The Native Alien Figures (PG Exclusives!)

Every Pledge Level gets 8 unique sculpts called the "Native Aliens." These are "Petersen Games Exclusives" meaning we will sell them directly, but never sell them to retailers and distributors.

Exploring Planets

When you explore a new system in Hyperspace, lots of interesting things can be found. The most obvious and basic is that every civ has a world with 1-3 continents, each of which can host a single colony.

On those continents there are atomic and metal resources, which you can add to your production by colonizing. When you place your colony, you also put atomic or metal tokens into your colony's slots equal to the marked total.

The Mendeku homeworld has one continent with 3 atomics and one continent with 2 metal.

In addition, some continents have organic tokens marked - these are placed directly on the continent itself, awaiting salvage.

This continent has one organic token placed on it. (It also has an atomic resource.)

You can gain an organic token by performing the Salvage action, if you have a colony on that continent. Usually players won't do this till they have several organic tokens available (usually on several different worlds), or if they can also repair a damaged ship at the same time.

In orbit around a planet are sometimes shipwrecks and hyper tokens, which can be salvaged by a player who has a starbase in that orbit.

The planet Draugr has a wrecked Destroyer in orbit around it.

This is all very well, but what about those native aliens?

Well it turns out that one of the most valuable things you can find on a newly-revealed world is intelligent life. These are the native aliens.

Wolf 359 has a native alien inhabiting the southern part of the planet. (Along with a metal resource.)

When you reveal a planet with a native alien icon, you immediately take one of the native alien figures and place it there. The native alien immediately joins your faction when you plant a colony on its continent. From then on, it functions as one of your own citizens.

What are Citizens good for?

Citizens have a combat value (and are fortresses) so help defend your worlds. Plus when you Produce, each citizen you have, including native aliens, provides you with an organic resource.

The only "bad" thing about native aliens if that if your colony is destroyed, leaving the native behind, anyone can place a new colony and the native will then join THAT player's team. If a native alien is destroyed in battle it is gone forever - never replaced.

In the eventual retail version of Hyperspace, we provide snazzy cardboard counters for the native aliens. But for those who pledge to our campaign (i.e., you), you get free cool plastic figures to replace the counters. (Yes you also get the counters.)

We specifically designed the native aliens to look like old 1950s-1960s science fiction movies. This way they look more primitive, and less fearsome than the deadly Hyperspace aliens. I watched a LOT of those old movies when I was a kid, so I have a soft spot in my head for them.

How many figures/miniatures of each 8 unique native alien do we get?

If native alien gain faction abilities of the owner? I.E. If venge take control over native alien it gets post battle attack? (it not seems logical, because it is another race, but maybe it has gameplay value)

All I can say, Hamptons, is that all of my business meetings take place in rooms where Petersen Game minis can be seen.

The office and game room are synonymous in my house too :)

Glad we have an "office" in the new house. My wife wants to be able to have meetings in there, but there is not angle where a Petersen Games mini can't be seen
