Thanks to you and your amazing support, Sneaky Goblins funded in just 5 days! I've added some stretch goals below the rewards section, so you can check that out below.
One all the fun is over, I'd love if you followed along the continuing stories of Dank and bog and Sophie over on my webcomic: www.tolcraft.com.
Sneaky Goblins is a 160 page, full color all-ages fantasy-adventure story about an assassin school dropout...
Dank managed to tick off the principal and got himself kicked out of assassin school. He finds his way into a den of gangsters. Their leader, Boris, forces him into an impossible quest! Now, the fate of everyone he cares about rests in his tiny, green hands.
He encounters a number of obstacles, each more challenging than the last, including wild boar, a farmer with a crossbow, and a powerful wizard:
Fortunately, he teams up with an unlikely ally: a ukulele-playing orc named Bog. Together, they defeat an unpredictable and powerful mage, battle a squadron of ninja elves, and pull off a great impersonation of a couple of travelling grocers:
Dank levels up his skills and shows the world that he really is a sneaky goblin! Bog and Dank make a great team, but they get a lot of support from Dank's old college buddy and model student, Sophie:
But even if Dank succeeds in his quest, will he survive meeting Boris again?
"Sneaky Goblins, like the name suggests, catches you by surprise and goes straight for the heart (via the jugular). René Pfitzner has created an original tale of epic proportions with twists and turns that will satisfy any avid adventurer (or one-armed magical orc)."

Creator? That's me!
Sneaky Goblins is written and drawn by me, René Pfitzner. I was a character animator at Disney and a storyboard artist at Southern Star. I have also contributed to a number of different comic anthologies.
My sketchbooks are full of characters from fantasy genres: sword-wielding knights, orcs, goblins, elves. So I thought: "these guys would make awesome comic characters."
So where did the story come from?
Sneaky Goblins is about more than elves and orcs and goblins...
Over the last few years, I’ve experienced some struggles─changing careers, having kids, feeling the pressure of more and more responsibilities, and not knowing if I'm cut out for any of it. I’ve tried to tackle some of these ideas in the comic.
It's usually after we dive into a new and scary situation that we gain confidence and find out that we can survive, adapt and sometimes even thrive. It would be great to know how our lives are gonna work out, but we only live it in one direction: from start to finish.
Dank has to discover if he's up for the task, and he has to do it the hard way:
If you'd like to check it out for yourself, you can get the entire first issue free.
Here's a few pages from around the middle of the story:
For the last 3 years, I've been making and posting the pages of this comic every week over on my webcomic, www.tolcraft.com. Now the whole story is complete, and it's time to print the book!
With your help, I'd love to make this book an actual, physical reality, and get it into the hands of readers like you.
- 160 pages─the entire story in one volume (150 comic pages, plus chapter dividers and back matter.)
- Full colour
- Perfect bound
- Cover: 14pt (300gsm) matte laminate finish
- Interior paper: 70lbs (100 gsm) matte coating
- Size: 6.625 x 10.25in. (standard Image Comics book size)
The book is 100% complete and ready for print! I've come to Kickstarter to help get this book into as many hands as possible, and I'd love your support to bring it to life.
The amount raised will all go to funding an offset print run of 500 copies of Sneaky Goblins.
What will the funds be used for?
I'm only on Kickstarter to print the book and get them out to all of you wonderful backers! I'm not trying to make money or reimburse myself for any of the time I spent making the comic itself.
The whole amount raised will go back into the book, the rewards, and shipping it out safely to you!
Dollar amounts are in AUD:
Rewards? We got 'em!

Here's an example of one of those original sketches up for grabs:
Go to this Pinterest page if you'd like to check out more of my sketches included in these reward levels. I'll be adding more sketches as the campaign goes on.
*Edit: In the reward description I indicate that drawings are selected at random. However, if you have a preference, I'd be very happy to try and reserve for you the drawing you'd prefer.
You should have your books by the end of November 2018.
I plan on sending the final book files to KrakenPrint as soon as the funds come through from Kickstarter (about two weeks after the campaign ends).
Printing takes about a month and then shipping takes two months on top of that. I want to have a one-month buffer just in case there is a delay at the docks.
The books will be printed in Taiwan and shipped to Kraken in Chicago and to me in Melbourne, Australia. Kraken will be fulfilling orders to US and Canadian backers, while I pack and ship to Australian backers and everyone else.
I set it up this way to keep shipping costs down for our North American friends.
Thanks so much for checking out my campaign. I'm really excited about making this book and I'd love for you to be involved. Choose a pledge and lock in your copy now.
Risks and challenges
As a Kickstarter backer myself, I know how much it means to ask you to support a new project with your hard-earned money. So I've made every effort to minimise any risk to you as a potential backer before launching this campaign.
First, I made sure the entire 160-page graphic novel was 100% complete and ready to print, so that when (with your help) the campaign is successful, files can be uploaded to the printer immediately and digital rewards will ship to backers upon receiving the completed surveys.
Second, I wanted to go with a tested and reliable printer. I have received quotes from multiple printers and have chosen to go with KrakenPrint, who are ready to put the project in motion when the campaign is complete.
Third, this campaign will be my first Kickstarter, so I'm no expert, but I have made every effort to draw on the knowledge of others who have run successful Kickstarter campaigns.
This project is close to my heart, and my goal is to make sure that every backer receives their reward and looks forward to my next fantasy graphic novel.
If you have any questions or concerns that I may not have covered, please feel free to message me. I want to make your involvement in my project as easy and as rewarding as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
