Goal Reached in First 8 Days!

Let's talk about Stretch Goals:

$10,000 - We can have a successful screening in Anaheim this August during D23, the world's largest Disney fan convention.

$15,000 - A proper screening in Orlando on a date to be decided by the backers!

Any ideas for additional stretch goals? Let us know and maybe we can make them happen!

What’s it about?

The Dark Side of Disney is a feature-length documentary film that examines what happens when Disney fans take their obsessions to the extreme.

In 2005, filmmaker Philip B. Swift and his mother scattered his grandmother's ashes in the moat around Cinderella castle in the Magic Kingdom. It's that event that sends him on a journey to discover other Disney fans who may have pushed the envelope in their desire to experience the darker side of the Disney theme parks.

"Disney Gangs", urban explorers, podcasters, drug abusers, even the filmmaker's own mother, they're all part of The Dark Side of Disney.

The film is also inspired by Leonard Kinsey's bestselling travel guide. Everything from scams to save you money at the park, tricks on how to experience it from a more "adult" perspective, and tips about sex, alcohol, drugs, and rock and roll, are all investigated in the film.

The Current Status & Why We Need Your Help to Finish the Film

On November 15, 2014, filmmaker Philip B. Swift and his wife welcomed their first child, Margo Ripley Robbins to the world!

By the time Margo was born, filming was completed on The Dark Side of Disney and we are nearing completion of a rough cut of the film.  However, having a baby takes up a lot of time!

With the producing, directing, editing, and writing being done independently by Philip B. Swift, cinematography help from Joe Spit and Zach Lennon-Simon, and featuring music by Gabe Schray, the bulk of the work has been done, but we need your help for the final push to completion.

So far, the entire project has been paid for from initial funding previously raised on Kickstarter and now we're back to fund the finishing costs of the film.

Our goal is to have a rough cut done by the end of June, have some rough cut screenings in NYC in July to get feedback, and then premiere the film in August.

If the 532 backers from the first Kickstarter campaign each gave an additional $15, we'd reach our goal immediately.  But that's a lot to ask for.

That's why we now have to ask YOU to help us cross that finish line.

Thank you for your contribution!

Risks and challenges

The risks at this point are minimal. All of the filming is done. It's really just about time and the level of quality of the final product.

With these funds, we can have the film done by this summer in its best possible form. That, I guarantee.
