Does Anyone Feel a Bit More Optimistic Today?
I'm not an optimist, and I'm not a partisan, but as this project has evolved I've decided to keep myself in the camp of the irrationally hopeful. Obama's speech in Jerusalem today has given me a temporary feeling that the optimism isn't totally irrational. I haven't seen the video yet, but from what I've read, it was a strong speech, and a brilliant maneuver around Bibi. It sounded corny to me when I heard that Obama was going to speak directly to Israeli youth, but it seems to have worked. Or at least has been working on me for the past several hours.
I'm not objective about hope. I need it. This project needs it. What's the point of making a film about the West Bank if all of our main subjects are doomed? I don't think they are. They're too deeply imbued in the powerful spirit of place to have no future.
It was a good day for us on Kickstarter. We cracked another crucial landmark number. People somehow materialize, and give us their generous support. We still have a long way to go. I'm glad to be going around these last few laps with a touch of hope at our backs....back to Facebook...
