The Shakespeare Project is a collective of professional actors and creatives who are bringing quality Shakespeare productions to the South East. We will be based at the beautiful Salomons Estate in Royal Tunbridge Wells, making fantastic use of their Victorian Theatre space. Using an ensemble of experienced classical actors, our aim is to bring Shakespeare’s plays to life, with superb storytelling being at the very heart of what we do.
The Shakespeare Project was founded in 2019 by Artistic Director Peter Basham and Executive Producer Laurence Taylor. We are very excited to announce that our inaugural production will be Macbeth directed by Joseph Pitcher (RSC Associate Director) and it will be opening, somewhat appropriately, on the 5th of November 2019, running until the 24th November.
All of us at the Shakespeare Project are passionate about the works of Shakespeare and their relevance today. We believe that it is culturally vital that Shakespeare remains on the syllabus in schools and are pleased to partner with education providers Access Shakespeare who will be providing in-school workshops to accompany our productions.
Risks and challenges
Unlike a lot of the bigger theatre companies, The Shakespeare Project does not yet have a subsidy from the Arts Council and, as such, will be heavily dependant on Box Office sales. The Kickstarter campaign is essential to help us to pay for the venue hire and various marketing costs prior to the show going up!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
