***NOTE: EVEN THOUGH I'VE REACHED THE GOAL, THERE ARE STILL BITS AVAILABLE TO BE HAD! YOU CAN STILL PLEDGE AND BE PART OF THE PROJECT!***
you pledge ten dollars. for every ten dollars, you give me a word or phrase. that word or phrase gets turned into a 5"x5" painting, which you will receive.
don't worry about submitting words right now. there will be a form sent out if the project is successful so you can get your words to me.
only rule... nothing particularly religious or political, cuz that's not my bag. nothing particularly vulgar, either. not because that isn't my bag... but i'm trying to keep this somewhat kid friendly :)
this will be done over 1000 times.
more in depth:
there's this big art competition in the city i live called artprize. it's near impossible for small works (which i do) to gain any notice in this competition.
so, i had this idea to make over 1000 thematically tied paintings. now, this presented a problem for me. how to i come up with 1000 different ideas without killing my brain? well... i figured i'd ask other people for ideas... and this project was born!
and since artprize is a competition judged by the public, who better than the public to give me the content for my piece?
these paintings will be collected into a large display for artprize, which takes place in september. the paintings will be sent to their owners after the competition.
all the paintings will also be collected into a book which will span 4 volumes. that's what the money is for.
your name will be included in the book's appendix, referenced to the painting you titled.
so, why the 1024 number?
well, my original plan was to do 1000 paintings. when deciding how to display them, i figured the most efficient would be in a big grid. the closest to 1000 you can get with that is a 32 x 32 grid, yielding 1024 pieces.
that's since changed, breaking the entire display into four parts, looking a little something like this: 1024 is also a really geeky number as well. :)
i will start work on the paintings as soon as pledges start coming in, and will update the project blog with the progress.
