Pet Outhouse - Stop Storing Turds In Your House
Enjoy a cleaner, healthier, and fresher home by finally moving your cat's litter boxes out of your house. It just makes sense.
You are what will make this project a reality. Please take 10 seconds to let friends and family know about Pet Outhouse.
"We love our pets . . . we just hate the smell and mess."
Isn't it about time we move our pet's litter boxes out of our homes? How does your house smell right now? Would a guest know instantly that you have a pet? How do you like walking barefoot over tracked litter?
"I feel like I can breathe again."
Let's be honest, litter boxes are pretty gross. Moving your pet's bathroom out of the house just makes sense. Finally, your home will be cleaner, healthier, and fresher. The Pet Outhouse works because it moves their litter boxes out of the house and simultaneously keeps them away from dangers like cars, other animals, and poison chemicals. Plus, pets love this new space!
"Kids, that's not a sandbox!"
Doesn't your family deserve a home that doesn't have filthy boxes sitting around? Let's solve this problem once and for all.
"How does it work?"
The Pet Outhouse allows your pet to leave the home to use the bathroom so the mess and odor stay out of your home.
It comes with an adjustable ramp that has slots to help remove litter from your pet's paws before they return to your home.
"Check out that door."
The access door is lightweight, opens in very tight spaces, and even holds itself open. It opens wide to make cleaning a breeze. And the latch will prevent your escape artist from getting away. Plus, it allows for storage on the top shelf all the way to the ceiling.
"Can I set it up how I like?"
The Pet Outhouse is large enough to fit 2 or 3 litter boxes and can be set up in many ways to work for you. It can even be used as a new play space for your pet.
"Does it work with dogs too?"
You bet it does. We wouldn't exclude this little guy would we?
"Where do I get a pet door?"
The Pet Outhouse works with already available pet doors that install through the wall. Already have a pet door? Great. But if you don't, just click here to find a link to pet doors and here for the wall insert. Don't worry, they're easy to install and it takes approximately 20 minutes. The links even have simple videos showing how it's done. And if you still aren't comfortable installing it, a search in my area on angieslist.com showed a handyman would come out and install it for $99.
"Where does it go?"
The Pet Outhouse is made from pre-finished birch plywood with a natural cut edge and decorative hardware, giving it a clean modern look. The finish on the faces makes it easy to clean but it should be installed in a location that is completely protected from the weather like a porch.
"How does it arrive?"
To save you money and lessen the environmental impact from shipping, the Pet Outhouse will arrive flat packed so some assembly will be required. But we'll provide clear instructions and even include the Allen wrench needed to put it together.
"How big is it?"
The Pet Outhouse is approximately 4' wide x 3' tall x 2' deep. It is completely free standing and it only requires 2 screws to secure it to the wall.
The enclosure and adjustable ramp work best when your house floor is up to 16" or 2 steps higher than the Pet Outhouse floor. If you have more steps up into your house, you could always build a base to raise up your Pet Outhouse.
We always seem to have indoor cats. Our latest cat, named Seven, came from the shelter with a bad knee joint. We simply didn't trust that knee to keep him safe in the great outdoors. He is a sweet cat with a fun personality but let me tell you, he can clear a room when he goes to the bathroom. Necessity truly was the mother of this invention.
I have worked as a design engineer for 22 years in the automotive and aerospace industries, so I started sketching. I built the first version of this product for my own home over 10 years ago. Since then, we've moved 2 times, installed it in each home, and I can genuinely say it has made a huge impact on our daily lives. Friends now have the Pet Outhouse for their homes and they won't go back either.
I really think that this product has been sorely missing from the marketplace, so I decided to step in and try to fill the void.
My 22 year engineering career has been entirely focused on moving new products from initial concept to full scale production. I've spent the last 11 months sketching, researching, redesigning, prototyping, and working with suppliers to optimize the design. I recently quit my job to throw everything I've got into this effort. Every aspect of the design, from the hardware, to the size, to the door mechanism has been methodically scrutinized during this process. And now this design is ready for production and it is so much better than the one I've loved for 10 years. I hope you love it too.
Thank you so much to the Kickstarter community for giving me this platform to bring this product to life. This is my first product launch but I have loved nearly every minute of working on this project and I will not let you down.

Risks and challenges
For the the last 22 years, my job has been moving products from the original concept sketch to full scale production in the aerospace and automotive industries. On this project, I've been working for the last 11 months trying to anticipate all the issues I could. With all the parts sourced and the suppliers lined up, I am confident that it is ready for production. Having said that, nothing ever launches without a hitch or two but I will resolve these as they crop up.
So my plan is to be direct and transparent with you, the backers of Pet Outhouse, with clear and timely communication on any changes that come about during the development. Occasionally, Kickstarter campaigns far exceed their goals and my timeline will still work for roughly 5x funding. Volume beyond this, if we are so fortunate, will be completed as quickly as possible with the Early Birds shipping first and delivery schedules communicated through updates.
Building codes vary widely from place to place so ensure that the location you choose is suitable to install a pet door based on your local building codes.
A note about wood. Plywood as a material has natural character marks like knots, scars, and small edge voids and the machining process can sometimes leave tool marks which are perfectly normal. We will minimize the visibility of these to the best of our ability but they will not affect the function or strength of the product in any way.
