Ledge Pants is releasing The Pants: stainproof pants that are more durable than your jeans, but don't look like it.

Trend Hunter: "It is officially the 21st century when stain-resistant pants can be purchased and added to your wardrobe."

Design Taxi: "Looking like stylish chinos and dress pants, they are versatile enough to be worn at the office, on a bicycle or even while rock-climbing..."

Dude I Want That: "Movable. Versatile. Unoffensive to the belly button."

InStash: "Ledge Pants has created The Pants, something all of us men have been waiting years to enjoy. "

Women's sizing now available!

The Story

Over the past few years, Peter destroyed many pairs of pants. Climbing, cycling, and the occasional spilled cup of coffee made cleaning stains, fixing tears, and buying replacements all-too-common of a ritual. One day, after having enough, he decided it was time for something different.

After many months of development and with a few more people onboard, we are pleased to introduce The Pants from Ledge Pants.

Water and Stain Resistance

The inside of The Pants are breathable and wick away sweat, while the outside repels water and stains. In fact, anything from apple juice to wine will slide right off as if The Pants were made of glass. If anything does start to soak through, it will be wicked away promptly. Tougher stains like grease and oil can be rubbed off, or they will come out in the wash.

Durability

The Pants are more durable than jeans. Plus, only the sturdiest zippers and buttons make it into these pants. This showed through one day when Carl crashed his bike during a rainstorm, resulting in no damage to his pants but plenty of foul words.

Easy Care

Frequent washing is unnecessary with these pants. We prefer to wash them in cold water, followed by a tumble dry on low. Both drying and ironing are ways to reactivate the water and stain repellent treatment.

Furthermore, The Pants resist wrinkles. Within an hour of wear, all wrinkles will disappear.

Aesthetics

The Pants look just like your other chinos and dress pants. We are going with a simple, clean aesthetic: no logos, no Velcro, no shiny gizmos. This means that you can wear the same pair of pants to your business meeting and on your commute home.

The pockets are extra deep so that things won't fall out, and have a cut in the side to make access a little easier.

Ease of Movement

Due to the high elastane content (10%) in the fabric, The Pants stretch like you might expect yoga pants to. As opposed to straining and binding, they respond to your movements by gently moving wherever you please.

Sustainability

The fabric used in production is from a bluesign certified manufacturer, meaning that it is made in an environmentally sustainable way. Also, production is in the same city as we are, cutting out a bunch of wasteful shipping.

By keeping things local, we are able to create jobs and support businesses that want to do the same. Buying a pair of pants will improve your life, and will help improve the lives of many more.

Testing

We have extensively tested varieties of pants for the past year, defining what we believe makes great pants. Armed with that knowledge, we have developed what we think are the best pants around. Climbers Griffin Whiteside and Hayden Jamieson have put the final result through the wringer for the past two months, intensely picking at every detail.

How Kickstarter Works

The following is taken directly from the Kickstarter info page.

Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. Backing a project is more than just giving someone money, it's supporting their dream to create something that they want to see exist in the world.

To pledge to a project, just click the green “Back This Project” button on any project page. You will be asked to enter your pledge amount and select a reward tier. For US-based projects, you will go through the Amazon checkout process. For projects launched outside of the US, you will check out through Kickstarter.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

The next few months will have minimal risks and challenges, and will mainly involve waiting. After this campaign is funded, a fabric order will be placed. Once that happens, it will take six to seven weeks to have the fabric dyed and treated properly. Other materials such as buttons, zippers, and thread will be ordered and shipped from reliable suppliers during that time, allowing for us to begin fulfilling orders as soon as the fabric arrives.

Our manufacturer has decades of experience including 27 years of production in the outdoor industry under their belt. Furthermore, one of the two owners used to manage production for a couple of lines carried in Nordstrom’s, meaning that quality control and timeliness are not of concern. In any case, Peter will frequently be on the production floor measuring and inspecting pants.

As far as shipping goes, we will be packing all rewards in Tyvek envelopes to ensure that they arrive just the way they were made. We also plan to ship via USPS, as they are reliable for shipping small packages and are relatively inexpensive.

So far, all funding has come from the project creator, Peter.

We will be able to answer any questions you may have along the way, and will keep backers updated on our progress.
