We would like to thank everyone who supported this publication last time, and got the first issue of Peter Cline’s Ocular Anecdotes out into the world.
As a result he set up Otto Press, who now bring you this second instalment.
For this follow up issue we are intending to pull together £1000 (including Rewards, Kickstarter fees, etc.) to print 3000 copies of Ocular Anecdotes No.2
As before, this edition will be 24 pages of comics, continuing the stories originated in the first issue, with new light shed on the character’s daily dilemmas. This time however, they will be printed on 70gsm improved newsprint, thicker than before, to give a smoother texture & a sharper print surface. We are very confident you will like this new look.

- Paper: 70gsm heavy newsprint
- Full Colour: CMYK

About the Creator
Over the past year, Peter has been busily creating numerous books & prints for Otto Press, as well as contributing to several other comics anthologies. In conjunction to this, he has been working on Ocular Anecdotes No.2 and it is now finally written & designed, sketched & inked, coloured & compiled, and is ready to go.
With a great eye for detail, Peter Cline’s playful observations inform a classically influenced yet contemporary, visually arresting aesthetic. A love of art & newsprint comics from the early 20th century & a knowledge of traditional drawing and printing techniques inform his graphic approach.
Visit his website to read previous comics he has written:
‘My storytelling is intentionally pared down, to focus on the subtleties of the narrative. I intend, through pacing and rhythm, that Ocular Anecdotes build together as an empathetic portrait of the characters involved.'
'As a graphic designer I am excited about the comics form & especially the possibilities of working to a large format. A well thought out & designed comics page can be a thing of beauty. The large format newsprint page size has also been chosen to reflect the amazing history of this medium & celebrate its early visionary vitality.'
‘Anyone who casts an eye over the abundance of colourful newsprint comics from the early twentieth century will find it hard to miss the effect that a large canvas had upon the pioneering artists of that time. If you are unfamiliar with this period, seek out artists such as George Herriman, Frank King, Otto Soglow, Winsor McCay, Garrett Price, Rea Irvin, Charles Forbell, Cliff Sterrett and many more that led the way.’
'I am keen about stories that people can relate to, and I would hope that my taste in a variety of comics reflect this. Currently, there is an abundance of established & emerging independent artists from all parts of the globe writing relatable but challenging stories. I am enthusiastic to be a part of this ever expanding, mesmeric, visual coup d'état…’
Why should I pledge?
In short, supporting independent creators & promoting diversity of content in comics.
As with independent cinema, comics like these are in competition with production-line stories that often promote a narrow viewpoint and are generally more focused on fast moving action & visual overload rather than their characters.
Your participation is a direct expression of your belief in the power of independent, progressive, creator-owned comics.
- Another great reason to pledge money is the plethora of items that are on offer for specific pledge amounts, such as:
- Risograph Prints
- Risograph Books
- Giclée Prints
- Original Art
- Bespoke Comic Designs
- Printing: £1000
- Rewards: £200
- Shipping Costs and Supplies: £150
- ISBN / Amazon / Kickstarter Fees: £150
Total: £1500 *(-£500 donated at comic fairs)*
*Over the past year, comics fairs have been vital in introducing people to Otto Press. We made the the decision to give Ocular Anecdotes No.1 away for free at these fairs, with an optional donation towards the printing of this second issue. If you were one of the vast majority who took a copy for free, I understand it was a stretch to give a donation before you have decided if you even like the work, but with hindsight if you did enjoy No.1 then please get involved and make no. 2 a reality. There were of course people who did choose to contribute & as a result, this kickstarter total is only for the remaining £1000.
Should this project exceed its target, every extra penny will be directly invested into publishing Otto Press books by other innovative comics artists for you to enjoy in the future.
Although it is far more preferable if you are able use the usual Kickstarter payment above, we understand some might only pledge if it is as simple as possible. To this end, there is a Paypal option available on Peter’s site. We'll add the Paypal pledges to the total. If we don't make the funding goal we'll refund them immediately.
In addition to becoming a backer, another substantial way to help is tell each and everyone you know with an interest in innovative comics and graphic art about Ocular Anecdotes No.2
Your recommendation is essential to the success of this project, so if you are aware of specific independent press, focused on emerging talent in comics & illustration, please don't hesitate to inform them of this campaign.
The audience is the most crucial part of any Kickstarter project, so please tell your friends. Word of mouth will promote Peter's artwork better than any advertising executive. Everyone gets excited when friends share great things they have discovered.
We recommend using the hashtag #OcularAnecdotes2

Please Don’t Delay
Remember that this project only lasts for 30 days, so please do not delay. If we don't reach the target amount, you won't be charged a thing, but nobody will be smiling, as you also won't receive your copy of Ocular Anecdotes.

Risks and challenges
The greatest obstacle could be the project being unable to reach its audience.
Although Peter Cline is an experienced graphic designer, capable of delivering the artwork on time, only having the first Ocular Anecdotes to his name, he is relatively unknown to many in the comics world.
By sharing this campaign and his artwork online you can be the vital link to getting this publication realised.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
