Lavender's Eggs is a children's picture book written by Susanne Payne and illustrated by Penny Royal.
Lavender is a small hen, whose high ideas, cause Nanny considerable inconvenience.
Lavender is an independent bantam hen who lived on a sheep farm in Paturau, Golden Bay, NZ with Susanne Payne (Nanny). Susanne has written a true story about one of her adventures that Penny Royal has illustrated and turned into a children's book.
This is the first book Susanne has written, but she has been entertaining friends and family with her adventures she shares on Facebook for quite some time.
This is also the first book that Penny has illustrated and designed, and has been completed as part of her studies towards a Bachelor of Arts and Media at NMIT.
We are creating a children's picture book. It will be a 20cm x 25cm, 32 pages, perfect bound, full colour, soft cover book.
The illustrations have all been done with watercolour and ink and then digitally touched up.
Susanne has finished writing the story and it has been proofread and edited. Penny has finished all the illustrations and is now finalising the book layout (this will be finished by the end of the campaign, so the book will be ready to be sent to the printer).
Penny is self publishing the book in Nelson, New Zealand.
We are crowdfunding to raise funds for the initial print run which will be printed in Australia at Blurb.com.

The goal for the campaign has been carefully worked out to cover the printing costs for the initial print run, including shipping and import taxes to get the books delivered to us in New Zealand.
We have also included in the budget all the postage/shipping costs for sending out all the rewards, as well as any costs for creating the rewards.
We have also incorporated a contingency into the budget to allow for any unexpected costs that may come up, so if we reach our funding goal then there is no reason that we can't complete our project.
Risks and challenges
I am completing this project as part of my Bachelor of Arts and Media degree at NMIT, so I have access to the expertise of my tutors as well as the resources of the polytechnic at my disposal. This in itself mitigates a large amount of the risk involved in this project, as I have lots of help to avoid any pitfalls, and solve any problems that may arise.
I have been generous in my estimation of the time it will take to send out the rewards, as I have allowed for Christmas and any holdups with receiving the books from the printers in Australia, so if anything I hope to actually send out the rewards before the estimated time.
The story has been written and proofread and the illustrations are all done.
The book layout is done and will be ready to go to the printers as soon as the campaign ends, so there isn't any risk that we won't get it finished.
We have carefully worked out the budget for this project and made generous allowance for contingency, so if we hit our fundraising goal, we can complete the initial print run.
I have good project management skills and access to help and advice should I need it.
We are super excited and motivated for this project, we got this!!
