This is a classic reborn! Martin Wallace's design, originally set in a different universe, has been now translated into the realities of the myths and legends of the Victorian London. The same London which stood as inspiration for so many stories. Unavailable for more than 3 years now, the game returns in a new, stunning PHALANX quality edition.
The previous edition sold tens of thousands of copies and received fantastic feedback from the community:
The new artwork and premium components aren’t the most important part of this project. Cardboard and plastic is worth nothing compared to the fun you get when you play the game. And this game brings you this most important thing: an hour of fantastic gaming experience for your family and friends.
But why we should stop here? Let’s improve this experience, let’s start playing NOW! This won’t be a standard Kickstarter campaign. It will be a true story-driven campaign! To reveal the goals you need to solve the mystery puzzle:
So, please sit back, watch the trailer, and follow the first campaign update to read the Prologue of our story. Become a Nanty Narking backer now and take an important part in the investigation!

Nanty Narking is a Victorian board game of wit and podsnappery that reintroduces the well-known bestseller of Martin Wallace. Immersed deeply in the world of Dickens's and Doyle's literature, the card events in the game are now tied to real and fictional characters and places in London. More specifically, following a scrupulous analysis of inspirations that were found and identified in historical English literature, all game locations, events, and characters have received new identities corresponding to the ones found in the previous edition of the game. This way the game retains its attractiveness to the established audience, but expands its reach to a wide range of people generally interested in history and literature of the Victorian period.
The action takes place on the map of London, with players placing their followers and buildings on the board through card play. Each of the 132 cards is unique, and "the cards bring the game to life as they include most of the famous characters that have appeared in the various books. The rules are relatively simple: Play a card and do what it says. Most cards have more than one action on them, and you can choose to do some or all of these actions. Some cards also allow you to play a second card, so you can chain actions" (Martin Wallace). At the beginning of the game, each player draws a secret personality with specific victory conditions, which means that you can never be sure what the other players need to do in order to win. You need to fulfill your goal while also trying to prevent others from winning!
Simple game rules and deep, immersive gameplay are the backbone of this title’s success. Please check the Previews and Reviews sections on the campaign page (just scroll down) to get the idea of what people think about the game.

Our Goal and Story Goals
This campaign is not something that you are used to seeing on Kickstarter. The game design is complete and has been playtested by more than 60.000 players, with a great 7.2 rating on BoardGameGeek.com! So, there will be no rule-changing expansions and stretch goals.
The game will be published if we reach the funding goal of £60,000. And then we will start our journey through Victorian London to solve the mystery of Lenore’s death, playing a gamebook written by Mikołaj Kołyszko. What lies ahead on this path? What upgrades and additional components will you collect for the game box? With this first story-based Kickstarter campaign everything is in your hands.
All reached story goals are added to every game for free, except the add-ons, which need to be purchased separately.
Nanty Narking Artbook
All backers with their backer number no higher than #2200 will receive a free copy of Nanty Narking - Stories in an imaginary world - an artbook (full colour, A5 size, 4+48 pages [250-170g coated chalk paper], UV varnish, English edition) by Waldemar Gumienny, showing the connections between the game and Victorian themed literature. This book was available for free during the first 48 hours of this campaign for all who get the Round World Pledge. This item is also available as an add-on - please scroll down this page for add-ons section.
What is more, thanks to revealed story goals, the Artbook add-on will be enlarged by additional pages dedicated for the gamebook story you have been shaping during this campaign. The story, written by Mikołaj Kołyszko, will be a background intro that will allow you to emerge into the game itself. It will introduce the most important figures and places you will encounter in the game.
No Game-Related Kickstarter Exclusives
We are players at heart, so we are against Kickstarter exclusives. In this campaign you will find no game-related Kickstarter exclusives. But the deluxe Victorian coins set that you receive for free when backing the Round World Pledge during this campaign will not be free afterwards. This set will be available at retail distribution for £20.00, and limited in production.
Please note, however, that Nanty Narking - Stories in an imaginary world is a Kickstarter exclusive for this campaign.
Polyhedroncollider.com, Sep 2018. Nanty Narking is a brilliant game, something that carefully balances direct player conflict and area control without relying on heavy randomness and this new version is beauty to behold.
Tabletoptogether.com, Sep 2018. From the looks of the components and the huge box you would expect this to be the main event of your typical game night. But the truth is, the game is has a rather simple ruleset and plays fast. This actually surprised me and in a good way.
Nerdly.co.uk, Aug 2018. As someone who never played the original, Nanty Narking occupies a unique spot in my collection. There are relatively few games that feature such interaction, such one-upmanship and such a simple set of rules. I won’t lie, I also love the new artwork. Yes, dark, heavy oil is a big departure from the comical, cartoon style of thepredecessor, but that might be a deliberate juxtaposition and in any case, it fits Nanty Narking‘s theme well.
Reviews of the previous edition
Harvey O'Brien, Sep 2011. I was a little skeptical but also intrigued when I first heard about this and I preordered it when I could. Martin Wallace hasn't let me down. Though the game is quick and fairly light and has some randomness, there are still meaningful choices to be made in the manner of most Wallace games, and you're not going to find it as straightforward as it seems. Played quickly and with a sense of fun, this is a very worthwhile and entertaining addition to any game table.
Neil Thomson, Mar 2014. It is a fantastic game from the stripped-back mechanics and player interaction aspects through to the care to honour the world it is drawn from and the wonderful production values. For those that think Wallace went too light with this design compared to his tight scoring and meaty designs of the past I call foul. I think this is a deeper game than it is given credit for, it's just not the same kind of deep that relies on heavy mechanics, multiple scoring options and a bundle of components. If you have never heard of the universe do not fear, this will not result in a poor experience one bit. In fact a much larger factor in your enjoyment will boil down to your like or dislike of 'take that', 'bash the leader' and area control games.
RPG.net, Dec 2011. This is is a very different sort of game for Martin Wallace. It's more of an American design, full of randomness and confrontation, with some touches of elegant Euro design. Fans of American games should find it a well-polished and well-themed entertainment. Fans of Euro games will need to be comfortable with the random elements, but if so will enjoy a fun game.
The Opinionated Gamers, Mar 2012. For me, the game is light, devious fun. Don’t’ take it too seriously and accept it for what it is. It seems to accomplish exactly what it is designed to do – provide players with a light and fun game that is filled with power grabs, smack-downs and unexpected twists of fortune.

Risks and challenges
PHALANX has been publishing board games since 2009.
Our products are known for great quality, just like our customer service.
This is our fourth Kickstarter campaign: in 2016 we successfully fulfilled the Germania Magna campaign, and Mark Simonitch’s Hannibal & Hamilcar in 2018. U-BOOT is still in production, and you can follow its development here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/phalanxgames/uboot-the-board-game.
We do not expect delays in production, but unforeseen issues may arise during manufacturing and shipping. We estimate that in the worst case scenario, the production might suffer delays of at most 30 days, and shipping & customs may add an extra 15-30 days. We are experienced with large production runs, and we are preparing back-up plans for each step of the project, from production to shipping and final delivery.
By backing this project you agree that our primary responsibility to you is to ship your order as entered into the pledge management system. You are responsible for import or other duties that may be payable to relevant tax authorities. You also accept that you are fully liable for incorrect shipping details and will risk your pledge being undeliverable or lost in transit. We are unable to ship to PO Boxes. We allow a maximum of one delivery location per backer, regardless of the number of pledges / copies ordered.
If you do not accept the proposed terms, then please do not back this project; wait for the retail release.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
