Jabberwocky - a 1-7 player collection of games for all ages! (Canceled)
A gorgeous set of games for families and couples, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic poem. The sequel to The Lady and the Tiger.
Jabberwocky is a collection of 5 games, featuring gorgeous art and simple, easy-to-learn rules. Each game is a totally different experience.
“I was blown away by Jabberwocky - five different games, and they were all so unique!”
“Very strategic, quite thinky, well designed - really impressive!”
"Great art and a lot of game in a small box." - What's Eric Playing
"Elegantly simple, but provides relatively high player interaction and challenge." - Meeple Street
"Several interesting games for the price of one." - Beyond Solitaire
"A small box filled with innovative ideas and interesting puzzly games, wrapped in beautiful and charming artwork." - The Game Shelf
Jabberwocky contains five completely different games in just eighteen cards:
The rules and cards for all five games are available for download, and we have a how-to-play video for each of the variants:
In Bandersnatch, the player is trying to reach a score of at least 10. Gems of different colors are either scored when they’re broiled - moved onto the scoring cards - or left on the field when the game ends.
Each turn, you’ll swap a card on the field with one from your hand. If you swap for a higher number, you’ll add gems to the field. If you swap for a lower number, you’ll remove gems from the game. When a card is surrounded by gem-covered cards, remove it from the map: all its gems are broiled.
The game is a unique puzzle, with players making strategic choices to control the speed of the game and the number of gems on the field. Will you flood the field with gems, ending the game quickly (and earning points from all the purple gems remaining)? Or will you slowly, strategically broil as many green gems as you can?
Borogoves can be played as an asymmetrical game for 2 players, or a strategic puzzle for 1 player. In a 2-player game, one player takes on the role of the Cartographer, while the other plays as the curious Borogoves.
Each turn, the Cartographer adds a card to the map. Then, the Borogoves take three actions - one for each of the three Borogove tribes. Borogoves can migrate, moving gems onto the map, explore, moving gems from card to card, or settle, removing a gem from the game.
Once all cards have been played, the Cartographer scores, earning points for each card without any gems of that card’s color, plus one point for each card which doesn't have the correct number of gems on it. In a 2-player game, players switch and play again. In a solo game, a score of 42 or more results in victory!
This game won the 2018 Jellybean Games Design Contest - it’s a deeply tactical, asymmetrical game that will have you discovering new strategies each time you play, while being simple enough to play with children or new gamers!
Gyre is an area control game for 2-3 players. Move your way around a grid, inhaling and exhaling gems, racing to be the first to flip all of your cards face-down.
Each turn, move around the grid in either direction (though never past an opponent), then either inhale, moving gems of your color towards you, exhale, moving gems from your card onto the grid, fly, moving your card to any available space, or resolve conflicts, returning gems to player’s cards if a single color has dominance.
As soon as one of your cards has gems of your color equal to or greater than its number, and no other gems, flip it over! The first player to flip all of their number cards face-down is the winner.
Mimsy is a mancala game for 2-3 players. Be the first to achieve your secret goal - getting 5 gems (of any color) onto the Jabberwocky card of your color.
Each turn, pick up all the gems from any number card, and place them clockwise, one at a time, onto the following cards. If the last gem you place matches the color of any other gems on that color, pick them up and take another turn!
At the end of any turn where your secret goal card has 5 gems on it, you win! Mimsy is a quick, light, surprisingly sneaky take on the classic mancala mechanic.
Slithy is a negotiation game for 3-7 players. Players take turns as the dealer, playing cards and trying to force everyone else to bust. The other players blind bid gems, trying to get the edge on each other without busting as a group.
Each turn, the dealer plays one card face-up and one card face-down. Everyone else chooses a number of gems, and holds them out in a fist. The gems and the face-down card are revealed at the same time: if the total number of gems played matches or exceeds the sum of the two cards, players bust! If they don’t, each player scores the gems they played.
With teams shifting each round and players alternating roles, this game shines at all player counts!
By backing the campaign, you’ll get a digital download of a Jabberlady, a bonus game by Cardboard Edison (the designers of Cobras) - a game combining the components from Jabberwocky with the components from The Lady and the Tiger!
This new hybrid game will NOT be available at retail! The only way to play it is by backing Jabberwocky on Kickstarter, or buying it directly from us at conventions.
With your help, we can make Jabberwocky better - bigger, prettier, with more games and unique art on every card!
At $10k, Jabberwocky is funded! It is going to be a real collection of 5 games that you can touch with your hands and your mouth and have fun with!
When we reach $15k, we're going to upgrade the card quality! Thicker, more durable cards, with a linen-finish for ease of play.
At $20k, we're going to add a sixth variant to the box - Brillig, by Peter C. Hayward (designer of Scuttle!, Dracula's Feast, Village Pillage, and one of the designers from The Lady and the Tiger)
More stretch goals to follow...
As well as the full version of Jabberwocky, we’re offering a travel edition! The whole game, condensed to the smallest possible version. You can get a travel edition of the game by adding $5 to your order. Anyone who pledges at the LADY JABBERWOCKY level and above will get a copy for free!
To add $23 to your pledge, select “edit pledge”. After the campaign, using the pledge manager, you’ll be able to add a copy of Jabberwocky, The Lady and the Tiger, Scuttle!, Village Pillage, or Hidden Panda for each $23 added this way.
All add-ons include free international shipping!
Gorgeous art costs money, and playtesting so many different rulesets takes a whole lot of time and effort! We’ve put everything we can into getting Jabberwocky to this stage, and we need your help to print it and get it out into the world.
By supporting us on Kickstarter, you can help us create this fun set of games, you’ll get the game before anyone else, and you’ll get a free bonus game, not available through retail!
