiday gift list.

Many of the contributing photographers have also donated small signed archival prints from one of their images appearing in the book to help us reach our crowdfunding target. Each of these editions are limited to 10 copies, and individual copies are available for a $100 pledge. Details for each of the editions are in the rewards section.

Some of our other rewards include recognition of your support on our website, an electronic version of the book, and Patron recognition for  individuals, businesses and organizations on the back page inside the book, for all time.

For more images and information, subscribe to our email updates to track our campaign's progress, and visit our website or Facebook page. Please also consider forwarding this link along to anyone you know in the arts community who might be interested in photography and regional arts projects.

Thanks for supporting your local fine artists!

Risks and challenges

The photographer introductions have been written, the portfolios have been edited, and the book has been designed and copyedited with files ready for prepress. Once we reach our target the book will be sent to a previously secured US book manufacturer, scheduled for printing and binding in June 2018.

We plan to be shipping books and prints to backers in July of 2018.

The bulk of Kickstarter contributions will go to the printing, binding and distribution of the book.

If any unforeseen changes occur I will be contacting backers with updates for fulfilling orders.
