About this project
Update (2 July, 8am): In case you're not aware, I'm producing a hand-bound, leather and linen special edition of the book as well. This small run is exceptionally beautiful and features a canvas print of the cover image on the slip case, along with a folio of five prints of your choice. You can see more details in the updates section. To select this edition of the book, choose the appropriate reward below - it's $500 to Irish backers or $530 internationally.
Update (15 Jun, 4:00pm): I've added a new stretch goal of $35,000 (Achieved!). If reached, as a thank you to all backers at the $50 level and up, I'll include a "Souvenir" sized print on top of your selected reward. Thanks for your excellent support to date!
Update (7 Jun, 10:00pm): I've added a new stretch goal of $25,000 (Achieved! Thanks to you all). If this goal is attained, I'll be able to extend the print run to 3,000 copies and the book will grow from 112 pages to 128. The extra pages will be devoted to text giving insight into my photography - what inspires me, and how I go about making my images.
Update (7 Jun, 11:15am): Fully funded! Thanks to everyone who's pledged so far, I can't believe how quickly we've gotten to this point. Stay tuned for plans for the next stage to make this even better. Also, congratulations and thanks to Gavin Lyons for increasing his pledge to take us over the goal line!
Hi! I'm Peter Cox and I'm a professional landscape photographer in Ireland. I’m nationally recognized, an associate of the Irish Professional Photographers Association and in 2007 I was awarded "Landscape Photographer of the Year" by them.
I've spent the last seven years traveling the country and photographing the best scenery that Ireland has to offer under dramatic, beautiful, calm, stormy and just plain wonderful conditions. I've teetered on the edge of cliffs, gotten soaked to the skin, lost in the dark and even been marooned on isolated crags of rock way off the coast in pursuit of the perfect image.
In April 2011, I opened a gallery in Killarney, Co. Kerry - right in the heart of the beautiful Ring of Kerry. The Irish Independent, the largest newspaper in the country, wrote an article on me at the time.
After several years of building my portfolio I am ready to put together a book that I can be proud of. "The Irish Light: A Collection of Landscape Photographs" will contain more than 80 stunning photographs of landscapes and seascapes. The book design is complete - all the images have been selected, the layout has been done. The photographs were chosen to provide a range of evocative scenes that blend with each other. The book flows beautifully. I'm very excited about it, and can't wait to see it come to life in print.
That's where you come in. I'm seeking funds to pay the printing cost. 1,000 copies of the book will be printed in hardcover with 112 glossy, high-definition pages. There is a section at the back which details the technical information about each image, and the main part is divided into two sections - seascapes and landscapes. There is one large photograph per page, and several double page spreads featuring panoramic images.
By backing this project, you'll help me to achieve a life-long goal, but you'll also be helping yourself! Over on the right side of the page are a list of the items and experiences I'm offering for your support. I've designed the pledge levels to give you excellent value. In each case the combined retail value exceeds the amount you pledge to receive it.
If you can't pledge, please share this project with your friends and family, and with your social networks on Facebook and Twitter. The more people that know about it, the better chance it has of succeeding.
Remember - Kickstarter projects are all-or-nothing. In order to produce the book, the project has to meet its funding goal, or no money changes hands and the book will likely not see the light of day.
Thanks for your support, in any amount!
How were you able to set up this project if you're based in Ireland? I thought Kickstarter was US only?
I have a US bank account and billing address also, as I maintain a residency there.
You can purchase the book directly from my website: http://shop.petercox.ie/products/book-the-irish-light-a-collection-of-landscape-photographs
Unless otherwise specified, the prints are unframed. They will be signed by me and rolled in a sturdy tube. It is advised that you take the tube directly to your framer and not open it until then. The reason being that you may damage the print when opening or re-rolling it.
