About this project

30 Dec: For three entrepreneurs, fashion success starts at the toes (wapo.com)

The campaign is over, but we are just beginning. Visit www.PenanceHall.com to pre-order more socks, or sign up for our mailing list. Want to know about future product launches? Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Thanks for making Penance Hall one of the most successful Fashion projects in Kickstarter history. Though the Kickstarter campaign has come to an end, our brand is just beginning. We created Penance Hall to re-forge classic American style from the ground, or toes, up, by focusing on the values that imbue that style with meaning: hard work, and a completely American supply chain. Every time we wear one of our products we hold our head a little higher, and walk with that extra bit of confidence that comes with the pride of ownership, and the knowledge that behind our American aesthetic are American jobs and American fabrics. We hope you'll join us.

PENANCE HALL socks are the first sustainable, luxury sock project pitched on Kickstarter.

  • Bold, vibrant colors that make a statement.
  • American Made from the bottom up.
  • Incredibly soft sustainably produced American merino wool.
  • A unique design guaranteed to never fall down around your ankles.

Most socks are made overseas and sold for a huge markup.

Many large brands wave the American flag while quietly producing abroad, pocketing the profits from producing "luxury" items for pennies.

Instead of competing on price, we compete on craftsmanship and a core value they will never have: the knowledge that Penance Hall products are, and will forever be, completely made in America.

These are PENANCE HALL socks.

This is why they are the best socks you have ever worn:

The World's Softest Wool. Our rare, ultra-thin fine merino wool lasts 400% longer than cotton but feels just as soft.  The big brands use wide cotton thread that makes their socks rough and itchy.  Our weave is breathable, wicks away moisture, and is guaranteed to stay fresh and dry all day – or your money back.

Bold Colors. Our unique dye formula makes Penance Hall socks unusually vibrant.  The big brands mass produce socks with dull, uninspired colors.  Each of our eight designs will complete your outfit with a splash of bold, sophisticated color.

The Perfect Fit  Guaranteed. We were tired of seeing our socks bunched up around our ankles throughout the day.  Penance Hall socks comfortably hug your calves and will never fall down.  In fact, if they ever do, you can send them back to us for a full refund.

100% American Made. We spent a year searching for the softest wool in the world, and we found it right here in the USA.  We use wool from South Carolina, dyed and woven in North Carolina by expert American craftsmen. You can rest assured that your apparel is not the product of child labor or sweatshops.  And because we produce domestically, we minimize our carbon footprint -- unlike the big brands, which ship their socks from mills halfway across the world.  Penance Hall supports American jobs, and our entire supply chain is consistent with the values you care about.

We started Penance Hall to revive the tradition of quality, classically styled apparel made right here in America.  Our logo is a promise: our product is made from the best materials, crafted to the highest standards, and comes completely from the USA.

The Penance Hall personal shopping experience with Bruce Boyer, former editor of GQ and Esquire, and John Tinseth, famed blogger, "The Trad" (thetrad.blogspot.com). Join Bruce, John, and the Penance Hall Team for lunch at the Four Seasons, and the rest of the day exploring New York's legendary menswear scene. We will start with a study of the drape at Alan Flusser's shop and move to the closest thing Manhattan has to a Savile Row tailor, Leonard Logsdail. Then, on to Brooks Brothers for a personal visit with the dapper, erudite, 46-year veteran of the Golden Fleece, Tom Davis. Just a few blocks away we will see how Paul Stuart's bespoke department, headed by Mark Rykken, tweaks the Ivy look as America's preeminent maker of sophisticated menswear. The day ends with cocktails at the King Cole Bar and the best nut dish in North America. We will throw in ten pairs of Penance Hall socks with your personal monogram, memberships in the Alumni Association for you and five of your best-dressed friends, and a few other special treats picked out along the way. Finally, you will receive a VIP invitation to our launch party for you and one guest.
