About this project
Hello and welcome to the latest project by Pegasus Watches Venezia. We aim to redefine the vintage watch concept. The brand creates high-end unique and unrepeatable timepieces, classic and elegant pieces of history for the present and the future never made obsolete by new technology. In fact, this watch was designed to be an heirloom to be passed down to the next generation.
FIRST AGED ITALY TIMEPIECES
We are launching the first "Aged in Italy" watch, 100% handcrafted by skilled artisans with absolute accuracy for every detail according to the traditional features of the twentieth century. We aim to manufacture brand new watches that look aged from the dial details to the packaging. The aging process requires great skill and is made possible by the experience of the best Italian craftsmen. Our mission is to revolutionize the market for vintage watches by offering a completely new product, more reliable and affordable than old watches. Sounds interesting? So keep reading
We cooperate with some of the most experienced watch manufacturers, who have produced luxury watches for notorious brands. With their support we have achieved an extremely high quality product.
The assembly process, for instance, is done by expert technicians in a dust free environment.
At the end of the assembly process the cases are transferred to the quality control department. Only the watches that meet the specifications can pass this stage since no mistake is tolerated.
- CASE: 316L stainless steel, Ø42mm
- MOVEMENT: Automatic 9015 Miyota (Citizen) made in Japan
- GLASS: Domed sapphire glass
- WATER RESISTANT: 20ATM (200 meters)
- LUME: Swiss Superluminova®
- BEZEL: Unidirectional rotatable 120-minute graduated bezel
- STRAP: Handcrafted Italian Leather
Pegasus Venezia Mercurio & Nettuno is made of 316L stainless steel, offering high resistance and reliability. 316L Stainless Steel Marine grade stainless, or SAE 316 stainless steel, is a molybdenum-alloyed steel and the steel commonly used in marine environments because of its greater resistance to pitting corrosion if compared with other grades of steel.
Sapphire glass is created by crystallizing corundum, or aluminum oxide, at temperatures of 4000° F and then by molding the mixture into clear disks. These disks are then machined to the proper crystal size, polished, and perfectly fit to the watch case.
In fact, it has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale that ranges from 1 to 10, and is surpassed in hardness only by diamond. The major advantages of sapphire and the drawbacks of mineral crystals are summed up in the table above.
Together, Nemoto & Co. Ltd. and RC TRITEC Ltd. set up a joint venture which is the licensed manufacturer and exclusive distributors for Swiss Super-LumiNova® photoluminescent pigments. We applied pigments C1 or C3 (for cream dial only) to every single watch.
The Calibre 9015 used in the Nettuno and Mercurio watches is an accurate high-spec, Japan-made automatic movement (42-hour power reserve).
The movement has been compared to the ETA2824 used by many Swiss luxury brands.
Stones or jewels were developed in watches to reduce friction at the points of heaviest wear so that a watch can function for longer periods. To combat metal-on-metal wear watchmakers needed to find a substance that was harder than metal and so began the use of jewels within watches. Rubies are used because they have a hardness on the mohs scale similar to diamonds.
Leather processing is an ancient procedure dating back to prehistoric times when leather was used for human protection from weathering. The tanning process consists of several stages:
Preservation: after being flayed, leather is treated with salt and then dried so that as much water as possible is eliminated in order to protect it from the attack of bacteria and microorganisms.
Preparation to tanning through rehydratation: that is the reacquisition of the water lost in the previous stage; liming and further finishing operations.
Tanning: chemical process that prevents water from putrefying by placing it in wooden barrels that turn around.
Post Tanning: used for improving the appearance of leather
All the types of leather used are from Veneto and Tuscany, two well known Italian tannery districts. Therefore, thanks to the expertise of our local and skilled artisans we provide soft, vintage and durable straps.
The hides we use are tanned according to traditional, natural methods, without colourings, chrome, formaldehyde and pentachlorophenol and they are processed in compliance with current laws.
WHICH DESIGNS CAN I CHOOSE?
All combinations are possible, here is a reference chart. All backers will be free to choose the designs by filling a survey that will be sent out once our project ends.
Pegasus Venezia wooden boxes and packaging have a unique flavor that goes beyond standard shapes and manufacturing solutions. Our design, in fact, is inspired by tradition.
For the production of our boxes we rely on a craft company that was established in the heart of the "Chair District" in Friuli, a region where woodworking is not only part of local history and culture but also represents an international trademark associated with the excellence of “Made in Italy” products. With over 40 years of woodworking experience they have become partner of many leading wine and spirit producers, combining of craftsmanship, technology and special attention to design.
What are the advantages associated with silicone straps? There are several reasons to wear them. As a matter of facts, silicone is a light weight, non-absorbent, rubber-like material. It doesn’t matter if you get your watch wet since silicone doesn’t absorb liquid, you’ll have no issues wiping it right off.
This material has amazing properties thanks to a particular process called vulcanization that makes the rubber strong, resistant but also elastic. That’s why we offer both leather and silicone straps. We want you to wear your Pegasus Nettuno and Mercurio on every occasion.
The traditional distribution channel is based on different steps, involving extra costs for the final customer. We do things in a different way: we cut this chain. Our prices derive just from the fine components we use for our watches.
Our customers only pay for the quality of the watch and not for all the costs related to distribution such as agent fees and traditional retail markups. The chart below provides an insight into our costs.
We have already produced and approved working prototypes of the Mercurio and Nettuno and we are ready to go ahead with production.
As soon as we place the order with our suppliers, they will start manufacturing and assembling the timepieces. The final product will then be shipped to us for final inspection and testing. After the end of the campaign, we will provide constant updates on the status of production. We will ship all watches by the end of April 2017.
With your support we are sure we can grow further and further.
The movement: When do I need to change the battery?
NEVER! The watch has a mechanical movement that is powered by you.
The movement: Why did you decide on Japanese movements for the Pegasus Nettuno and Mercurio collection?
Well, the Japanese movements are just as reliable as any ETA movement - if not even more reliable! If we did use an ETA movement the watch would have almost doubled the final cost of the product.
How can I add something to my pledge?
If you find yourself wishing you would have gotten 2 or more watches its very easy to add a watch to your order. All you will need to do is “edit your pledge.” This option will allow you to select the pledge you prefer. Remember that you will choose your watches at the end of the campaign when a survey will be sent.
When will my card be charged?
If you’re new to Kickstarter this might be confusing to you but here on KS all cards will be charged as soon as the campaign has been officially funded and the time has ran out on the campaign. You should see a charge on your account 3-5 days after the campaign ends
How long will my watch be warranted?
We will work with all customers case by case but all watch movements will be insured for up to a year after the campaign ends. We cannot warrant customers who break their watches due to wear and tear.
Do all backers benefit from Stretch Goals?
Absolutely. It doesn't matter if you were the first or the last to back our project, all backers qualify for the stretch goals.
When can I select the watch of choice?
We will be sending out our official survey once our project ends. You will then be able to select your watch and give us your correct shipping instructions.
Who do you use for shipping international orders?
We use DHL Express for all international and domestic shipments (excluding PO Box addresses).
What parts of the watch are actually luminescent?
The indexes and hour and minute hands.
Risks and challenges
The Nettuno and Mercurio will be not only the second timepiece we have produced but also the second crowd-funding project that we have launched. As it is possible to see from our previous Kickstarter campaign, we have successfully delivered every single watch well in advance. We have received a very positive feedback from our backers.
Issues can always happen, however we can assure you that you will have a wonderful and solid customer experience with us.
