About this project

As an organization dedicated to art and culture in a country like Mexico, where the production and dissemination of critical thinking are controlled by a centralized system, we have identified the need to foster a cultural ecosystem capable of acting from Tijuana, a city in a region characterized by a propositive artistic production.

To this aim, Periférica creates the educational program Monitoreo, which includes the Diploma in Contemporary Art Criticism and Dissemination, for working as a strategy of consolidation of critical networks and communities around culture, promoting the production of critical thinking as a vehicle for social development.

Phase 1 of this program was carried out in 2017, a series of workshops to approach art criticism, where students had different profiles.

 Why is this important?

Art generates innovative thought patterns, which can be transferred to other areas of society, enabling the creation of strategies and actions capable of influencing our community reality.

Monitoreo, as an educational program aimed at thinking about art, intervenes in the social fabric through the propagation of such critical thinking schemes that culture develops.

 About Periférica

Periférica began in 2014 as a group of art and culture professionals concerned about the future of its field of action. Convinced of the potential of the northern region of Mexico, have directed their efforts to design programs that deal with memory, professionalization, and dissemination of the artistic production of Tijuana and its surroundings.

In 2016, Periférica became a non-profit organization, a figure that has enabled the implementation of proposals of greater impact, in partnership with government entities, the private sector, and civil society.
