We don't use a pledge manager — backers may not increase their pledge or add on more items after the campaign ends.
PHALANX, publisher of the acclaimed 1944: Race to the Rhine and 20 other titles, is proud to present Germania Magna, another gem of board game design, small and unique, well worth owning!
Germania Magna: Border in Flames is a game of shifting alliances, in which you take the role of a Germanic warlord leading his warriors into Roman provinces. The Roman Empire is still too strong to be conquered, but its fields and cities provide a very attractive target for raiding. While your warriors will find Loot, you, their leader, will be presented with an excellent opportunity to prove yourself a worthy commander and achieve eternal Glory. The enemy is still very powerful, so in order to win you'd need to forge alliances (however fragile) with other warlords. Some of you may decided, however, to switch sides each time the tides of war change.
Germania Magna offers a rich historical theme and allows to experience surprisingly deep war game for the pocket size box it fits in. Enjoy this quick and intense game on the trip, in a pub or between longer games.
What's in the box
What's so special about this game?
In Germania Magna, the competition between players is as important as their cooperation. The game mechanics reflect the problem of forces fragmented in a fight with a bigger and more powerful enemy. Germania Magna was in development since the year 2012, and it is a serious game with plenty of components in a small box.
Do you remember any other game about hordes of Germanic tribes attacking the Roman Empire in the times of late antiquity? It's a really interesting period. Many conflicted factions fighting with the Romans and competing between themselves at the same time, while using distinct fighting styles and variety of tactics. Finally, you can beat these arrogant Romans!
Germania Magna includes dozens of beautiful illustrations portraying Germanic chieftains, warriors, their fighting styles and also Roman provinces and their army formations. All the artwork in the game is by talented artists who are enthusiasts of antiquity.
We have made every effort to make this game enjoyable by both, those who like games with high playability, and with rich historical detail and flavor. Our team is formed of individuals, who produced Ph.D. thesis in history as well as writers of books and scientific papers on antiquity. The art has been trusted to talented people, who are truly interested in the history, the game portrays. Our head art director is a reenactor in Legio XXI Rapax.
Future expansions in development
Germania Magna: Borders in Flames is planned as the core game, volume I in a series. We're already working on the first expansion. If this campaign succeeds, in the future we plan to release more expansions and add more tribes, as well as widen the territorial range of the events and the time period. And we have prepared deck-building rules. This gives endless replayability to the game.

Our goal and stretch goals
This is a simple, straightforward campaign. The design is complete, with more than 4 years of development and playtests behind it. There are no rule-changing stretch goals. We don't need them, as this is not 'another Zombie game' with miniatures, add-ons, etc. This is a historicial card wargame, a genre that is a niche on the gaming market. With this campaign we are back to Kickstarter basics. We offer a great product for a great price and a short fulfillment period. We want to deliver the game without any delays, taking into account that not everyone can make it to Essen, where we'd be officially launching Germania Magna, as we cannot imagine a better place, closer to Rhine. In order to do so, we need to use Kickstarter. There is no hidden agenda. We offer a great and simple deal.
Estimated delivery for the game is November 2016 or Essen SPIEL 2016 Pick-up.
If we can manage to gather £10.000 during the Kickstarter campaign, we will pay the designers’ of Germania Magna to develop the first expansion for the game: "Storm from the East". 90 new cards, new playable faction with its own deck plus new Roman units and Provinces to raze!
Dice are now an important component to many games. There is a trend to give them a look which adds to the flavour of the game. Germania Magna is a game set in late antiquity. We have made a great effort to make it historically accurate. We wanted a real Roman looking die rather than a die stylized on Roman. So, here we go: a Roman die as an add-on.
We want to keep the production and delivery as fast and easy as possible, so in this campaign there are no other add-ons for the base game. Instead, we offer you our other games as an add-ons:
To include any add-ons to your pledge, please click on the Manage your pledge button. Increase your total pledged amount to include any items you would like to receive. You need to take at least one copy of the Germania Magna game, to be able to include add-ons to your pledge.
By the end of the campaign you will be asked to fill a survey where you will inform us which items you have added in your order.
Please note that you may be receiving the items you pledged for in more than one package, as we want to keep shipping costs as low as possible.

Backing the game is a great way to support the project and we thank you for your support. The next best thing you could do is to help us build awareness for the game by following us and sharing our posts on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram.
Production & delivery
The games are produced in EU, keeping the normal high standards of PHALANX. If you back us on Kickstarter, you will receive the game several weeks before the games reach any other retail outlets! Our goal is to produce Germania Magna: Border In Flames within 30 days from the reaching of our funding goal and have the game debut at Essen SPIEL Fair 2016. The Kickstarter backers will have their copies delivered in November 2016.
The games will be shipped out from EU. The shipping cost is just £5 to any place in the world (and free for Poland, where the game is produced). There are no additional shipping costs based on address; wherever you live, that’s where we will send the game.
If you'd like to add-on additional copies of the standard Germania Magna: Border In Flames, you can add to your basic pledge of £15 any number of copies, by adding £20 for each additional copy (game + shipping cost, as we ship each game separately). To add more games beyond the first, manually enter the £ total when making your pledge or click the Manage your pledge button next to a previously made pledge. For example, enter £35 for 2 copies of the standard Germania Magna: Border In Flames, or £55 for 3, etc.
If you'd like to add-on additional copies of the Essen pick-up Germania Magna: Border In Flames, you can add to your basic pledge of £15 any number of copies, by adding £15 for each additional copy. For example, enter £30 for 2 copies of the Essen pick-up Germania Magna: Border In Flames, or £45 for 3, etc.
We ship the games individually, to keep the low value of each delivery. Shipments to non-EU backers will have 17 EUR declared as the value of the package. This should be under the limit that triggers customs fees in most countries.
We are offering the game to retailers during the campaign. We treat retailer backers just like other backers in that they receive their rewards before we release regular retail games into distribution.
If you're a retailer, please contact us at sales[at]vertima.trade for additional information.

Risks and challenges
We are publishing board games since 2009, with more than 20 titles already published. This is our first Kickstarter campaign, but our second experience with crowdfunding, as we did a very successful campaign for The Magnates: A Game of Power in 2014 in Poland.
We do not expect delays in production (this is our 20th production, and we know how to do this), but unforeseen issues may arise during manufacturing and shipping. We estimate that in the worst case scenario, production might have delays of at most 14 days, and shipping might have delays of 14-21 days.
We have been dealing with large production runs since 2009, and we are preparing back-up plans for each step of the project, from production to shipping and final delivery.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
