PetAura produces Lightweight, Comfortable, Easy-to-Use, Safe & Smart products for your pets.
The Petaura Smart-Pet harnesses are available in 2 types:
1. Under the Leg option Smart-Pet Harness
2. Over the Head option Smart-Pet Harness
We make them in S, M, L, XL sizes & 6 colors:

- Lightweight: The fabric, technologies, and design of your PetAura, are selected to offer the most out of the least.
- Comfort: We felt that many big businesses make very low quality pet products without giving enough thought or care into the comfort of our pet family. We decided that if we're required to use collars, then we're going to make sure it doesn't feel like a collar!
- Easy-to-Use: Snaps on, Clicks on. It's water resistant and washable.. and it just simply works! 3 modes of LED lights (Wink, Stobe, or Constant On). The NFC tag can be slipped in or out of the collar, but only after removing the Battery Pack - thus eliminating any risk of the tag falling out by itself.
- Safe: The statistics on traffic-related accidents are not encouraging, so we integrated our collars with LED light technology & reflective stitching - this offers the premium package for road safety for you and your pet. We have also carefully chosen materials for the collar strap and we vouch that it's toxic free and also promotes our eco-values!
1. Material s
The materials that we chose were dependent on 6 important methods of selection:
- Non-Toxic Classification (for fabrics, dyes, and plastics)
- Translucency (no exposed optic fibers, the light shines through)
- Colors & Patterns
We selected the highest light reflective thread for stitching. It's made from Polyester Staple Fibers (and of course adheres to our non-toxic selective process: ISO9001) but if you shine a light at it, it will shine back - and brightly! Also it's durably sewn with double stitching, don't expect it to tear with wear.
3. Fabric Treatments
We have treated the inlay of the collar with an antistatic coating and the entire collar with a water resistant finish. The LED pack and NFC tag both are easily removed prior to any hand washing.
4. LED Light technology
LED technology itself is of course a fast growing trend because it uses very little energy and produces a powerful and small beam of light, however it needs an optical fiber to spread the light evenly and brightly across the entire strap. The products that were found on the market did not supply an even light, and in many cases also tore with wear.
We overcame this by rebuilding a better, and longer lasting & rechargeable battery pack. It last around 80hours on a full charge and has the classic 3 light modes - WINK, STROBE, and CONSTANT ON. We also put the optic fiber through damage testing, and with 1,000 bends and pulls, it's still intact.
5. Near Field Communication tag (NFC)
NFC tags are programmed with just about any sort of information letting you read them with a smartphone or another NFC-capable device, such as pet doors which unlock automatically when the collar is near. We have integrated this to serve any purpose you may want, including but not restricted to:
- Contact Information if lost and/or any medical data you may wish to include (if she/he happens to be hurt without your supervision);
- SmartHome Automation systems (presence detection, or other);
- Data Storage/Retrieval;
- Pet-Food Shopping (bitcoins/google wallets);
The tag is sealed within a small, lightweight & waterproof plastic casing. The Stainless Steel name tag can be used to print a QR code (containing less private information), Pet's name, etc., or as an insulator to prevent the NFC technology from being read involuntarily.
All of you will receive an NFC enabled device tag within the collar, however, the custom laser engraved version of the name tag, yes...with your very own pet's name and other information you may want, will only be available as a stretch goal for all pledge levels - IF our backer community chooses this!
When we first came up with the idea of integrating safety LED lights and other technologies into a pet collar, we began 'opening up' other products. The first thing that struck us was how poorly made they were. Quality & Comfort were completely ignored. Even the small details, were a big deal in our opinion.
So we decided to focus specifically on making the technology top-of-the-line, powerful, and super safe.
In addition, we decided to use orange diodes for orange collars, blue diodes for blue collars, and so forth for each of our available colors. This way enhancing true color luminosity and not just a white glow.
We purchased a ton of different NFC tags, but Allen found them lacking in range, or not readable at all. That's why we chose this one:
NFC technology (NTAG203) is the most common but more expensive NFC readable/writable tag out there. The Black epoxy tag featured above is what we have chosen to use in the end. It's totally sealed & waterproof.

Late delivery is not an option in our book. You have pledged to help us get this far - so in turn we pledge to return the courtesy of shipping our Petaura collors to you on schedule! No delay.
Most products are being outsourced to China now, but with no regard to Quality Control. We need your support to make sure we get back into producing beautiful products with particular attention to design. You cannot outsource love and we have put our heart into this and hope you can give us a little as well to get us started.
If we can all succeed in raising the funding, that will put us on the market and help us make various collections, including law enforcement versions, backcountry avalanche versions (with Recco-Reflective-type tags), and more particular collars with a fashionable touch & patterns. It will let us know that there are indeed people who actually care about their pets & who don't overlook the smaller details.
We all come from different backgrounds:
Allen Smits specializes in Electronic Engineering and has been working on various smart products in the past. He is presenting working on PETAURA and seeks to eliminate the magnetic dispersion/interference of metals touching NFC.
Kelsey Dekker has a love for animals. Together with Allen, she came up with Petaura. Using her skills in art & design, she brings everything else to the table except the technological processes. A couple months ago, her sister Kristen Dekker has come on board to continue to help with more designs - and we all hope the next generation product we make will also be for our cats!
Zhou Li (Julie) is in charge of finances and accounting. As we will all be working hard to produce the products, Julie will be in charge of all the "behind-the-scenes" paperwork and company structure.
Many months have been put into the product and it's almost finished! The NFC tags & Battery Packs (molds) need to be made and it's been out-of-pocket so far, which is why at this final stage we're asking you to make this possible.

Risks and challenges
As for the manufacturing, we currently have a 3D-printed working prototype and real prototypes for test, however, as the design evolves for mass manufacturing, it is expensive to open a new product line. Since we have been cooperating with a supplier who has been producing straps for many years, we can be sure of the factory's quality and short delivery period. We promise to have delivered all of the straps by end of JUNE 2014 as long as the funds are ready, however, we hope to chance sooner delivery if we can reach our goal earlier.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
