The funds for this project are going to be split in half with 50% going to Dan and Louisa from the Copoetics and 50% going to Phil Cowen, who is producing the documentary.
The Copoetics are going to use the money to record their first full length studio album. They are also going to use some of funds to kick off their new tour in the spring of 2015.
Phil Cowen will use his share of the project fund to fly a small film crew to the big island of Hawaii, rent some cameras and sound equipment and shoot enough footage to produce a 45 - 60 minute short film, which is to make its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival in January 2015.
If there is enough left over, Dan, Louisa, Phil and crew will secure passage to Utah for Sundance 2015.
Airfare is our biggest enemy right now. If we don't get this project 100% funded, this film may not be made. MORE IMPORTANTLY, Dan and Louisa may not get back from Hawaii. (I know, there are WAY worse places to be stranded).
Risks and challenges
Once this project is funded the real work begins. We have to file permits to shoot in Hawaii, actually get to Hawaii, shoot tons of footage, record music, get the music mastered, get back home, edit the footage, arrange the tracks, register for Sundance, get to Sundance and produce a great story.
Piece of cake, right? The good thing is that each member involved in the making of this documentary is willing to do whatever it takes (within the law and ethics, of course) to get this project done. Besides, we all work well under pressure.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
