What I want to do: I want to launch a company designed around two simple premises - we will sell high quality, handmade longboards from the best builders around the country, and we will give away half of our net profit with the goal of helping people change the world.
How it shall be done: I have diverse tastes and talents, ranging from skateboarding to technology to music. With help from my brother (a similarly eclectic fellow), I plan to set up an online store to sell these great boards (initially from Arcane Boards, Northern Pine, and Bees Knees Skathletics, along with a variety of accessories). Each month once the business is launched, I'll take half of our net profit and put it in a separate account designated for our "50% projects." This is the money we'll use to help people:change the world. Our first project will be to provide a source of clean water in a place that currently has none by sponsoring a well through Charity: Water. [we are not affiliated with each other in any way] As time goes on and the store makes more and more money, we will be able to sponsor more wells and seek out other organizations to help.
What the dollars are for: All the funds raised here are for the launch of the company. You're funding the purchase of technology and licenses needed to build the website, advertising to get the word out about our launch, and the initial round of in-stock items. I'm very serious about using the money only for launch-specific expenses: you are funding my dreams and I owe it to you to be responsible with what you're giving.
The $5,000 goal is the bare minimum needed to get this thing up and running - as mentioned in the video, our true target is $21,000. It may seem like a lot of money in a short amount of time but it's more than possible. Give if you can, then spread the word! Tell your friends, post it up on your Facebook status, Tweet it out to all your followers, blog about it, write a song dedicated to the project... get creative! I only ask that you don't spam anybody about it or break the law to spread the word. I mean, that's just not cool.
Note: at this time, rewards can only be sent out to the United States.
