The book pentalogy „The Dwarves" is author Markus Heitz‘ fantasy masterpiece – an epic tale of Dwarves and their fight to save their homeland Girdlegard.
The Dwarves: The Board Game is a game based on these books. Here you can accompany the books‘ eponymous Dwarves Tungdil - the stories' hero (pictured above) and his friends Balyndis, Boëndal, Boïndil and Bavragor on their fight for Girdlegard. The Dwarves: The Board Game is a multiple-award-winning masterpiece. But you don’t have to take our word for it! It has won or was nominated for these awards:
IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE WORLD
The Dwarves: The Board Game draws its story from the rich lore of the most successful German fantasy books. The books of The Dwarves are already available as an international bestseller in the English language – published by Orbit Publishing. But the world of The Dwarves is richer than just the sum of its Pentalogy. There are also a host of Audiobooks of all book releases (albeit only in German so far) and a high-quality comic series, about to release its Volume 2 in October 2015 and therefore continuing the series through other mediums. We, as Pegasus Spiele, have introduced so called ABooks to the world of The Dwarves (Adventure-Books or GameBooks), interactive digital sidestory Apps, that extend the series for a whole new audience.
Though you can enjoy a great backstory if you have read the books - you do not need to know these books to enjoy the game! It is that good on its own!
The Dwarves: The Board Game is not a complicated game! This is a cooperative game for the whole family! Each player can, for only 60 to 90 minutes, slip into the boots of one of Markus Heitz’ Dwarves. Each player will receive a character board, granting him a unique power and a set of attributes: Battle, Craft and Speed.
Each player will also get a miniature with which he can make his way around the detailed map of Girdlegard!
With these Dwarves, the players work together to keep evil from flooding Girdlegard. There is a number of these forces of evil that the players will have to fight- Orcs, Trolls, and the Älfar.
They all work to further the spread of the so called Perished Land.
To achieve their goal the players will have to complete a number of main quests in the form of Scenario cards before the forces of evil take over Girdlegard.
As if that was not enough, there are also side quests to complete: the Adventures. These will help the players in numerous ways!
This help is needed urgently, as well! Turn after turn the Älfar, Trolls and Orcs are invading Girdlegard. The Recruitment dice will be rolled and according to their result a number of forces will invade through the Gateways. The troops, if left undefeated, will bring with them a terrible Blight. Once 5 troops fill up a map space this space will turn into the Perished Land. Twisted by demonic magic even the water in this land turns black. The troops then scatter around this land and try to desolate even more of Girdlegard.
But beware – the forces of evil on the map are not the only enemies that will try to hinder your success – you will also have to fend off threats that endanger the very core of your mission:

Our project actually consists of TWO games! One is The Dwarves: The Board Game and its already available German language expansion and companion games – yet now available to you in the English language for the first time ever. You don’t even have to worry if the Base game will be available to you after this Kickstarter ends through regular retail channels – it will be available at retail later on!
For years now the English community has asked us to make this great board game available in the US. Finally this chance has arrived!

What we want to create with your help is called the Saga Expansion. This is the fully amped up expansion for The Dwarves: The Board Game. It will enhance your gameplay experience in exciting new ways:
With luxurious game components and highly detailed new and old miniatures, we can upgrade your game experience to a level only possible via Kickstarter!
And no expansion would be complete without a completely new set of adventures and quests for our Dwarves to go on – with the help of a new character, no less!
Additionally we have improved the map - it is bigger and better than ever before. A new sideboard helps organize the Scenario and Adventure cards and also holds the Dwarven Council.
Last but not least you will also get 2 new punchboards, they hold new Perished Land tiles as well as additional tokens that have not been available anywhere else!
With your help we can make this Saga-Expansion an unforgettable game play experience not previously possible.
At the same time we can offer the same new edition to the German audience - they can extend their Die Zwerge: Das Brettspiel, too:
In this Kickstarter you will be able to get The Dwarves: The Board Game and the Saga Expansion, in English or in German – and if you opt for the Bundle, at a considerably lower price than what you would pay at retail later on! The Saga Expansion alone, however, in its Kickstarter form will be unique and you will not be able to buy it like this in retail later on.

We will not reveal EVERYTHING right now – there has to be some mystery, right? And there are some pretty exciting Stretch Goal upgrades you can get! But all in good time ...
Pledge Tiers are pretty simple for the project. You can get more copies of the games or buy one of the Bundles and we even have a version of the Bundle in a custom made wooden box!
The games are not multi-lingual. But you don't have to worry about that now. Simply choose your Pledge Level and you are good to go.
After the campaign concludes and we unlock the Pledge Manager, you will be able to choose which language version of the game you would like to receive.
Fulfill these side quests to unlock the loot! Since the heart of this Kickstarter is The Saga Expansion the stretch goals only apply to the Saga Expansion. If you get the Saga Expansion on its own, or pledge to a Bundle that includes the Expansion you will be eligible to all the Stretch Goals that unlock:

- Be a true Dwarf! No Dwarf would be complete without an authentic Beer Stein! You can get two types of Steins. One Beer Stein will feature the Dwarven bust the other one will feature the Forces of Evil bust. You can add the Beer Steins separately or get both of them together. Show your allegiance and drink like a Dwarf!
- With "Combined Might" / "Mit vereinten Kräften" we offer the first official mini-expansion of the game. It also includes the Älfar Expansion / Die Albae Erweiterung which is a harder difficulty level than what the game currently offers. Be prepared to give your best if you want to survive! Combined Might / Mit vereinten Kräften gives you new scenario cards that also add a new twist to the core gameplay. Includes 29 cards for Combined Might and 9 cards of the Älfar expansion.
Wear what you play! You can get two types of t-shirts. One t-shirt will feature the Dwarven bust the other one will feature the Forces of Evil bust. You can add the t-shirts separately or get both of them together. The t-shirts come with the OEKO-TEX® label, which indicates the additional benefits of tested safety for skin-friendly clothing.
With "The Dwarves: The Duel" / "Die Zwerge: Das Duell" you will get a new game set in the world of The Dwarves. In this quick and easy and family-friendly 2-player card game you can play as either the Dwarves or the Forces of Evil to finally triumph over your foes! It also includes a new set of Scenario cards that offer a new gameplay mechanic for "The Dwarves: The Board Game" / "Die Zwerge: Das Brettspiel". Includes 2 decks of 35 cards each, 3 Joker cards, 6 custom dice, 1 rulebook. The expansion features: 23 cards for The Dwarves: The Board Game
