About this project
Dark Empire is the creation of fans of classic RPGs and tabletop games. Set in a colonial type world tinkering on the brink of war between a powerful but thinly spread Empire and a desperate, idealistic rebellion. Underneath it all a sinister plot is unfolding that threatens both sides. As Maxum, you will be thrust into this world and its conflict and be forced to make some tough choices about your allies, your ideals, and what you are willing to sacrifice.

The war was over.
A hundred years and more deaths than could be reckoned the Empire forged itself into every corner of the world. The Empire has brought a peace that none of the kingdoms before could obtain. For the first time in centuries the arts and sciences have found their bearings and the people are allowed to flourish.
Yet, peace breeds other thoughts. Where kings and queens took their vigil now sits only one, who is supreme in all. The discontent fills where the dust has yet to settle and at present the Rebellion builds its numbers, reaching back to ideals long gone. Freedom for the Rebellion tastes sweeter than any offering of peace.
Dear Hero, the call of action should sting in your blood and pull you forward, for this world sits on its precipice. Will you join the Rebellion and seek to restore the freedom and chaos of the world before? Or will you stand with the Empire and protect the peace that offers advancements hardly dreamed?
The choice shall be yours.
Player Driven Story
It’s an empire, not a hallway
Over the course of the game players will have to make decisions that will affect the story and the world at large. Towns will flourish or die, allies will be won and lost, powerful enemies will be made. Dynamic party and NPC dialogue will change with your actions. The entire plot will branch based on major decisions throughout the story.
Tactical Turn Based Battle System
The right thing at the wrong time is the wrong thing.
Our take on the classic Turn Based system promotes thinking through your actions as opposed to just selects “attack” as fast as you can. Attacks take time, time in which your opponent will also be attacking you. Do you choose quick attacks to get the first strike in, or slower but stronger attacks to finish your opponent off in one blow? With a myriad of options such as magic mixing and combat stances at your disposal, a well coordinated assault will spell victory against even the most powerful of enemies.
Open Character Building
Rub some dirt on that scrape and get back in the field, soldier!
Characters are not restricted to simple classes. Any character in your party can be advanced to your preferences. Do you want to teach the priest Opal some arcane magic? Sure! Want Raven to abandon her bow and get up close and personal with a sword? Why not! You choose what abilities and attributes they gain when they gain a level in a system with a wide variety of options.
An arsenal at your disposal. Choose wisely.
The world of Dark Empire has a long history of conflict, and as such, is home to generations of weapons and armor. You will have over one hundred different classes of weapons available to choose from, including swords, lances, daggers, bows, cannons, and guns. Each piece is unique, crafted by a blacksmith with care as marked by their symbol somewhere on the handle. You will find that blacksmiths tend to favor certain weapon qualities to others. It’s up to you to find the highest quality weapons you can to prepare for upcoming battles.
Well...that was unexpected.
Very soon after the game starts, Maxum is set loose upon the world. Don’t let the lack of apparent activity on the world map fool you, anything can happen. When exploring outside of cities, random encounters may happen. The operative word here is encounters (not battles). Sometimes you will come across a landmark, or an item, or an obstacle. You may meet some people along the road simply passing by, or roving highwaymen. It’s up to you to decide how to handle these situations. Remember, choices have consequences. It's said that the greatest victory is the battle not fought. Sparse patrolling is not a license to become a barbarian, and your friends and those you meet along the way will be witness to your actions.

PTFGames are gaming enthusiasts of various backgrounds and experiences, including an experienced lead programmer with published games on the Windows Ap market, a published mathematician with years of computer simulation experience, a seasoned fantasy writer, a brilliant composer, as well as a couple of talented artists.
Risks and challenges
Dark Empire is a highly ambitious project, which is why we have so much talent directed at it. There is always the right that our ambitions will have to be reigned in if they prove too impossible.
