Bots are arriving around the world!

Hey Romo fam-

We're emailing today because robots are showing up on people’s doorsteps around the world. Huzzah!

The little bots in this batch of 1400 taught our whole team some really important lessons. It's crazy. In 3 months we've gone from a 2 person operation in Seattle with a single demo robot to a 9 person nerdy wolf pack building and shipping thousands of Romos direct from our living room floor in Las Vegas.

One final hurdle: We're still waiting on Apple to approve the app that will let you explore with your new Romo at your side. We've had the app submitted for weeks and hoped it would be approved in time, so we shipped. But as of this morning we're still waiting, and unfortunately this means you're still waiting too.

The robots won’t work properly until the lastest version of the iOS app hits the app store (the Android version will be released at the same time). We’ll let you know personally via email as soon as the Romo app is approved on both app stores and share the link. We hope this will be by the end of the week.

Thank you all so much for your support. You’ve helped us make our dream of building an awesome little robot a reality. The picture below pretty much sums up how we feel right now...

Much love,

The Romotive Nerds

An update on the EU shipping would be nice, I too had the above message and then nothing.

Got this e-mail six weeks ago but haven't heard anything since.

      "Hi Romotive supporters,

The entire Romotive team has been working tirelessly over the last few months building and shipping Romos to happy users all over the world. You are among the last 150 users (of over 1600) who have yet to receive their Romos. We haven't shipped your Romos yet because in shipping robots to the first half of our EU users, we discovered a critical problem: EU smart devices are volume limited to 83% of their factory settings, which means that the current version of Romo won't work with these devices at all.

When we found out about these problems, we immediately stopped shipping robots to the rest of our European customers. We have now re-written the firmware, and think that we have a good solution. We are in the process of testing this solution with actual European users, and as soon as we are confident that it works, we will be shipping all of your robots at once!

We didn't anticipate that EU phones might be universally volume restricted, and it's a tough lesson learned. We're sorry for the delay, but we figured it would be better to ship working robots late than broken robots early. Again, sorry for the delay, and your Romos will be on their way as soon as they are healthy and strong enough to explore Europe!

      All the best,

      The Romotive Team"

Has anyone in Germany already received their romo?
I spend last week in the U.S. and am afraid that my postman messed up the delivery...

We're enjoying epic play time. Obstacle courses, races, torturing the cat. This thing is straight up genius.

Just an FYI: I downloaded the App to my IPod Touch this morning. I followed the instructions: Plugged in the audio jack, turned on Romo, then opened the app. The app, after a brief period of time, immediately fails. (I get the blue smiley face on the Touch but after a few seconds the app fails and I'm back at my main menu.) I re-booted the Touch, no change. Not sure if anyone else is seeing this or not

THE iOS APP IS LIVE! You can now go nuts with all your iOS devices!

We're still ironing out a few bugs on the Android app, and will let you know as soon as that is released on the Android marketplace.

As soon as I get the new interface definition I'll try to be as quick as I can to update to work on Rev 2 as well as Rev 1 (and actually release the apps and SDK library for WIndows Phone)..

    18. Mike DiFilippo on March 21, 2012

Wait, so even if we get the romo we are SOL until the apps are available? Why release the android at the same time as the IOS?

When is the Android SDK getting released ? It would be great to get it before my bot turns up.

The app from appstore is version 1.0 which was put up on march 15th, when you go to the about me of the app it says its version 2.0 I think that's where the mix up is...

    23. Gavin Maxwell on March 21, 2012

No sign of my Romo's yet... way down here in Australia...

    24. Austin Herry on March 21, 2012

I got my Romo today as well, can't you just unofficially release the app for those of us who can side load? I mean the APK will start floating around as soon as it's released on the market any way.

    25. Simon on March 21, 2012

And I have yet to see the Romo's part files on thingiverse??????

    26. Steve Goodman on March 21, 2012

    28. Gary Leatherman on March 21, 2012

Same question as Kyle, are you providing shipping notifications, or will they just be a surprise one day?

    30. Kyle Pinches
      on March 21, 2012

Can't wait to try mine out either!

Should we have all gotten shipping notifications? Or are some not shipped out yet?

    31. Benjamin Monnig on March 21, 2012

Great job guys! Hopefully you have better luck with a quick turn around in the appstore than we did with our app, Tapose. Can't wait to try out Romo.
